I'm going to keep saying it...Obsidian is going to be a problem next-gen! They continue to grow and expand and hire talented devs. AAA is the name of the game now with the resources and powerful hardware to pull it off.

Obscure_Observer1791d ago

WOW!

XGS is FIRE! Ninja Theory, InXile and Obsidian all made AAA studios under MS.

I´m sure the new AAA RPG from Obsidian is gonna be amazing!

Go Xbox Team!

timotim1791d ago

For sure. They already had the talent...already won countless awards for great games...now they have the quantity in staff to throw more man power at projects with the funding and support from Microsoft to realize their vision even more. Thats going to be a dangerous studio to contend with.

1Victor1789d ago

Till they do a actual AAA game under Microsoft with a ton of awards they’re not AAA 😂

1Victor1789d ago (Edited 1789d ago )

For those that disagree remember RARE anyway it’s good they got this guy to work their studio but let’s be real when was the last time someone care about a audio designer been hired. You guys are pumping this guy up like he’s going to make a sound only game and it will be amazing like Morgan Freeman doing a audio book of your favorite book.
Anyways time to go don’t respond I’m out on vacation 😂

pwnmaster30001789d ago (Edited 1789d ago )

Why would they be a problem, shouldn’t it be a good thing?

But it really shows how great Sony studios are when people get hyped when a worker from them move to another.
Good luck to him during this hard time.

neomahi1789d ago

I'm not at all worried. Microsoft have no idea what they're doing, they're inexperience in the gaming industry is going to drown Obsidian, but those that sold Obsidian made a lot of money and that's all they needed now they can go. Microsoft don't know what or who they're buying, they're just buying whoever is willing to sell that seems to have a reputation. Waste of money.

Edito1789d ago

And i'll say it again... Developers keep moving around since ever and Playstation is dominating for 25 year not just because of the developers but mostly because of the culture at Playstation, you can have the best developers, if the organization culture is of trust me ain't gonna work... Microsoft is hiring developers since ever but the Xbox culture hasn't changed that is why they are in the position they are...

Ceaser98573611789d ago

Congrats on the new jobs. What funny is i have seen Xbox fans trolling Sony games but instantly are way to happy when Sony devs moves on to Xbox studios. Lol!

Naughty dog are bleeding employees. They never had this problems before until Neil Druckman took over the Vice president role at Naughty Dog.

Nasdac1789d ago

People come and go all over the place. Naughty Dog staff are more than 500 employees, romany new talented persons to join in. SWS deliver talents anyway.

Games1st1789d ago

A lot of high profile people like Amy and Bruce left, due to 15+ hour crunch culture.

Rimeskeem1789d ago

I don't think you can consider it a problem until the quality of their games goes down

Mobzoozom1789d ago

Hope he does well, Obsidian could be legendary if given enough freedom and some animation practice.

...still better than a one time use code in a box.

Neonridr10h ago

people here forget that Sony sells Collector's Editions of games (God of War, Horizon, etc) that give you a steelbook with no disc. Just a code on a piece of paper. But because some 3rd party devs are choosing this route it's all Nintendo's fault.

Si-Fly9h ago

If the option was a physical cartridge or a game key card then that would be the best possible situation. However it’s looking increasingly like game key cards will totally phase out physical media and that is really disappointing. I have a huge physical Switch libary and was looking forward to doing the same for the Switch 2.

staticall7h ago

@Neonridr
But it was Nintendo, who introduced this game key thingy. So it's 100% their fault.

CrimsonWing6910h ago

Ironic coming from an ex-Ubisoft lead dev.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH10h ago

How so? Do you think devs have any say on how a game is distributed?

Neonridr10h ago

yes.. they could pay full price to put their games on a cartridge, or pay less and provide a digital code and save money.

Which do you think devs would opt for?

CrimsonWing6910h ago

It wasn’t about distribution… 🤦‍♂️

The irony being him criticizing what creates of the loss of making gaming feel “special.” You know, annual releases with a paint-by-number blue print, monetization, and in general just Ubisoft practices for the last decade.

Sorry that one went over your head.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH8h ago

Then maybe you should do a better job of making your point instead of readers assuming what you’re trying to say.

Muigi10h ago

Yet most games these days on Blu-ray's don’t even contain the full game or the game at all. But he wasn’t complaining when he was at Ubisoft tho.

Christopher10h ago

Kind of normal to not want to get fired for public complaints about your company, though.

Duke1910h ago

Buying a physical box, just to open it for a glorified QR code is a shitty practice but I can absolutely see it becoming the norm sadly.

The enjoyment of owning something physically is going away, now its just a paid trial of services you never really "own".

Neonridr10h ago

except this is still a physical cartridge that you have to put in your console. You just have to download the entire game. But instead of it just being a code in a box (which is a one time use), you could still sell this or lend it to your friend.

It's not great no, but it's nothing like what we had with some Switch games.

Duke199h ago

Fair, its better than a one time use code but it I agree with the point in the article. It still takes away from the overall experience (especially from a nostalgia perspective).

Neonridr7h ago

@Duke19 - I mean we have digital edition only consoles now from MS and Sony. That's ok?

Seems like this is just a physical vs digital conversation, you can't exactly single out Nintendo here as everyone seems to be doing it.

gold_drake9h ago

thisnis definitely gonna bite nintendo in the arse in some way.

kids mostly use the consoles and not all parents know what to do with it.

also, what if u dont or cant use wifi ? lol
