I'm really looking forward to this remake. Hangar 13 is a pretty good developer, so I'm hoping they do the game justice, unlike the Mafia 2 remaster.

Mafia 3 is so buggy. Currently playing it and damn, piss poor AI and lots of bugs ruin what was otherwise a great premise for a game.

V3geta1786d ago

The Mafia franchise has such a great premise, but so far hasn't been able to fully utilize it.

Thing is it was pretty solid experience before the definitive edition hit. Then the game took a step backwards. Ridiculous really. Hangar 13 really have shown how poor they are recently and really been dragging themselves through the gutter publicly.

Don't get me wrong, I am really, really enjoying it. The bugs aren't too frequent and for the most part can be ignored but man what a game they could have made. Lincoln is a great protagonist, the story had amazing potential. If it was made to R* standards, it'd have been a flawless 10/10 imo.

If and when this game gets an update based on sales, I think it's more about some gamers wondering if they'll get the new version for free just because they bought the current gen version. As if they are entitled to any new version for free.

They could make a PS6, Xbox Omega and Nintendo Traveler HD version, and there would be those that think they should get it free. Probably think they should get this one for buying the last version.

It's all good if they want to give me the new version for free. I just don't demand they give it to me. BC is there for a reason. But a Remaster or Remake isn't the same game you purchased. If it was, then I'd want Demon Souls PS5 for free for buying it on PS3. But I know better that Sony's not giving it away. And I don't expect them to.

Mafia Proves How A Well-Presented Story Can Overcome Terrible Gameplay

Shaz from GL: "Sometimes a game's story can be so captivating and so well presented that it makes up for its lacklustre gameplay; such is the case with Mafia: Definitive Edition."

Have to agree. Love the game as a whole, but the gunplay is pretty lackluster. Wouldn't call it outright terrible though.

When I went into Mafia I was looking for some Godfather game style gameplay. While Mafia 1 and 2 have disappointed me on this front I am hoping for the new one to satiate.

Despite this I do agree with the writer here I love me some Mafia stuff even if it isn't as good (imo) as the Godfather game

jambola296d ago

eh, it was the ps2 era
most games had terrible gameplay
especially shooters, especially 3rd person shooters

Profchaos296d ago

Yeah in a way played Mafia one after spending months playing vice city and the gameplay felt so clunky in comparison so there was certainly better games it there that felt good to play

Friendlygamer296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

Now that's crazy revisionism to me, in the ps2 era many devs mastered 3d graphics and gameplay, heck I would say that we really haven't evolved all that much past games like dmc 3, metal gear 3, Splinter cell, resident evil 4... in design, as a matter of fact I would say we went backwards in some aspects (physics and experimentation). That era has some tight shooters too like : the darwatch, black, king kong, psy ops, gun, the punisher

PrecursorOrb296d ago

1 and 2 had fun gameplay for their time. Yeah comparing them to shooters now is a little unfair imo

Iceball2000296d ago

Honestly the original PC version I find was better. But the remake was good too.

sagapo295d ago

I completely agree. Nothing beats the original imo.

Yep the best they did then they tossed out the horrific mafia 2 remake that is still broken to this day.

chicken_in_the_corn319d ago

That wasn't a remake. It was a remaster.

just_looken319d ago

@chicken

They redid the character models added more destruction and screwed with he art/environment

Its not even close to mafia 1 but not a remaster as in a graphics boost they did more than a graphics upgrade.

I sort if disagree with The Getaway. Playing it all those years ago, it had a dodgy control system, more so vehicles, was slow and was graphically unfinished. The sequel was even worse and the third game on PS3 was canned. I think Sony should take both games and merge them into one (as with the soon to be released Max Payne 1 and 2). Weird how Sony messed up The Getaway never to be seen again.
