Microsoft threw the towel already back in 2017 when they decide to call 100s of Steam PC games Xbox games! Let that one sink in...Xbox One has been on a drought of games since then, with some titles here and there.

Every year Sony has been serving games out like Mcdonald's constantly serving burgers on a busy day. The PS4 games are all fresh like a Big Mac to eat! There was so much good games on the menu like Killzone Shadowfall, Infamous Second Son, Order 1886, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, God Of War, Spiderman, Detroit, Days Gone, and so much more like Last Of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima(coming soon) fresh out the plastic! Every now and then Sony would have a value meal of discounted to free games every month! Sony serve millions everyday like Mcdonalds.

PS4 is clearly the winner this generation from the beginning and now to the end. PS4 was a winner as the most powerful based console and cheaper than the underpowered base Xbox One that was expensive! Microsoft's biggest embarrassment that tarnishes the legacy of OG Xbox and 360 that was great! Now Microsoft threw the towel making Xbox games payable on PC with better graphics and framerate! Now they are talking out of their butt saying that they are going to release 1000s of games to Series X! We all know those games are Steam PC games first and backward compatible games! Big Whoop!!!!

For there to be a war one company has to die or bow out. Sony is in the best position so they will not bow out. Nintendo is doing great so they won't leave, and MS is doing good enough that they are not going to leave (In fact, they have expanded their gaming presence with more studios).

Thats why their use to be console wars. Coleco, intellivision, Atari, and Sega... All released consoles and have bowed out at some point. Nintendo has been around the longest, Sony second longest, and MS third longest. But for the first generation ever we are entering with 3 console vendors that have not changed for over 20 years and now four generations.

Sony made a mistake thinking developers were ready for programming multiple cores with Cell instead of a powerful CPU and GPU like the old days. But they made GAMES that got them back into the race ending with TLofU. Funny thing is that developers had to learn to program for multiple cores anyway. Sony now just makes it easier to do so with PS4 and soon PS5..

Nintendo made a mistake about a tablet gaming controller. But turned it around and made a hybrid tablet console you take on the go. With games to back it up.

Microsoft as usual screws up, but doesn't know if they should abandon like always for the next thing. Or try to be like Nintendo's or Sony's previously successful strategies. Try to be like the Wii with Kinect. Try to be like PS2. Try to emulate PS3 "it only does everything" with "all in one." Try to create Sony's 1st party studios, GAMES and sharing of ideas like PS4. It's obvious. Only thing they come up with themselves is how to come up with new services. It's never ***GAMES*** to overcome their mistakes.

How is it that Sony can overcome. Nintendo can overcome. But Microsoft has to get passes and excuses?

@Apocalypse Just because Xbox never "won" doesn't take away from it being a successful brand. Both the original xbox and 360 were great consoles with tons of awesome games. The original Xbox didn't sell great, but most gamers recognize it as a good system with plenty of great exclusives. The 360 succeed where the original Xbox failed and gave Sony a run for it's money. Don really messed up the Xbox one and it took Phil an entire generation to fix the wrongs to make the Xbox one a serviceable console.
What makes you think MS got a pass this gen? They got crapped on throughout the entire generation, while every once-in-awhile getting props for stuff like BC and gamepass, but hardly compares to all the articles railing them.
Sony jumped on the motion control bandwagon just like MS did. Didn't Sony copy achievements with Trophies? Let's not forget party chat, PSN, built in harddrives? Sorry to disappoint you but all these companies get ideas from each other, Sony and Nintendo isn't above this.
Nintendo did learn from it's mistakes with the Wii U, but why don't you recognize MS has been doing the same with the Series X? Oh yes, because that would take away from your daily rant about xbox.

Europe, Japan, and the US are all that really matter as far as revenue goes. The fact that ps4 has outsold xb 2 to 1 and only out earned them by 3 billion USD last quarter shows this. I don't believe xbox will ever be first but I don't even think ms needs them to as they get so much more spent per customer to make up most of the hardware sales differences.

Sure, that helped them jump start their engines to full speed out of the gate. The amount of momentum Sony had at the start was propelled higher than it probably would have been due to being fueled by the exhaust fumes that MS sputtered out at the start.

But, it was MS dropping the ball almost every step of the way for years that kept them going, and then Sony just doing what they always do, but in the mean time, also reinforcing this idea that they deliver the goods consistently over the long term. This alone was probably Sony's biggest achievement in terms of marketing this gen, because it made tangible and very vocal what they are most known for. Delivering games. That was something I think most Sony fans felt, and sometimes expressed, but never to the levels that we saw it this gen, where it practically became a mantra in the community, and was a stark contrast to MS constant failures to deliver.

Sony didn't do much different than they ever have this gen. They made good games, marketed good games, released good games. It only seemed like they did more because MS did so little. But, in the long run, it wasn't Sony that did better because of this, because they would have done fine regardless. It was MS that was hurt more, because everything was made relative to the other, and that's what happens in a console war, and it backfired on MS, and the fan boys all gen.

May still not have beat Sony, and likely wouldn't, but it wouldn't be as bad as it was. I thought Spencer would do good, and even brought an X1 based on his enthusiasm, and knowing that he is actually a gamer and probably knew what the customers would want. But, in the end, he just turned out to be another MS errand boy, decimating MS own internal studios, only to have to rebuild them later because they came up with a service model that demanded they have a constant flow of mostly cheaply made games.

Except that’s exactly what happened. Xbox did far better than PlayStation last gen, since as stated Sony lost billions with PS3. Xbox presented DRM policies, no sharing games, and always online. Policies Sony then took out of their presentation after seeing the reaction. If Microsoft didn’t do that, then momentum would of carried over and it would of been a different gen. Compared to the games that came out for PS3, and the technology that PS3 had over the Xbox 360, there was nothing special this gen in any respect, and I would say that this was the case for both Xbox and Playstation. The only reason I can see, was the combination of the PS4 being more powerful and $100.00 cheaper at launch, combined with marketing and the disastrous Don Mattrick Xbox One reveal event at E3. PS4 won because of two things. Kinect fuck up (partially caused by Snowden revelations around the same time) and second hand gaming (microsoft had new DRM that stopped the reuse of preowned discs). You wont dig this up as easily after the fact but it's the forgotten truth.

That's why they won the war this gen. PS3 didnt win the previous gen either by the way. 360 did as anyone who actually played in that gen knows. Yeah Sony continued selling ps3s after the fact but by then it didnt matter because they weren't making as much money as the price of the console was way cheaper for the consumers. Gamers buying preowned games weren't bringing in massive revenue for playstation at that point.

PS5 and Xbox series X will come down to exclusives. We haven't seen what games Sony have yet. We dont know price either. Xbox only brought in BC because they lost this gen. Sony would have done it except PS3 was too expensive to include.

Because of the miscommunication and policies at the xbox one launch, it would always be playing catch up.

Hopefully this gen is a bit closer so both companies will try harder to keep at the top!!
