Animal Crossing New Horizons is Overrated

While a well-made game, Animal Crossing New Horizons is vastly overrated compared to other nintendo titles.

I think vgculturehq.com is overrated.

This is representative of so many childish Nintendo fans. What a joke. "Your website is overrated"

You sure showed them! Every nintendo game is flawless and immune to criticism I guess.

Dont let us catch you criticising our sony games tho -n4g

King_Noctis1772d ago

Wait for the imminent "The Last of Us Part 2 is Overrated" article that will pop up after the game is released. I would love to see your comment on that article.

I have similar criticisms. When it first came out I would play every day for about the first two weeks, hours at a time. I put in a lot of time for two weeks - by my standards - and I didn’t time travel, so I just wasn’t progressing fast enough. After three weeks, I looked at my island and decided the game wasn’t rewarding the large amount of daily time I was putting into it. I slowly started playing less and less and less and less...

Obelisk921772d ago

That's very subjective.
Of course the game loses momentum after a while, but it's still my favourite Switch game at the moment.
Ironically, I think Mario Odyssey and Zelda are way less rewarding than Animal Crossing. In Animal Crossing the progression is slow, but at least you know what you're doing and that someday you'll be rewarded.

I just get fatigued. It happens every time i get a new AC. I poured hours and hours into the GC original, skipped Wild World, City Folk i hardly touched, New Leaf i put maybe 20 hours in it. New Horizons definitely held my attention the longest compared to the original, i played it every day for 2 months or so. Haven't touched it since.

I think my issue is that every villager feels the same. In the original every villager felt distinct with distinct lines and traits, some were hermits or just total asses and warming up to them was part of befriending them. Now everyones your friend off the bat and they all have something cute to say - just kind of predictable. Then the GC version also had those awesome NES games to find, and there's just no item in any game since that touches that kind of value/novelty of having a game within the game to play. What do i have to look forward to stumbling upon in NH other than a nice couch or arcade cabinet i can't play.

Zodiac1772d ago

Definitely agree about the items. I can’t interact with anything or any setup I make. Obviously the ultimate goal is to create these amazing islands that I see online, and I definitely want to. I just don’t know if I have/want to put in the time to get the bells and miles required to do it, you know?

I have 3 lazy villagers and they all say the same thing to me, it's annoying.

I hate the fact you can't move your Plaza aswell, mine is like one spot off centre and it's driving my OCD off the charts.

I find it odd that in Happy Home Designer, villagers would interact with things you've laid out, but in this game none of the villagers interact with anything other than sitting down on chairs.

*deleted. saw i already replied to you lol

Exactly what's happened to me

I love Animal Crossing but Nintendo never add enough to it to keep me interested for a longer period of time, they seem to add cool new things but take things out while also making out that you can be super creative then putting in restrictions.

People will say "bu bu but, the reason it lacks stuff is because the game is supposed to be a slow burn"

No, you are supposed to add onto what came before and the updates should be brand new stuff, I'm waiting for Brewster, the Observatory, Tortimer, Museum Gift shop, Gracie, more Nook shop upgrades, Dr Shrunk, Katrina the fortune teller and so on...guess what? They are ALL old features from the past games.

Zodiac1771d ago

its just TOO slow a burn for me. I like the game, I really do. When I'm really feeling AC, its just tons of fun, but I want to be able to invest time in other games...or my Master's thesis lmao and still feel I can make some progress on my island. Idk why its so hard to include those items you listed either.

The game is really polished, but there IS room for more content. I doubt the hardware is being pushed there.

TheProfessional1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

Couldnt agree more, simplistic gameplay, no direction whatsoever and a terrible camera system. Being "relaxing" does not make it some masterpiece. Nintendo exclusives always get over-inflated review scores. That's why their full priced "remasters" of wii u games with barely any improvements still get 9's.

Edgelordsupreme1772d ago

No Nintendo game has reached the dizzying highs of Knack 2.

Ricegum1772d ago

Haha that made me laugh. Knack was just too ahead of its time.

Obelisk921772d ago

Knack 2 BABY!!!! We want Knack HD remaster on the Switch NOW.

Good-Smurf1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

Don't bring my past with MK8 Deluxe man that was some desperate time for racing fans I have to make do with overpriced remaster.
Never again the only time I will buy remastered game if they have to price it right not full or over full price.

King_Noctis1772d ago

"Couldnt agree more, simplistic gameplay, no direction whatsoever"

Do you even know what an Animal Crossing game (or a life sim genre for that matter) is about?

What Wii-U ports got 9’s outside Mario Kart which had new content and the Bayonetta 1/2 package?

I've stopped playing completely now, since end of May. Sick of just the two shops and travelling sellers.

telekineticmantis1772d ago

Cuteness eventually wore off huh?

CDbiggen1772d ago

Nah, still cute. Just done everything.

ninsigma1772d ago

It's a fun game but it needs serious quality of life changes like that mocked up video someone made a while ago. A big thing for me after having played stardew valley and new horizons is that I much prefer the game to be paused when it's off like in stardew rather than real time like AC.

-Foxtrot1772d ago

It's funny how that mock up video shows things we're all thinking but Nintendo couldn't figure this out when play testing, like some of the decisions made in the game are mind boggling. Are they seriously saying when they were play testing the game, playing as they were going in development they didn't find it annoying having to craft one item at a time instead of bulk crafting, getting the same recipes or being able to eat multiple things at once.
