I've got it, it's fun, and original, and it's success is good for the games industry in general. Sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but no need to hate on it, after all regardless of how good Gears of War 2, it would get boring if we only ever got to play the same style of game over and over.

edit: What the freaking hell did I get a disagree for??? I like Gears 2, hell I think it's a great game, all I did was say it would be boring if that was the only game in existence, which is true.

el_bandito6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

As said so many times, It's a new IP. You shouldn't compare it to blockbuster sequels. It will sell progressively perhaps in small numbers, unlike the latter which could be sold out in just a matter of days.

Remember ICO? Though it was critically acclaimed , it did not sell in great numbers. All I know it was a great game that I played.

Bottomline: Everyone should just play and enjoy a great game, and do away with the numbers. Leave that problem to the developers and their marketing dept.

techie6055d ago

Gears of War was a new IP...

Cenobia6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

They're talking about Gears 2...

Edit:
If you are trying to compare Gears 1 sales with LBP sales, they are completely different genres, Gears had a larger ad campaign, Gears appealed to the 360 fan base more (while LBP is often thought of as "kiddie" even though it isn't), and I'm fairly certain Gears didn't go up against a line up like we have this year.

Why o why6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

gears 1 sold remarkably well and it was a new ip

Cenobia

yeah true im just clarifying what i thought deep meant. Shooters tend to sell well and are not really comparable to platformers, correct and like u said MS DO promotion whereas Sony DONT

n4gzz6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

god of war was new ip, mgs 1 was new ip, gt was new ip once.

oh Almost forgot to mention, resistance was new ip too :D
Some sells quick some takes time and some don't.

techie6055d ago

So the problem is that it's a new IP and it's not a shooter.

I think blame also lies with the advertising.

Ps:

"[UPDATE] - It has been pointed out to me that although the UK represents around a third of Europe's video games market, it actually represents approximately 25% of the PlayStation market. That is, PlayStation games sell very strongly in Germany, France, Spain etc. This means that LittleBigPlanet should be above four-hundred-units in Europe."

Pretty good.

Apparently Ratchet and Clank PS3 took 10 months to go above 100k in the UK, whereas LBP took less than a month :)

WANNA GET HIGH6055d ago

Well i did not buy LBP because its not my type of game but i really hope it sells well over the long run.Its nice to see innovating games get do well even tho i dont plan to buy it.

TheTwelve6055d ago

If Fable 2 JUST sold 1.5 million worldwide and it's not frowned on, I wonder why people are giving LBP a hard time when it has reached 1 million in such a short time, with the nasty competition, and in this worldwide economy slide.

Good job Sackboy. :)

ultimolu6055d ago

You know why Twelve? Because it's on the PS3!

Bladestar6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

@TheTwelve - That's because most people in this site (Mostly a Sony fan community) Thought that Fable 2 was going to flop in review and sells... and LBP was going to be the second coming, "The New Super Mario, the YouTube, etc" of gaming.

Also, because Fable 2 is a hardcore gamer game and an RPG... and 1.5 million for an RPG game on the xbox 360 is actually very good.

And LBP which is a casual game which is being hyped like crazy didn't sell better than Fable 2? mmmm.. I guess that's the answer to your question.

You can't expect a game like LBP who's being used to bash the xbox 360... and all the crap said against Fable 2... and when the games are finally released and the opposite happens that no one will say anything...

ultimolu6055d ago

There you go with the *people* Bladestar. Name them. Who said this specifically?

wallace10006055d ago

Note - For the record i am not pointing fingers at anyone in here because i can't actually remember the people on this site that said it the most.
I think people are coming down hard on this game because so many people were saying how LBP was going to drive PS3 adoption through the roof and mark the end of the 360 and so on so forth. I didn't see that happening for games like Fable 2 on this site, i might have missed it though.
Personally i don't care how the game sells because i don't have a PS3, however if i did though i think i would give this game a whirl because it does look different. I don't actually care how any games sell, i just like the play them.

Man_of_the_year6055d ago

Oh Come On Juuken...Don't be so ignorant - you were in the articles and i know you saw and read a ton of HYPE for LBP by Sony Fanboys and Girls like yourself...

don't ask stupid questions that you already know the answers too.

Mr_Potato_6055d ago

LBP exceeded the hype, it IS the youtube of gaming and sackboy could well become the new super mario. This has nothing to do with the first month sales. Reviews were stellar, and more and more people are joining the band right now.

With already 1 million sold for a new IP, it's quite enough to allow sackboy to grow.

Mario didn't instantly sell 10 million games in the first day you know..

Why o why6055d ago

they are the same person. yeah, issues

shawnsl656055d ago

everyone knows if LBP was on the Wii, it'd receive diamond status.

N4U6055d ago

LBP has a shot at Cooperstown!

It's the young up-and-cummer that not many know about, but everyone soon will...you know, cuz he has an 18 incher and loads of...well, load.

Words, spoken both eloquently and in an inarticulate manner, will spread like a wildfire, inevitably leading to great sales for the great game that is LPB!

That's my assessment and I'm sticking to it!

PS: !!!

Tarasque6055d ago

First off if you are worrying over sales of a game you have bigger problems to deal with.

ultimolu6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

Just wow Man_of_the_Year. It was bad enough I killed your argument in the RE5 article and now you want me to kill your argument here.

You don't want to see things get ugly, trust me.

Don't worry Why o why...I'm realizing that I'm talking to brick walls here.

Danja6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

if LBP was on the Wii , why do ppl think that the quality of the game would remain the same...?

The graphics wouldn't be stellar
The physics would be mediocre at best
level design would suffer due to hardware limitation
and most of all the best thing about LBP , the online ,would flat out suck...

prunchess6055d ago

When Gears of War came out there was very few games available on the 360. All we really ever played was Tiger Woods and Fifa prior to gears 1.

karlostomy6055d ago

Your rhetoric is about as useful as square wheels on a bicycle.

To all intents and purposes, LBP failed to live up to expectations, exactly as bladestar said. It just makes me sad to see you spin it again and denying the evidence, to justify your fragile ego.

Here, read this and lighten up:

Marquis_de_Sade6054d ago

I really like LBP, however it clearly isn't the game to push massive amounts of PS3 like many people on here said it would and the sales so far have been dissapointing. I expected it to sell a lot more than fable, considering LBP has mass market appeal whereas Fable 2 is a game that doesn't cater to the core 360 demographic.

Anyone who thought this game was doomed is nothing but a freakin' idiot.

This game is very fun, cute, and innovative. I even made friends while playing it.

Liquid Dust6055d ago

Added about 4 new friends to list while playing online. Im looking forward to seeing what Sony has laid out for advertising LBP next month. I think they should up the ante a little more though than just 1 million, though six figures is quite ample, maybe 4 or 5 mil? hmm?

CR7JUVE18976055d ago

I sent you another e-mail this morning. Did you get it?

ultimolu6055d ago

I look forward to it as well. I think Sony will be advertising heavily by next month, which is excellent.

Luv Burger: I have to check my email.

BrianC62346055d ago

Isn't it funny how all these reports popped up on the Web talking about poor sales for LittleBigPlanet? Those idiots act like if a game doesn't sell in huge numbers its first week that it will never sell. This isn't the movie business where opening weekend sales matter the most. Some games sell huge on the first day. Others sell well over a longer period. And with the economy the way it is and so many other games coming out I'd say LittleBigPlanet is selling great.

6055d ago
BrianC62346055d ago

"if you knew anything about the movie industry, you'd know that MOST movies make the majority of their money off of dvd sales, not on opening weekend"

What's that have to do with anything? DVD sales are different from theater sales. That's like comparing used game sales to DVD sales really. I'm talking about when a movie first comes out versus when a game first comes out. DVD sales happen months after the movie is released.

Rhoic6055d ago

"I even made friends while playing it."

Is it hard to make friends on PSN? Lulz sorry, I had too.. you made it too easy XD

Marquis_de_Sade6054d ago

I purchased my PS3 when MGS4 was released, since then I have 4 (yes, just 4....) friends, 1 of whom 1 know in real life and another is an XBL friend. Now to put it in perspective, in the same time period on XBL, I have gone from around 60 on my friends list, to around 90. However, from what I hear, Home will be a mssive boost to the community aspect of PSN.

PS: Sony, please do something to speed up the time it takes to load up someones profile, even my own -_-. And NEW AVATARS! Or at least the option to download our own.

This game is fun, im playing right now trying to make a level.
The creativity in this game can get crazy

Nitrowolf26055d ago

I take it the disagree are from the trolls.

Anon19746055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

Yeah, what could they possibly disagree with? Are you actually not making a level right now? Do these people know you and are saying "That's BS! He's actually playing COD right now!"
Or are they saying that creativity never gets crazy? That's it's always sane and rational and never steps outside of the norms?
Maybe they disagree that LBP, or videogames in general are actually fun. Perhaps they're Amish, and came across this article on the computer they use in the barn to track milking schedules. "LBP is not fun, English. Ye want fun? We held a community meeting and decided to disagree to yon post. Hitting rocks with sticks, now that's how ye spend an afternoon!" (Amish people don't say you, they say ye, like stereotypes from the middle ages).

Armyless6055d ago

Haters have been hatin' on LBP since launch. It's the most creative game on the market. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

Never realized Mass Effect was still selling so well in the UK talk about super long legs, also why does Gears 2 get a silver, gold and platinum award when every other games just gets one

As for LBP i dont think anyone believed it was doomed its just that it sold a lot less than many people expected it to including Sony

techie6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

It basically means that it reached each of those milestones in that month. Some of the other titles had reached those milestones in previous months. Eg. Wii Fit reached the 1million milestone in November, but had reached 600k in a previous month :)

Optimus_Prime6055d ago

Silver sales award are given to games that have sold 100k in Europe. That's not that impressive.

Sony fanboys, get over it. Little Big Planet bombed in America, bombed badly in Japan and bombed in Europe.

Sales of 100k+ are not good for a game that was portrayed as one of the PS3 saviors.

Why o why6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

just glad i've something different to play. LBP was never a saviour just a revolutionary throwback type of a game plus the ps3 doesn't/didn't need saving. geese you seem like the negative type. Its like me saying the price drop was 360's saviour;)

Austin_SJ6055d ago (Edited 6055d ago )

I think, according to the article, that the award is given to games that sell over 100k in the UK, that's why he estimates european sales at 300k. Considering that this weeks sales figures aren't in yet, it is possible that it will sell more.

But 300,000 isn't such a bad figure anyway, it's certainly more than Banjo Kazoe, which is a comparable competitor.

Cenobia6055d ago

Yeah sales are way more important to me than how fun a game is.

You're right I should just sell my PS3 and buy a 360 and Gears 2 because they sell more in the US. Thank you for saving me from having fun with the games I enjoy, and getting me to buy things based on what other people buy.

techie6055d ago

Read. UK only. UK represents 25% PlayStation Europe market. So LBP should be at least 400k in Europe alone.

englishgolfer6055d ago

the game was given a silver award for reaching 100k sold copies. actually it is given for a game selling between 100k and 200k in one calender month. granted it might not be up close to the 200k mark but if it was then as england accounts for 25% of sales in europe this puts lbp at 800k sold so far. it's probably not there yet but who knows....

cayal6055d ago

Optimus Prime two things:

PS3 does not need saving, thus doesn't need a 'savior'.

A million sales does not equal bomb (and yes if you do that math it is at a million or close to).

Stop being a fanboy and accept that the game is selling and was a critical success.

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga411d ago (Edited 411d ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow412d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo182411d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie410d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow410d ago (Edited 410d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

410d ago
Hereandthere410d ago

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere410d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow409d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX411d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney409d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody411d ago (Edited 411d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno411d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Sheppard7t3411d ago

How did Sony kill the series?

Inverno411d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

410d ago
fsfsxii410d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno410d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

wealthofgeeks.com
thorstein464d ago (Edited 464d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville463d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi463d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein463d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos463d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein462d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

ZycoFox463d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long463d ago

Top 20 Best PlayStation 3 Games (20-11)

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Is the PlayStation 3 retro? This is a surprisingly hard question to answer as the system definitely has the age to be considered retro, having launched in 2006, over 15 years ago now. But with it being home to so many massive games, many of which still hold up today and in fact were released for the PlayStation 4 when that console was released, make the PS3 a retro console that doesn’t feel retro."

No ps3 is not retro. I dont even consider ps2 era retro. All imo.

shinoff21831150d ago

Typically, the term retro is given to items which are at least 20 years old (but not yet 40 years old).

Quick google search

badz1491149d ago

No the PS3 is not yet a retro console. But if you're gonna put 1 game from a series in this list, then LBP2 should be there instead of the original, Motorstorm PR is also an overall better game than the 1st game and to put Tools of Destruction over A Crack in Time is a blasphemy when ACiT is the best game in the series.
