Halo Infinite's Open World Has Upgrades to Discover, Places to Explore, New Weapons to Find

Halo Infinite will feature an open world suited for Microsoft's first-person shooter.

* And current-gen graphics to see.

Seriously, I thought this looked average. I was expecting to be blown away. They said they were previously looking forward to finally being the ones to "own E3 in 2020". With that showing they wouldn't have owned a damn thing. Disappointing.

Hakuoro1762d ago

The game was in development for years for xbox one obviously it's going to look like a xbone game.

So much for the whole we're developing it for SX and scaling it down for xbone...

Until Micrsoft makes SX only games SX is just another console in the xbone line, xbone X 1.5.

AngelicIceDiamond1762d ago

Ever Wild, HB2, Forza, avowed, State Of Decay 2 are only on X Series

This pic is supposedly at 4k from that demo and while I can appreciate the detail in things like the fingernails and the character models... those background trees are really low res. Is this what they mean by variable rate shading and deferred rendering? Like you arent meant to really notice the background, so its rendered at a lower res, but you are supposed to focus on the foreground and the action.

KRUSSIDULL1762d ago (Edited 1762d ago )

Damn that looks bad. Now compare to engine trailer: https://content.halocdn.com...

They must have played on low settings lmao. I am disappointed.

" Is this what they mean by variable rate shading and deferred rendering"

No. What you describe is what's referred to as Level of Detail. They're objects which have varying levels of detail that get drawn based on their distance to the camera or how much they're obscured by other things....typically fog.

VRS is a technique utilized to achieve LOD's, and is generally better than what is currently used. But VRS can be used for other things as well....and in some ways can be thought of as just LOD for closer objects. How well it works depends on it's implementation. What was shown in the trailer is nowhere near what the XSX can achieve. Hell, the OGX1 can achieve better lighting and particle effects than what was shown today.

Deferred rendering is just a different way to process lighting, as it moves it towards the end of the rendering process, instead of it being at, or near the beginning. It's not really a next gen feature, and is commonly available in most major game engines, or it's available through multiple 3rd party tools.

Even when you got close to those things and they were within the foreground, the detail didn't increase in the way that you would expect, so they're just lower quality models and textures.

People just need to expect that this is a current gen game that got hyped up because it became a selling point for the XSX launch, and has been built up more than what it could achieve. Even if it wasn't a cross gen game, it appears the game still needs more time in production. It probably won't get it, as I think MS is in a position where they would be very hesitant to delay the game. I don't think it will have an issue running on XSX with the graphics quality shown, and it can easily achieve 4K/60 with what was shown today...or even better. But, using it as an example of what to expect from next gen is going to be hard for the fan boys going forward, and I think MS lose a lot of hype, and while I didn't think it was possible, respect, because this show just seems like it was kind of a last straw of taking them at their word.

Rimeskeem1762d ago

So basically should score no higher than Ghost of Tsushima given it's lack of *innovation*

Software_Lover1762d ago

Its an open world Halo game.

Add to that it will probably be a different person reviewing Halo than reviewed Ghost so opinions vary.

chiefJohn1171762d ago

And you know this how? And it open world halo.... innovation in your face lol

Rimeskeem1762d ago

Oh yes, because it's Halo it's innovative kekw

WillyC0091762d ago

You can do it all in stunning 4K, 60 FPS! Enjoy that extensive pop in, flat character models and poor foliage in the beauty of 4K!

SerpentDiaboli1762d ago

And in the end... so much noise they made with the Teraflops and I don't know how much more about, to finally show their Best Exclusive (most expensive videogame in history?) with unnaceptable Graphics if we are referring to what it means the Next-gen!! if they had not done so much Circus with the "Super Power" of the Console; it would pass over but now it is three times much Shameful and Pathetic what they just showed- this confirms that Xbox SX will clearly be born pretty much Dead already: can't even compete with PS5 at all

GoodGuy091762d ago (Edited 1762d ago )

Sure graphics weren't all that great but I like their stance on keeping 60fps. I just hope the gameplay and story are good, cant wait for this one. We need to remember that mcsft doesn't really have the talent that is on par with sony's top studios that can produce amazing visuals. These studios will have to prove themselves first.

lukasmain1762d ago

Miles Morales Spiderman is going to be 4k 60fps mode and will look 10 times better than this 4k pic from Halo https://news.xbox.com/en-us...

Koolaidude1761d ago

It’s also glorified DLC that fans like you will foolishly support.

"The story would have been expanded through yearly campaign DLC, so players would not have to wait for another mainline Halo title." ~ this seldom works
But I still think, they should've tried 1 last Halo sequel based on that slipspace engine, that they invested so much on but made for current gen only, before going all in on UE5.

Call me a cynic. But it seems that not even the people working in the studio know what’s the status of Halo.

They were going to add a BR mode, which then got cancelled, but now it’s a sequel to infinite, but may be a reboot of the first game?

It may be normal for development to be like this as super Mario galaxy started as cut content from Mario 128, which then became a tech demo, which became pikmin, which eventually became Mario galaxy.

But 343 or whatever they are called now-certainly don’t have a good track record so it makes me wonder what’s happening.

porkChop183d ago

The Halo: CE remake is a separate project from the Infinite sequel.

Knightofelemia183d ago

Maybe all the staff got laid off.

TheColbertinator183d ago

I'd be much more comfortable with the future of Halo if "343" or whatever they call themselves now were no longer in charge of the series.

WTF!!!? Can we add Tic-Tac-Toe, maybe Connect 4? How bout the card game Go Fish? Microsoft should shelve the Halo Franchise for 10 to 20yrs or sell it clearly they have no new ideas to take Halo forward and putting a "Hey gamer finish the game for us" mode and we can make more money off it and we can fire some more game Developers that we really don't even care about.......Microsoft is done even trying to make Halo a game worthy of even a little bit of our time.
