PlayStation: Launching a console during a pandemic "is a massive challenge on every front"

From Games Industry: "PlayStation has debuted its first PlayStation 5 ad, which makes the pitch that the next generation is all about how games "feel".

That's been the case since the start with PS5. This new console will be less about how nice games look -- we've been seeing diminishing returns in that department with each passing generation -- but rather how they will sound, how it will feel to use the controller, and how fast it all is."

Gonna be a crazy launch. Can't wait.

bouzebbal1767d ago

Pandemic is only in people's heads.. No one dies of this crap.. Please move on!!
Thing isn't deadly at all!!! Even compared to seasonal diseases we get every year

mandf1767d ago

Moron. It's very serious.

IRetrouk1767d ago

My post had nothing to do with covid, just that I think the launch will be mental. Regardless of your beliefs people are dying, we should be doing all we can to curb it.

PoopsMcGee1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

It's the third leading cause of deaths in the U.S. now. Only surpassed by cancer and heart disease. Kills more than car wrecks...

Do seasonal diseases fill up our hospitals to the breaking point every year? No.

Get your facts straight.

bouzebbal1767d ago

Obvious

No one dies directly of that.. I invite you to read the numbers, and how they label the deaths.. And you are perfect proof of what I'm saying.. It's in people's heads.. Influenza deaths are close to 0 this year for a reason.. There is no overdeath due to this, especially compared to previous years...

"Maybe you should consider be more sensitive on those things as there are people around us who has lost loved ones for that."
How about you stop driving cars because millions lost loved ones in car accidents every year.. It's serious because media told you so..

CrimsonWing691767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

ummmm... there's been a lot of deaths from young to old people, so you might want to get your facts straight.

jukins1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

Overdeath. .. . . Yea wonder where you got that narrative from. 0 flu deaths you say? Funny how over 50k have been tracked from last year to jun this year. Now add on new illness on top of that . . . And just incase you need proof to realize your blatant lie

Iamnothuman121767d ago

Highest levels of idiocies right here.

LucasRuinedChildhood1767d ago

"No one dies of this crap" 173,000 documented deaths in America so far (the real number is likely over 200,000), and it's projected that millions worldwide would have died without the lockdowns. Facts don't care about your feelings, mate.

L7CHAPEL1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

you know it's never real to somebody that's already decided it isn't, until you know someone that has died of it.
I got to tell you buddy, this childishly moronic thinking of yours, it's just ridiculous.
over a hundred and seventy-three thousand people have died from it in this country which probably doesn't sound significant to you until it's your mother your father your brother or sister or one of your kids then it becomes very significant.
no one is dying of it, huh?
I buried a friend that would say different.
you obviously like to read a lot of rhetoric, the thing that seems to escape your logic is that there isn't a treatment a vaccine or cure for it, and that it doesn't discriminate.
it isn't necessarily people that have pre-existing conditions.
and we're going into a flu season, if you get it some sort of respiratory infection and this virus piggybacks on to it your hopes for survival drop so low it's not even funny.
but for some people there just isn't enough death to convince them that they're pompously arrogant assumptions (coming from no technical /scientific/medical knowledge whatsoever) are ridiculous, as are yours.
so you're not just an idiot, your a callous idiot.

ForwardDude1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

Don't try to argue bouzebbal. Covid19 is a religion. Doctors killed people by not following medical protocol and put people needlessly on respirator which killed most of them as expected. 2018 had way more death by a respiratory disease, but as I said Covid19 is a religion now and you don't argue with fanatical religious people.

@bouzebbal
Your brain, the meager bit of matter that it is, is polluted with your own backed up feces. Seek help for your mental weakness, and educate yourself you poor, unfortunate critter.

@bouzebbal

Hope you're just being an unfunny troll right now. Tell the people who have lost somebody to covid that this shi** doesn't exist.

Everyone's in the same boat. The thing is, the financial impact people have felt is offset (to some degree) by the craving of some kind of enjoyment from life. People feel like they deserve a treat after such a crap period and many foreign holidays fell by the wayside this year, so I'm not sure uptake will be negatively impacted as much as some might think.

Delivering the product and the games is another story and I totally get how this will have been very difficult to achieve for the middle 6 months of this year. Here's hoping the launch games were far enough along in development not to be too greatly affected.

porkChop1767d ago

Yeah people want a treat and some enjoyment. But with plenty of people out of work or working reduced hours, they don't have the funds. Combine that with the fact that these new consoles are likely more expensive than last gen. The launch systems will still sell out, obviously. But after that I think sales will be slower than usual.

SullysCigar1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

You could well be right there. And let's not even think about the possibility of a second wave once the colder months arrive. The only benefit we'd have is the learning and adapting as a result of 2020 so far, but even then it would prolong the suffering to the global economy - and us consumers - so it could start to hit the gaming industry more on the financial front too.

I guess time will tell.

CBaoth1767d ago

nope. just watch - if these consoles are $499 or lower they'll be hard to find throughout fiscal 2020. Tax returns guarantee healthy sales Feb-March. When next gen software hits the second half of 2021 they'll gather steam again heading into Holidays 2021. The only way these consoles sell worse is if they're priced $599 or above and have massive droughts

AnnaDea1767d ago

Quite the opposite.

When everyone is at home they wanna do something.

Jin_Sakai1767d ago

It’s a massive challenge getting enough PS5 consoles made for everyone especially during a pandemic where everyone seems to want one.

AnnaDea1767d ago

True.

Gonna be sold out.
