Don’t expect to see PS5 hardware yet, and why it doesn’t matter

I like the Dev Kit personally . It’s different and the way it’s designed looks like it’s great for cooling . It’s shaped like a V for 5 I assume . I don’t think that will be the exact design but something like it .

The Dev kit looked like something they'd show on wish or them old dvd players that tried to go futuristic looking whilst looking tacky.

Sony hasn't made a bad looking launch console though and have no doubt the tradition will continue

(My phobia of them has been diminished because of Farpoint VR and Skyrim VR.)

It'll crawl itself into your entertainment center, eat your previous consoles and assimilate the data for backwards compatibility and produce high quality new IPs from the waste. Also, dances and has it's own personality that you talk to with the controller which is also secretly a spider.

The Dual Sense might be a synonym of spider sense. Oh! Looks like Spider-Man 2 PS5 is confirmed.

Mr Marvel, more like most still haven't tried VR yet or can't afford it. Not because they're not interested. If a VR headset with controllers were something like $100-$150, tons would jump on it.

PSVR gamers know about Farpoint. I'd bet 95% know about it. But some would like to have an Aim to play it which is hard for some to get like moves are worldwide to get.

Absolutely loved farpoint. I’m honestly looking forward to PSVR2 the most. Can’t wait to see what they will do with it. The only downside is I no longer find it as enjoyable to play games regularly after playing in VR.

We're in June already. It would be a bit ridiculous to not show the console at the event.

If they don't show how it looks it'll leak in the upcoming weeks anyway with mass production starting up. I think they'll show it. Since Sony seemingly wants to emphasize games being played on real hardware it would be a good way to stress that point by having the console on stage.

The leak is a possibility, but if they're producing as few units as they let on, it may go into full-scale production at the same units per day/week (however they measure these things) as Xbox, for example, but not do so until later, so if the production doesn't start until July, they still have a month and a half before a leak becomes an inevitability.

Sony managed to create hype with just a logo, so I have no trouble believing that they can get away with holding off on showing us everything and still generate a ton of hype. I would very much like to see the system though, if Sony are willing to show it to us. If they don't, however, I'll just chalk that up to them having a strategy in place.

Yeah, they really ought to do something more creative, like calling their new system the PlayStation One, or the PlayStation Series P or even something "internationally friendly" like PlayStation Pii (we could abbreviate either of the latter two to PSP for short). There could even be a follow up called the Pii U! /s

Sony clearly operates on an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy, and while their system names aren't the most exciting, they've also avoided the dumb naming conventions of their rivals. Sure, you can criticize their unwillingness to even change the font of their logo, but that logo has become synonymous with PlayStation for so many years that they really don't need to. I'd much rather they concentrate on something of actual importance, such as delivering a solid product, and it sounds like they have. They do have a history of doing just that.

Also, I disagree. It's not so much the logo itself but what it represents. I can't possibly be alone in being hyped about a new PlayStation. That Sony can just slap a 5 on their existing logo is a testament to just how easily they can generate hype.

Tross, I don't disagree with you that their logo doesn't need a big change, and we're not talking about naming conventions. Of course calling it PS5 is a much better branding decision than changing it, no one is saying otherwise. But to say that people were so hyped over the logo isn't exactly the whole story.

The logic of this article makes zero sense.

How did they come to the conclusion that "This statement reads to be all about the games rather than console hardware itself". The statement doesn't say anything about software or hardware.

Honestly I wouldn't be so sure that we won't see hardware.

The plans have been provided to manufacturing plants as they would have to start ramping up production to hut a holiday deadline so if Sony doesn't show the console off the odds if the final design leaking like every unannounced device does will be very high.

In 2013 we saw the final ps4 design at E3 which took place on June of that year.
In 2005 the same thing occurred for the PS3.
In 2004 at E3 we saw the PSP revealed.
In 1999 the PS2 was revealed even earlier in March prior to launch at the Tokyo Game show.

I'd say we're in good viewing point for the hardware

It's funny because everyone keeps "caring" about what the consoles look like, I literally haven't looked at my PS4 Pro is a while and when I do it's to put my disc in. As long as it's not shaped like the xbox (tower) and more flat to fit underneath my TV i'm fine with it. Because at the end of the day, the games are the only thing that matter to me.
