Nope, Horizon is using Decima engine, made by Guerilla themselves. Also used for Death Stranding BTW.

Google Decima engine and some of the tech talks they made about it, great stuff!

Not only did Horizon use the Decima Engine, but when Kojima Productions made new modifications for the engine, these features were provided back to Guerrilla for their changes for the next generation.

With Sony looking to purchase Leyou, the parent company of Digital Extremes, Splash Damage, and a couple of other companies and endeavors, the next gen is looking great for PlayStation.

I'm glad they've improved UE5 so much... I wonder how Gears, Hellblade 2 and those games at The Initiative, inXile, Playground Games and Obsidian will look like with all these bells and whistles. I'm seriously hyped here. 🤤

When/If this deal with PlayStation expires, we might see Epic praising Series X games as well.

Maybe that's the exact reason MS isn't doing any Series X Exclusive games yet and is instead making it all cross gen for about 2 years.
No matter what, at the end of the day, these new machines should be able to do some pretty awesome things once devs have gotten over the learning curves.

It’s not all cross gen on Xbox. There are multiple games that are announced that are next gen only. Hellblade 2, the medium etc but they are not working on making a selection of their 1st party next gen (prob until unreal engine 5 gathers steam)

They are doing that for cheap developing.
They have not included the base Xbox one in advertising for three years but yet still use the basic 1998 game engines to put lots of paint on said games while holding back advancements. It’s cheap.

People took the 2 years cross gen too literal. Their will be next gen exclusives in the first two years. You will see majority being crossgen and support for last gen for the first 2 year then they'll stop all attention to last gen. That's what they meant.

That's a lot of Xbox Studios titles using UE... vs. only one (for now)

It's a multiplatform engine. They aren't invested in the console wars like you are. Epic isn't looking at stuff from a exclusive vs exclusive stand point when it comes to UE5.

A whole host of third parties will be using UE5 a lot of which will be running on both consoles, which pale in comparison to the single console only UE5 titles.

I've got no doubt both systems will knock it out the park, particularly with their first party titles. I'm going with Playstation purely based on the strength of their back catalogue. What I'm not looking forward to is the fanboys arguing over pixels and frame rates, things are going to get very toxic.

Yup in the end it is all about the games. No one does exclusives better than Sony. Ps is my choice for now, though I would really love for xbox to change my mind. I can't wait for the new God of War

I'm interested to see what the new Halo looks like, I've never been a big fan of the game but I have a feeling this one is going to be very impressive, also Hellblade which I'll admit I'm disappointed we wont be seeing on PS5. There will be a lot of eyes on the upcoming Xbox showcase that's for sure....

"Great idea" is debatable but I really think they only existed this gen out of circumstantial necessity (systems were created weak to facilitate costs after a recession and 4k was just coming in big). They needed to future-proof their systems to hold out the generation. Something I don't see being the issue next gen.

Every 3-5 years we just see new consoles and they just run everything already written. No need to call generations anymore.

previous gens had some trailers to make people hyped for the new gen .killzone 2 e3 2005 was awesome and made me curious about next gen graphics and crysis was not even exagerating!in the 8th gen witcher 3 kinda did it and hyped me so much .but this gen we havent seen anything yet other than that ue5 tech demo.i need something crazy like that killzone 2 fake trailer .it was fake but made me crazy for next gen graphics and i enjoyed it .

Then you will love Hellblade2 which was also a fake trailer. Yet many see it and think that will be what the game looks like.

Hopefully they, the devs, will get more out of EU5, but to expect anything along the lines of that trailer will leave many with disappointment.

Can not wait till next gen is in full swing to see what first party and third parties will be capable of pulling off.

The unreal 5 tech looks incredible, and the frightening thing is this is a middle ware engine. Can only imagine what a custom engine from Naughty Dog will produce.

Looking forward to seeing what the many XGS using UE5 do with the engine. IMO, The Coalition already proved the best use case for UE4 in a game with Gears 5...can only imagine what they could do in the future.

Don't want some movie quality graphics, I want some A.I advancements that provide immersion, graphics are good enough so stop focusing on it so much and focus on A.I like not combat A.I but actual A.I what brings immersion, nonhostile NPC, etc

Surr minimum requirement to develop ateast for the Playstation will be 10tf and its a noticeable jump from one but technology now days have over 20 tf whoever has a half brain now that it cost little extra to manufacture 10tf or 20tf but companies love giving us technology very slowly so they can brag about a upgrade soon after in casi tech doesn't advance much. You can’t focus on movie level graphics with ps1 game mechanics. You can’t make your game look like a movie and still have the character not react in a natural way when running into walls or spinning the character in circles, etc.
