Some mixed messages here, their CEO seems to be pretty clear they will feature in some extent. However, this post seems focussed on CP2077 being a single player game when there is some form of MP coming, perhaps they're treating them as seperate entities?

But either way, these guys are gold, I'm confident whatever they do it will be fine.

Abriael1745d ago (Edited 1745d ago )

The CEO was asked specifically about microtransactions in the multiplayer game, which is an entirely separate game which we don't even know when it'll come. I actually expect it to be completely free to play with micros.

The issue is that articles on the topic didn't do much effort to specify that (otherwise no one would click), so people are getting confused thinking that the single-player game we're getting this year will have microtransactions.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one game. Cyberpunk online or whatever will be called is a different game. So headlines mentioning that Cyberpunk 2077 won't be aggressive with microtransactions are incorrect, because Cyberpunk 2077 won't have any.

Abriael1744d ago (Edited 1744d ago )

@cornelis: This isn't a game with a single-player mode.

This is a single-player game with the same developer that is going to release a multiplayer game in the same settings who knows when down the line. They're entirely separate games.

So yeah, you're wrong.

GoodGuy091745d ago

I mean you cant just give them a pass right away. There could be any moment a great dev could go bad in an instant. Bungie, bioware, blizzard, bethesda etc have shown this lol. And what were the main reasons why? MTs....
We'll just have to wait and see really.

Fluttershy771744d ago (Edited 1744d ago )

Yes. We'll have to wait and see. But in any case these are not good news. And MTs are becoming more and more an standard practice, and even the good developers are into it... And instead of giving back a strong message at least in forums, CDproject fans are like "it's ok, MT's are horrible but as long as they are not in the Single Player experience..." and that's such a faulty reasoning because when we are talking about Micro-transactions in general for the most part we are talking about Micro-transactions in Multiplayer, that's the standard practice (even COD or GTA doesn't have MT's in Single Player) ; so yeah, are you against Micro-transactions? or just against Micro-transactions in the games that you don't like?

RgR1744d ago

Well...it silly to speculate considering the current track record. Once they do mess up...nobody will give them a pass.

warriorcase1744d ago

A big main reason why for all those listed wash because their publisher and stockholders wanted more money. CD Project are their own self publisher so have much more control over the course of action they take.

Not that it couldn't happen mind you, but I would be surprised if their stockholders and themselves decided out of nowhere to change up the strategy at this point as their current one has netted them major dollars and good will. EA saw a massive surge in money with "Fifa Ultimate Team" series in MTx earnings which pushed them to implement MTx in to damn near everything they can which from a business perspective still pays out so far. Same is applies for Activision who have pretty much sucked the soul out of Blizzard at this point.

"By September 2017, it was the largest publicly traded video game company in Poland, worth about US$2.3 billion, and by May 2020, had reached a valuation of US$8.1 billion, making it the largest video game industry company in Europe ahead of Ubisoft."

As I said, I doubt we'll see a change in what is clearly working for them so far.

got_dam1745d ago

It was said explicitly that the MP component is being treated as a separate project. The main focus of the game will be single player with no microtransactions, and plenty of DLC. Multi-player will contain cosmetic microtransactions with no gameplay advantage. If the witcher 3 is anything to go by, there will plenty of free SP dlc in addition to substantial expansion content sold later on. This company is the single most consumer friendly day publisher/developer/storefront in the AAA space. Only digital platform, that I know, that actually gives you true ownership of the products you buy. I hope it continues on that way.

Stanjara1745d ago

To clarify single player game will have paid dlc story expansions like The Witcher3.
Multiplayer game will have micro transactions probably cosmetics, cars, real estate, mods and such.

Think of it as GTA5.
I only wish that you can do separate download of single and mult parts of the game.

There will be no micro transactions in single player part of the game.

Father__Merrin1745d ago

Will it have MT or not will have to be seen

RazzerRedux1744d ago

lol....so you think the CEO might be lying?

sourOG1744d ago

Don’t believe the fake news. Let them die off like kotaku Uk.

Persian_Immortal1744d ago

No shit most single player games have no MTX we talking thousands in them so I don't see why they are acting all high and mighty including dissing other game companies for being greedy and their stance on how bad MTX are when they are now bending the knee and implementing into their online game sure they promise not to be aggressive but that remains to be seen.

CDPR coming out and saying no microtransactions in their single player is the equivalent of a student flexing he got a 95% in Gym when the class average is 98% and hearing people parroting that as it some ground breaking achievement and damage controlling is absolutely ridiculous.

Z5011744d ago (Edited 1744d ago )

Here's the questions for me.
If mp is separate. Do I need the 2077 disc to play? If so. Then it's NOT separate.
If I DON'T need the disc. Is it free to play? Do I need PS+?
If it's NOT free to play. How much does mp cost? $20? $15?

warriorcase1744d ago

Well it's a separate game so no, you won't need Cyberpunk 2077. As for everything else then just wait till next year or year after and see.

I'm hoping the update fixes their poor FSR 3 implementation, and add FSR 4. FSR 2 looks better than FSR 3 in CP2077 by a wide margin. On my 7900XT I just use XESS if I want to add RT at custom 3K resolutions. Already beat the main game, but half way through Phantom Liberty expansion. I would like to get back to it later on this month.

anast3d ago

I have more hours in this game than any other. I would happily put more into it.

MastaMold2d ago

I second this and a PS5 PRO patch too please.

RhinoGamer882d ago

I finished it and had a blast, wish there was a new game + option.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2: a cutting-edge game translates well to Nintendo's console hybrid

Few games among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up can match Cyberpunk 2077 in putting the system through its paces. It's a staple of our PC benchmarking suite for good reason: the open world design is a solid stressor for any CPU, while its effects-heavy battles challenge GPU resources as well. This Switch 2 release has clearly been a big undertaking for developer CD Projekt Red too, who produced the port in-house with unique optimisations for Switch 2's ARM-based architecture. It's also remarkably the Ultimate Edition of the game, with both the core adventure and the more taxing Phantom Liberty expansion bundled in - an extra portion that proved too demanding to justify a last-gen console release, and was instead restricted to PS5 and Series X/S, and yet here it is running on Switch 2.

To cut to the chase, Switch 2 offers a truly viable way to enjoy Cyberpunk, either in a portable format or docked under a TV. However, CDPR has shot for the stars in its ambition to include Phantom Liberty as well, and it's here that Switch 2 hits some technical limits - with frame-rates struggling as we explore its newer Dog Town region. Still, that aside, there's a lot to admire in the game's engineering for Nintendo's new console overall, and how competitive it is in comparison with other consoles.

I am happy for CDPR. Their hard work paid off because the Switch 2 version are always in the top 5 Switch 2 launch game sales.

jznrpg4d ago

Not much launched with it besides ports so it should be expected I guess.

OMNlPOTENT3d ago

I mean.. what did the PS5 launch with? One exclusive in Demon's Souls?

repsahj3d ago

@Omnipotent
Not just PS5, Series X has zero launch games. XD

DivineHand1254d ago (Edited 4d ago )

This may be one of the weakest launch lineups Nintendo has ever had, with Mario Kart being the only first party game, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely give you tremendous value for your money.

One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre. This will allow you to appreciate the story much better. If you find yourself asking which life path is the best to take at the start of the game, in this case it is Corpo, Streetkid, and Nomad. You likely don't know enough about the genre, and certain things will fly right over your head. While it is not mandatory, the game will be 10 times better if you read or listen to some books first.

Some books I have enjoyed in that genre are:
Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot,
Stray Cat Strut by RavensDagger
Tower of Somnus by Cale Plamann
Mist Runner by Nicholas Searcy

If you can only read or listen to 1 book, then I recommend Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot. It is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077.

anast3d ago

Or play the TTRPG which is was based on.

Profchaos3d ago

I'd say its stronger than the switch as Mario kart has a broader appeal than zelda.

It was also a better launch line-up than the gamecube and possibly wii u

DivineHand1253d ago

@Profchaos the WiiU likely had the worst of the bunch which is partly why the system failed.

The gamecube had smash bros melee that launched 2 months after the initial release and that is one of the best games to release on that console. I assume every gamecube owner would be happy with that game.

The switch had Breath of the Wild which is still considered one of the best games of all time. I remember playing through that game and unlocked every equipment, upgraded every equipment to the max, found all the dragons, defeated all the Lynels and completed all the shrines in that game before defeating Ganon at the end. It was a good time from start to finish and made up for the lack of other launch games.

I just think that if they had us waiting that long for the switch 2, they should have more than just 1 or 2 first party games ready within the launch window. If we had at least gotten a trailer for a new 3D mario I would be extremely happy. With the current switch 2 lineup, there is no draw to go out and get it immediately like a new console launch should make you feel. Right now the main appeal is to provide a quality of life update to play switch 1 games.

OMNlPOTENT3d ago

There is also a book directly related to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, it's called "No Coincidence". I thought it was a pretty good read.

Kornholic3d ago

"One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre."

If somebody gave me this advice before I started my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough, I wouldn't have even bought the game in the first place.

DivineHand1252d ago

True because I wouldn't have played it either. It's just that I read those books after playing the game and thinking back, a lot of the motivations of each character started making more sense.

I just wanted to through that tip out there to recommend someone try to understand the cyberpunk genre more before playing. They will get more out of the game.

badz1494d ago

40 vs 60 fps is not something that I would even consider calling "competitive"

1nsomniac3d ago

Then you don’t know enough about the subject you’re trying to talk about..

badz1493d ago

hahaha...what? are you serious right now? the Switch 2 is not a PC where you can just change the graphical settings to get to 60fps...Unless CDPR released a patch to make it run at 60fps, that is.

As of right now, it's stuck at 40fps at best and that too with DLSS from quite a low base res already. so yeah...it's not competitive.

Profchaos3d ago

100% 40 isn't a arbitrary choice its a strategic choice because it opens up access to supporting technology on the console

Good-Smurf4d ago

DF are Nintendo's occasional bootlickers after that blatant Zelda games ad scandal.
Games like CP2077 are meant to be played on big console or powerful PC on a big screen.
Got to love how they're simp for full price purchase of 5-year-old game and still getting the worst version to play on.

1nsomniac3d ago

Wow you guys don’t let up for a second trying to blame DF for anything you can pick out the sky at any given moment. It’s embarrassing dude.

It’s always DF are bootlickers for Nintendo today, Microsoft yesterday, Sony last week. Make your mind up people… pick a side and stick to it. Sounds so stupid when you’re trying to make a point that some company is biased but that no one can make their mind up who the company is biased towards any given day of the week.

stoney1013d ago

Yep, the amount of hate they get is ridiculous. The funny thing is if you actually look at the comments on their early switch 2 videos people are slating them for not giving it enough praise and constantly comparing it to ps4.

ZycoFox3d ago

They had a "Sponsored by Nintendo" video not long ago, it literally says so at the start.

I trust them for showing frame rate analysis and they're decent for that, but their overall review for Nintendo is overrated, Mario Kart is the same game it has always been.

Really the only one that got close to topping DKR was MKDS.. So it's no wonder it's often ranked as the highest rated Mario Kart.

repsahj3d ago

It's obvious that you're not following DF. In the weeks leading up to the Switch 2's release, didn't you know that DF had so many articles downplaying the Switch 2 because they believed it was far from being more powerful than the PS4?

Phantom Liberty is a part of the game. If it can't run it. It can't run the game.
