Its UE4's implementation of RT.

Prince-Ali1880d ago

Yeah.. But certain delusional fanboys were screaming that PS5 cant do real RT at all.

Fishy Fingers1880d ago (Edited 1880d ago )

Nobody (unless you listen to idiots?) said it "cant", rather it doesnt have dedicated hardware. So ray tracing will come at a cost to other GPU processes (check out GTX vs RTX benchmarks).

Ray tracing is not an all encompassing on/off feature, there are many different levels of application. You could implement RT on the Switch.

Software_Lover1880d ago (Edited 1880d ago )

Series X has dedicated ray tracing hardware. It will be less taxing to other components (cpu/gpu) when implemented on the X when compared to the ps5.

Ps5 can do it, but the hit to processing power will be costlier.

GTgamer1880d ago

Doesn't the PS5 also have dedicated ray tracing hardware

Destiny10801880d ago

Not only does the ps5 have dedicated ray tracing hardware, its actually a lot more accurate then the series X due to the much higher Clock speed of the GPU

sinspirit1880d ago (Edited 1880d ago )

@GTGamer

Indeed. It also has hardware for VRS, called primitive shaders. They also have a patent for VRS, which MS even notated in their own patent in order to state that their patent is indeed a different implementation and not derivative of it.
People will keep talking without understanding the core material by remembering a few hot terms they've read in headlines and other users words. Reminds me of the scene in Good Will Hunting when he schools the dude that doesn't really understand the book but remembers a few lines to sound smart and just feels obliged to bring it up to act big brain.

GTgamer1880d ago

@sinspirit
They must really think people are too stupid to do their own research 🙄 they keep spreading lies with no proof and expect us to run with it and this is why people on this site should stop speaking on things they don't know much less understand but I digress. Bunch of overnight devs on this site.

IRetrouk1880d ago (Edited 1880d ago )

The dev clearly states Ray-tracing🤦‍♂️
We already know its hardware based, what more do you guys need🙃

Bruh1880d ago

@Destiny1080

LOL that is absolutely the furthest thing from the truth. In reality the performance of ray tracing is not based on accuracy, that terminology makes no sense. Its about bounces and how many you can implement among a path or from lighting probes. In that space, having more CUs means more ROPs and thus much more capability in the hardware to be able to produce more bounces, at more frequent rates to get better RT performance. So having 52 CUs vs. 36 means the Xbox Series X is much more capable at ray tracing, no GPU overclock is going to fix that

sinspirit1880d ago (Edited 1880d ago )

@Bruh

That's a big stretch. CU's and ROP's are two different pieces of hardware. ROP's don't have a set number necessary for each CU across different architectures. PC hardware is typically same hardware, different cuts, and different yields that carry across tiers of hardware. Some are made totally different while others are from the same wafer despite having different capabilities. Basically, this is different for PC hardware where you must be comparing linear hardware numbers with higher tier cards. Consoles have their own specific chips with specific specs.

The PS5 will have as many ROPs as it was designed to have, and SX will do the same. They are the same architecture, but not the same manufacturing process. Similar? Yes. But, we don't know how many ROPs the PS5 will have if we know how many the SX has, and vice versa. It's not a fixed ratio here. For instance the XBox One versus the PS4. Significantly different ratio of CU's to ROP's.

And, we also don't know the specs of the ray-tracing hardware itself. Higher core-clock directly benefits *everything*. CU's have diminishing return if not fully utilized. Instructions per clock is extremely important for ray-tracing. CU's don't affect that so much. Especially with XBox not pushing for next gen support by having last gen games, and with devs surely worry about last gen, the CU's aren't going to be utilized a lot.

Zeref1879d ago (Edited 1879d ago )

Xbox Series X will be able to do raytracing better than PS5. It will be like 4K was this currentgen where PS4 Pro versions rarely hit native 4k.

Next gen you'll see some titles that will have Raytracing on Xbox but not on PS. Or if they do its with significantly lower graphics quality.

Update:
Holy shit there's some really stupid people here. Stop discussing things you have no clue about.

Fishy - the problem is - lies become fact when they're said often enough.

The killer is misinformation.

waverider1880d ago

Nice to ear! Very cool. Keep the good job

The only comment on here to do with the article and not someone spewing negative crap. Thanks.

Normal. New game for the PS5. The hate will come. Beside is talking about ray tracing on the ps5.... they got mad, because they think its exclusive for the series X. Like when they reveal this game is running at 4k60 frames. the hate was the same. They think the PS5 games will run at 1440p/30 frames. This are the same that think the gpu of the PS5 is RDNA -1, that it didnt had VRS, Zen2 and so on.

@oldboy

Don't deflect. I've talked highly on many of Sony's exclusives in the past. I have a PS4 in my house, while I don't have an Xbox. You just get really uptight because I think gamepass is a great service, and I don't just give Sony a pass when they do something worth calling out. I'm a gamer, and you're .... we'll just call it biased.

Because it's easier to implement, more time will be given to creation, art, new ideas, and from that more content. That's fabulous news for developers.

IRetrouk1879d ago

That's a good point, well put.

Dont understand the hate for this game. Are you guys really that insecure about an unknown developer making an PS exclusive? And who the hell cares if their other games have been medicore when maybe this one will deliver? Dont think its fair to judge just yet. There are many devs who have made medicore or really fucking bad games but still has a few golden ones.

waverider1880d ago

its because another game on PS5 that isnt on the series X. Like godfall. Just a reality check of the next gen. When you sell 110 + million consoles... Of course for them they are all bad, but that edge stuff they launch was amazing and sold what 100 copies... Beside its running at 4k60 frames, got ray tracing from a small studio...

Is it even exclusive? I thought it was a multiplat that was just starting with PS5 due to the team's small size.

Good to see the devs acknowledge it. Thoguht the gameplay was fun but I could really care less for Eve or any of the characters. Hopefully the sequel will give Eve actual personality.
