It's less than 1 and more than 2. Faster games get benefit more from ssd as you will see from GT7. More detail on screen and smoother movement.

According to the Dirt's developer in this news, the game will not have ZERO load screen on XSX!
"Obviously, that SSD drive is incredible. It’s not like a PC SSD, it’s more than that. Being able to load data so ridiculously fast is not only really impressive but as a developer, it’s very interesting.

For Dirt 5, we’re going to be able to get into races super fast. It means NO LOADING SCREENS getting in the way, no dawdling, no looking at my phone, it means that the action will be non-stop."

I will take framerate and resolution over a few seconds of load time every time.

But, to be honest load times will matter in some games probably. So, there is the raw performance advantage for GPU/CPU and some memory for XSX, but the much higher raw performance of PS5 SSD will also have advantages in certain situations.

Good to see both are competing hard with each other. It is spurring further innovation.

Its just a racing game and going to be a good one at that. But give me 120fps on open world and intensively graphical games then it will be something to be impressed about. It doesn't take much to get high frame rates from racing games.

I'm well aware of that and I stand by what I say. Its really not impressive for a racing game to be at a high frame rate. That's easier then more complex open world games.

@ThinkThink: yes Driveclub was 30fps, a launch title. Why don't you go all the devs...oh wait...

@Prince Ali: I don't need to have intricate knowledge on game development. Its harder to get that kind of framerate in a complex open world game (AC Valhalla for example). Let me see that kind of framerate in something similar on scale to Cyberpunk 2077, then we will talk. Beside later on this year PC will be ahead yet again in terms of raw power

@itsmebryan: no just being honest. I have nothing against the Xbox. I owe a powerful PC and just not impressed with the amount of 120fps games so far. Then again it is very early so ill preserve judgement until MS shows more.

I think most devs will. Its already very similar to the xbox one development kits. and this new one actually works with developing games for xb1 and series consoles. it was gone into more in the video interview that these questions and answers came from.

Games that is able to run @ high frame rate with all graphics settings max out usually mean it is not really a demanding game, and the devs did not really pushed the hardware to it's limit.

If a game is only able to run on an RTX 2080 TI @ 1080p @ 60fps tops. that game would count as a limit pusher.

Regardless of the settings if it can run @ 120hz on xbox series x, this means there is still room for the devs to pack in graphics effects to the point where the game would only run @ 60fps, because of the graphics demand. that is what I think pushing the limit means. But certainly higher framerate demands more and is also essentially pushing the gpu and the cpu to its limits.

But going by your logic you are saying that developers should just keep the current gen graphics and old gen graphics and just push the fps to 120hz.

Well xbox fanboys are going to be playing a lot of outdated old gen games at 4k@120hz. if they are happy with that then so be it. BC of old gen games @ 4k@ high frame rate is definitely a good showcase of pushing the xbox series x to its limits I'm happy for the xbox fanboys.

The ssd is so fast it can “load a frame of data, and by mid frame use the data, dump it and load more”.

I get that the Sony ssd is faster, but if the series x is this fast and gets double the ps5 compression rates it doesn’t even matter. If the series x drive is according to this “fast enough to be used as memory” then m not sure how much faster you have to be because that’s instantaneous.... and it can run dirt 5 at 120 FPS “with little optimizing”. Extra cpu speed memory speed and gpu cu’s at work there.

The industry hasn’t been able to max out bandwidth of a standard SSD yet. If we say the current standard bandwidth is 550mb/s. I think the maximum that’s been achieved so far is 300 something. That’s not even in the same realm of standard NVME never mind these custom console versions.

We’re at an age now where consoles must have SSD’s installed to keep relevant with new technology NVME etc. If you have to put an SSD in your console. If you don’t make SSD’s yourself why pay a premium to another company for them. Make a proprietary version of your own therefore you can charge more to cover your R&D and not have to pay the premium to another company.

The SSD’s hype has been pushed way out of control to build hype. It’s going to be awesome to see the end of load times but the SSD’s for both consoles are overkill. One is not going to blow the other away.

Of course a racer will run at 120 frames, maybe even higher. If they went at 60 frames this gen... cross gen game. Racers are less demanding. Everybody knows that. There no need of high raw power, lol. Consoles with jag cpu and average gpu were able to run great. Dirt 4 is excelent on the Xbox One...

120fps is too high a frame rate for long term use. The increase in power draw and fan noise I don't think overall strain on the system is worth it
