This next gen is just heating up. What we see at launch will pale in comparison in a year or two.

purple1011391d ago

I feel this is correct.

Look at horizon 2 now, imagine horizon 3! Hard I know.. But the only way is up!

MecheSlays1391d ago

Horizon is still stylized graphics. The detail in those crabs and shit by the water tho had me fuckin shook.

Marquinho1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Does Horizon 2 use Unreal Engine though?

I think Hellblade 2 will be the referent for this Engine in the near future.

Jin_Sakai1391d ago

“Does Horizon 2 use Unreal Engine though?“

Days Gone is one of the best looking games I’ve seen and it’s using UE. Can’t even imagine what the sequel will look like running on UE5.

Aenea1391d ago

@marquinho

Nope, Horizon is using Decima engine, made by Guerilla themselves. Also used for Death Stranding BTW.

Google Decima engine and some of the tech talks they made about it, great stuff!

morganfell1390d ago

Not only did Horizon use the Decima Engine, but when Kojima Productions made new modifications for the engine, these features were provided back to Guerrilla for their changes for the next generation.

With Sony looking to purchase Leyou, the parent company of Digital Extremes, Splash Damage, and a couple of other companies and endeavors, the next gen is looking great for PlayStation.

Marquinho1390d ago (Edited 1390d ago )

I'm glad they've improved UE5 so much... I wonder how Gears, Hellblade 2 and those games at The Initiative, inXile, Playground Games and Obsidian will look like with all these bells and whistles. I'm seriously hyped here. 🤤

When/If this deal with PlayStation expires, we might see Epic praising Series X games as well.

Maybe that's the exact reason MS isn't doing any Series X Exclusive games yet and is instead making it all cross gen for about 2 years.
No matter what, at the end of the day, these new machines should be able to do some pretty awesome things once devs have gotten over the learning curves.

Z23ash1391d ago

It’s not all cross gen on Xbox. There are multiple games that are announced that are next gen only. Hellblade 2, the medium etc but they are not working on making a selection of their 1st party next gen (prob until unreal engine 5 gathers steam)

Rude-ro1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

They are doing that for cheap developing.
They have not included the base Xbox one in advertising for three years but yet still use the basic 1998 game engines to put lots of paint on said games while holding back advancements. It’s cheap.
Sounds mean and biased... but true.

RamRod881391d ago

@rude, Are you talking about the launch Xbox one? You know they stopped manufacture those consoles after the Xbox One S version came out? They advertise the X1S all the time.
Not sure what you're talking about in your second sentence. Are you referring to Halo? Please explain.

chiefJohn1171391d ago

People took the 2 years cross gen too literal. Their will be next gen exclusives in the first two years. You will see majority being crossgen and support for last gen for the first 2 year then they'll stop all attention to last gen. That's what they meant.

Marquinho1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Finally someone at EPIC remembered there's another console on the planet too... whose exclusives, ironically, will make use Epic's engine more than any others.

CaptainHenry9161391d ago

Didn't Days gone use Unreal Engine too? I'm sure the sequel will use Unreal Engine 5 not to mention some other exclusives.

Marquinho1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Yes, and it looked good, but among Series X exclusives using UE you will have (for what I quickly remember)

Hellbade 2
Everwild
inXile Title
The Initiative Title (Perfect Dark?)
Playground Games Title (Fable?)
Gears 6
New Double Fine game
New Obsidian Game (consdering The Outer Worlds and Grounded use UE)
Scorn (3rd party)

That's a lot of Xbox Studios titles using UE... vs. only one (for now)

Outside_ofthe_Box1391d ago

Damn, Epic praising PS5 has you struggling to sleep at night huh?

It's a multiplatform engine. They aren't invested in the console wars like you are. Epic isn't looking at stuff from a exclusive vs exclusive stand point when it comes to UE5.

A whole host of third parties will be using UE5 a lot of which will be running on both consoles, which pale in comparison to the single console only UE5 titles.

Marquinho1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

"Damn, Epic praising PS5 has you struggling to sleep at night huh?"

Haha.. it's actually funny how some guys actually believe these things can be that important in one's life. I guess it is just you trying to mirror your feelings.

All I'm saying is that a year from now, this deal with Sony will look silly when games start to speak by themselves...

Nothing to lose your sleep for my friend. Actually, very few things are worth it =)

Outside_ofthe_Box1391d ago

In an article that talks about both consoles in a positive light, you're focused on what they did/didn't say about your favorite console in the past. . . 🤷

Deal with Sony, but are mentioning SX. . . I'm mirroring my own feelings? . . . whatever makes you feel better =D

Marquinho1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Well... I guess people around here take these things too seriously. Guess you answered the wrong guy ;)

If you read again, with no hard feelings in mind, you'll notice it's just a regular comment... relevant to the subject and true to the truth.

Peace =)

P.S. You don't have to dislike my comment again, others like you will. That's how much we both care :D

Outside_ofthe_Box1391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

"If you read again, with no hard feelings in mind, you'll notice it's just a regular comment... relevant to the subject and true to the truth."

Well you sumned up what you were trying to say . . . :

"All I'm saying is that a year from now, this deal with Sony will look silly when games start to speak by themselves"

I mean, if that's relevant to both consoles achieving movie quality graphics next gen then I apologize. . .

"P.S. You don't have to dislike my comment again, others like you will. That's how much we both care :D"

I didn't hit the down vote/dislike/disagree on any of your comments, but the fact that you brought that up kinda goes against the notion that none of this stuff worries you. . . ;D

Marquinho1391d ago

"I didn't hit the down vote/dislike/disagree on any of your comments, but the fact that you brought that up kinda goes against the notion that none of this stuff worries you. . . ;D"

Then we're both talking to the wrong person 😂

I've got no doubt both systems will knock it out the park, particularly with their first party titles. I'm going with Playstation purely based on the strength of their back catalogue. What I'm not looking forward to is the fanboys arguing over pixels and frame rates, things are going to get very toxic.

Sunny123451391d ago

Yup in the end it is all about the games. No one does exclusives better than Sony. Ps is my choice for now, though I would really love for xbox to change my mind. I can't wait for the new God of War

East76lands1391d ago

I'm interested to see what the new Halo looks like, I've never been a big fan of the game but I have a feeling this one is going to be very impressive, also Hellblade which I'll admit I'm disappointed we wont be seeing on PS5. There will be a lot of eyes on the upcoming Xbox showcase that's for sure....

Sunny123451391d ago

Yup. That's the reason I want to see more gameplay and less talks. Its surely gonna be an amazing next gen

1391d ago
Kavorklestein1391d ago

They have already been toxic for a long time.
What I'm really not excited for is the advantages or pros/cons of either new console to be minimized or maximized to dilute the truth.

Wotbot1391d ago

I am hoping we don’t have mid gen upgrades because both machines are fairly evenly matched.

airshiraz1391d ago

it was a great idea in the 8th gen .what was negative about it??

Wotbot1391d ago

I like to have a good generation jump, mid gen to next gen isn’t as amazing as going from 1.3 TF to a 12tf.

_Decadent_Descent1390d ago

"Great idea" is debatable but I really think they only existed this gen out of circumstantial necessity (systems were created weak to facilitate costs after a recession and 4k was just coming in big). They needed to future-proof their systems to hold out the generation. Something I don't see being the issue next gen.

Ausbo1391d ago

Since both consoles are on par with high end PCs, I doubt we get those. Xbox one and PS4 were underpowered from the start of last gen.

NeoGamer2321390d ago

With backwards compatibility I don't see there being generations anymore.

Every 3-5 years we just see new consoles and they just run everything already written. No need to call generations anymore.

starchild1390d ago

I hope they do have mid gen upgrades. Or maybe they won't even be considered "mid gen", we will just get new console hardware every few years. It was so nice getting the improved performance and graphics with my PS4 Pro.

Minute Man 7211391d ago (Edited 1391d ago )

Both systems thanks to the SSDs will be streaming graphics. It's gonna make a huge difference

I love how they say this every gen.

I’ve been waiting to be amazed since they launched it. Some beautiful games out there, but not mind blowing. Hopefully this year is better.

FinalBoss91d ago

It's still early days, most of the games that have already been released under UE5 were started under UE4.
The devs are going to get to grips with this new engine, and come up with some great games.

rlow191d ago (Edited 91d ago )

I know but it’s been a minute….lol

I just remember those Gears of War, Halo, God of War holy crap moments.

My guess, the engine takes longer to optimize and more manpower to do it right.

EvertonFC90d ago

Nxt gen, it's always the same until you actually get the OMFG new engine games. Might see some in 2026 though.

FinalBoss91d ago

In fact, one of the biggest advances in UE5 is the 'ease' with which content can be created.
Take a look at this video from 3:50 onwards, showing how the engine automatically generates the scenery.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

UE4 wasn't capable of that at this level. And the devs had to resort to all sorts of tricks to make quality procedural.
UE 5 greatly simplifies all that. In my opinion, games will take a different turn in the coming years.

rlow191d ago

Thanks for the link, will check it
Out.

PRIMORDUS91d ago

We need Unreal Tournament 5. If Epic won't touch it I would rather pay fans money to make it. Lately I'm having more respect for fans of games that mod and or do total conversions than the actual devs.

FinalBoss90d ago

Oh boy, I forgot about Unreal Tournament! Such a good idea!

Yes there is many indie solo dev that works on UE5 'remake' which are doing a great job.
Like OverJump Rally - remaster of Sega Rally 2.
And Shenmue, that is entirely remade by a dev in UE5 as well.
