CTO discusses UE5’s Nanite technology.
This next gen is just heating up. What we see at launch will pale in comparison in a year or two.
I feel this is correct. Look at horizon 2 now, imagine horizon 3! Hard I know.. But the only way is up!
Horizon is still stylized graphics. The detail in those crabs and shit by the water tho had me fuckin shook.
Does Horizon 2 use Unreal Engine though? I think Hellblade 2 will be the referent for this Engine in the near future.
“Does Horizon 2 use Unreal Engine though?“ Days Gone is one of the best looking games I’ve seen and it’s using UE. Can’t even imagine what the sequel will look like running on UE5.
@marquinho Nope, Horizon is using Decima engine, made by Guerilla themselves. Also used for Death Stranding BTW. Google Decima engine and some of the tech talks they made about it, great stuff!
Not only did Horizon use the Decima Engine, but when Kojima Productions made new modifications for the engine, these features were provided back to Guerrilla for their changes for the next generation. With Sony looking to purchase Leyou, the parent company of Digital Extremes, Splash Damage, and a couple of other companies and endeavors, the next gen is looking great for PlayStation.
I'm glad they've improved UE5 so much... I wonder how Gears, Hellblade 2 and those games at The Initiative, inXile, Playground Games and Obsidian will look like with all these bells and whistles. I'm seriously hyped here. 🤤 When/If this deal with PlayStation expires, we might see Epic praising Series X games as well.
Maybe that's the exact reason MS isn't doing any Series X Exclusive games yet and is instead making it all cross gen for about 2 years. No matter what, at the end of the day, these new machines should be able to do some pretty awesome things once devs have gotten over the learning curves.
It’s not all cross gen on Xbox. There are multiple games that are announced that are next gen only. Hellblade 2, the medium etc but they are not working on making a selection of their 1st party next gen (prob until unreal engine 5 gathers steam)
They are doing that for cheap developing. They have not included the base Xbox one in advertising for three years but yet still use the basic 1998 game engines to put lots of paint on said games while holding back advancements. It’s cheap. Sounds mean and biased... but true.
@rude, Are you talking about the launch Xbox one? You know they stopped manufacture those consoles after the Xbox One S version came out? They advertise the X1S all the time. Not sure what you're talking about in your second sentence. Are you referring to Halo? Please explain.
People took the 2 years cross gen too literal. Their will be next gen exclusives in the first two years. You will see majority being crossgen and support for last gen for the first 2 year then they'll stop all attention to last gen. That's what they meant.
Finally someone at EPIC remembered there's another console on the planet too... whose exclusives, ironically, will make use Epic's engine more than any others.
Didn't Days gone use Unreal Engine too? I'm sure the sequel will use Unreal Engine 5 not to mention some other exclusives.
Yes, and it looked good, but among Series X exclusives using UE you will have (for what I quickly remember) Hellbade 2 Everwild inXile Title The Initiative Title (Perfect Dark?) Playground Games Title (Fable?) Gears 6 New Double Fine game New Obsidian Game (consdering The Outer Worlds and Grounded use UE) Scorn (3rd party) That's a lot of Xbox Studios titles using UE... vs. only one (for now)
Damn, Epic praising PS5 has you struggling to sleep at night huh? It's a multiplatform engine. They aren't invested in the console wars like you are. Epic isn't looking at stuff from a exclusive vs exclusive stand point when it comes to UE5. A whole host of third parties will be using UE5 a lot of which will be running on both consoles, which pale in comparison to the single console only UE5 titles.
"Damn, Epic praising PS5 has you struggling to sleep at night huh?" Haha.. it's actually funny how some guys actually believe these things can be that important in one's life. I guess it is just you trying to mirror your feelings. All I'm saying is that a year from now, this deal with Sony will look silly when games start to speak by themselves... Nothing to lose your sleep for my friend. Actually, very few things are worth it =)
In an article that talks about both consoles in a positive light, you're focused on what they did/didn't say about your favorite console in the past. . . 🤷 Deal with Sony, but are mentioning SX. . . I'm mirroring my own feelings? . . . whatever makes you feel better =D
Well... I guess people around here take these things too seriously. Guess you answered the wrong guy ;) If you read again, with no hard feelings in mind, you'll notice it's just a regular comment... relevant to the subject and true to the truth. Peace =) P.S. You don't have to dislike my comment again, others like you will. That's how much we both care :D
"If you read again, with no hard feelings in mind, you'll notice it's just a regular comment... relevant to the subject and true to the truth." Well you sumned up what you were trying to say . . . : "All I'm saying is that a year from now, this deal with Sony will look silly when games start to speak by themselves" I mean, if that's relevant to both consoles achieving movie quality graphics next gen then I apologize. . . "P.S. You don't have to dislike my comment again, others like you will. That's how much we both care :D" I didn't hit the down vote/dislike/disagree on any of your comments, but the fact that you brought that up kinda goes against the notion that none of this stuff worries you. . . ;D
"I didn't hit the down vote/dislike/disagree on any of your comments, but the fact that you brought that up kinda goes against the notion that none of this stuff worries you. . . ;D" Then we're both talking to the wrong person 😂
They don’t call you captain obvious for nothing!
I've got no doubt both systems will knock it out the park, particularly with their first party titles. I'm going with Playstation purely based on the strength of their back catalogue. What I'm not looking forward to is the fanboys arguing over pixels and frame rates, things are going to get very toxic.
Yup in the end it is all about the games. No one does exclusives better than Sony. Ps is my choice for now, though I would really love for xbox to change my mind. I can't wait for the new God of War
I'm interested to see what the new Halo looks like, I've never been a big fan of the game but I have a feeling this one is going to be very impressive, also Hellblade which I'll admit I'm disappointed we wont be seeing on PS5. There will be a lot of eyes on the upcoming Xbox showcase that's for sure....
Yup. That's the reason I want to see more gameplay and less talks. Its surely gonna be an amazing next gen
They have already been toxic for a long time. What I'm really not excited for is the advantages or pros/cons of either new console to be minimized or maximized to dilute the truth.
I am hoping we don’t have mid gen upgrades because both machines are fairly evenly matched.
it was a great idea in the 8th gen .what was negative about it??
I like to have a good generation jump, mid gen to next gen isn’t as amazing as going from 1.3 TF to a 12tf.
"Great idea" is debatable but I really think they only existed this gen out of circumstantial necessity (systems were created weak to facilitate costs after a recession and 4k was just coming in big). They needed to future-proof their systems to hold out the generation. Something I don't see being the issue next gen.
Since both consoles are on par with high end PCs, I doubt we get those. Xbox one and PS4 were underpowered from the start of last gen.
With backwards compatibility I don't see there being generations anymore. Every 3-5 years we just see new consoles and they just run everything already written. No need to call generations anymore.
I hope they do have mid gen upgrades. Or maybe they won't even be considered "mid gen", we will just get new console hardware every few years. It was so nice getting the improved performance and graphics with my PS4 Pro.
Both systems thanks to the SSDs will be streaming graphics. It's gonna make a huge difference
I love how they say this every gen.
previous gens had some trailers to make people hyped for the new gen .killzone 2 e3 2005 was awesome and made me curious about next gen graphics and crysis was not even exagerating!in the 8th gen witcher 3 kinda did it and hyped me so much .but this gen we havent seen anything yet other than that ue5 tech demo.i need something crazy like that killzone 2 fake trailer .it was fake but made me crazy for next gen graphics and i enjoyed it .
Then you will love Hellblade2 which was also a fake trailer. Yet many see it and think that will be what the game looks like. Hopefully they, the devs, will get more out of EU5, but to expect anything along the lines of that trailer will leave many with disappointment. Can not wait till next gen is in full swing to see what first party and third parties will be capable of pulling off.
no that hellbalde trailer didnt have that effect.it must be a big franchise maybe a better trailer gameplay or whatever that makes fans crazy .there is still nothing like that killzone 2 or witcher 3 .i hope they show something crazy in the upcoming ps5 or xboxs coferences.
The unreal 5 tech looks incredible, and the frightening thing is this is a middle ware engine. Can only imagine what a custom engine from Naughty Dog will produce.
Cant wait to get both of them. Really saving for a 3090
Hell, look at some current gen games. Some games look close to movie quality, and they're running on 7 year old hardware that wasn't even that good to begin with.
Did EPIC mention XSx? MS must have given huge $ to EPIC to say this..
Looking forward to seeing what the many XGS using UE5 do with the engine. IMO, The Coalition already proved the best use case for UE4 in a game with Gears 5...can only imagine what they could do in the future.
"PS5 and Xbox Series X will achieve dream of ‘movie-quality graphics’, says Epic" - I rather have Dream Gameplay, f_ck those 30fps games.
Nice to ignore the PC, did Epic forget it can achieve this now ? LMAO and beyond once the new GPUs from Nvidia and AMD launch, though I'm pretty sure the Nvidia GPUs will be a bit more powerful than AMD's. Ah Epic, smh.
Don't want some movie quality graphics, I want some A.I advancements that provide immersion, graphics are good enough so stop focusing on it so much and focus on A.I like not combat A.I but actual A.I what brings immersion, nonhostile NPC, etc
I'm expecting that from Hellblade 2
Can't wait to see what kojima puts out for next gen. his games have always been ahead of the times graphically.
They say this every gen since ps2
PC. That is all. The hardware already exists... if these developers actually utilized the EXISTING hardware, we would see these leaps in graphical fidelity right now. Who cares about PS5 or Xbox X (or whatever it's called).
More pr bs talk the two sistem are underwhelming weak old technology it's upsetting how people are falling for this bs. Surr minimum requirement to develop ateast for the Playstation will be 10tf and its a noticeable jump from one but technology now days have over 20 tf whoever has a half brain now that it cost little extra to manufacture 10tf or 20tf but companies love giving us technology very slowly so they can brag about a upgrade soon after in casi tech doesn't advance much. It's stupid
One more so than the other but yeah
You can’t focus on movie level graphics with ps1 game mechanics. You can’t make your game look like a movie and still have the character not react in a natural way when running into walls or spinning the character in circles, etc.
Hum! Epic remembered there are other consoles...
While both systems are gonna be amazing, "movie quality graphics" is propaganda.
Ppl will need serous resources to beef up Thier rig. I predict consoles to surpass what you find on Steam uplay origin gog
They've been saying this since the PS1.
In all honesty they said this last gen.
