Can console gaming survive a $10 price increase?

2K Games recently announced the price for NBA 2K21 on next-generation consoles, and to the surprise of the gaming community, it came in a $70, a whole $10 more than we are used to. This has led a lot of people to theorize that all next-gen games will be at a $70 price point.

It’s been a long time since the price of games increased, or rather, it’s been a long time since the price of games were standardized.

You mean only in America. All the other countries already had a price increased. Digital games in the UK on PS4 stores are already £60, while it's $60 on the PlayStation store.

Make Physical discs and box games 70 and let digital stay at 60.

Yes it will survive. Prices really haven’t changed on games for nearly two decades, yet salaries, teams, and game complexity have increased exponentially (for AAA games). Something has to give.

I usually by five to ten games a year, now I may only buy exclusives and wait for the rest to go one sale.
