How Long to Beat Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Ever since the reveal of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, gamers were unable to comprehend how big this remake was going to be. Square Enix then revealed that this title would be part one of a multi-part series of games.

"To break this down further, 25 hours if you just do the main story missions. 35 hours if you do some extra side missions, and over 45 hours if you want to do everything in the game. The majority of gamers should average around 32 hours."

So bascily the length of a full game, just as SE said.

King_Noctis1845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

That is kindda short by JRPG’s standard. But if they manage to make the story good without putting in too many fillers, I’d more than gladly accept that length.

kayoss1845d ago

Actually what you called fillers are not really fillers (ok there were some fillers). But the added content for this chapter goes into more depth of the FF7 lore. It explained some plot holes from the original and it also developed majority of the Villains more. I like the fact that they focused on developing Avalanche members. I think the majority of the fillers are great additions.

RpgSama1845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

I'd rather they do something like this than filling it up with filler quests, plus for me 55+ Hours it's a perfect amount of time, I wish I had the 150+ hours to platinum a game like Persona 5 Royal, but that for me and the time I have after work, after my kid, my wife and everything else would probably take me half a year.

kreate1845d ago

Is there a lot of grinding?

rainslacker1845d ago

Not really. Depends on if the JRPG is the grindy type or not. I've platinum my fair share of JRPGs and the trophy guides usually have 30-40 hours for games with a straight playthrough and clean up, sometimes assuming you are conscious of a potential missed trophy or not.

Games like Neptunia or atelier can be 60-100 though. But the main story of those games is still usually in the 20-30 range.

Maywell1844d ago

Short by JRPG's standard?

Many of the best of JRPGs is 20-30 hours long... it is normal actually for 1 walkthrough.

However, JRPGs have varied playtime, due to it's actually a plot-based game, with gameplays that could have many kind of variations which makes it varied in playtime

King_Noctis1844d ago

“ Many of the best of JRPGs is 20-30 hours long”

You are right, but there are also many great JRPG that are much longer than that, for example (according to HowLongToBeat, main story only):

Persona 5: 97 hours
Xenoblade Chronicle: 68 hours
Dragon Quest XI: 57 hours
Tales of Beseria: 44 hours

Mr_Writer851844d ago (Edited 1844d ago )

@king

Depends how you look at it, this isn't the full game, but it's the first part, the first part maybe shorter than "standard JRPGs", but it's much much more beefier than any other episodic games.

If this in 3 parts and each part is 45 hours long to do everything that's 135 hours potentially.

King_Noctis1844d ago

“ Depends how you look at it, this isn't the full game, but it's the first part,”

But they charge full price, $60. Other episodic games don’t charge full price for each episode. Even if this game end up having around 100 hours of gameplay, you gonna have to pay $60 at least three time, making the full experience costing up to $180.

TheGamez1001845d ago

Which is what Im expecting. Thats pretty much the standard for ff games nowadays lol. Sad cuz games like persona and tales last much longer. Lets just hope its a great 25 or so hrs.

giovonni1845d ago

Do they still have all the trimmings from the original?

rainslacker1845d ago

Majority of gamers never finish games, so not sure how the author came to their conclusion. But I doubt those people are the ones acting like this is only a partial game.

Germaximus1845d ago

Not in comparison to the original which was about a minimum of 50 hours.

Kados1845d ago

The original could be beat in ~35 hours. 45 if you did everything, including grinding all characters to 99. FFIX was around 25 for the main story. This is about average by PS1 FF standards.

goldwyncq1845d ago

The original took me 35 hours to beat so you’re way off.

Mr_Writer851844d ago

"Not in comparison to the original which was about a minimum of 50 hours"

So the first part of a remake of the original is 25-35/40 hours long and the same part which this is based on took you 50?

Remember this isn't the full game, this is the first part, the first part is 25 hours at least, assuming this is a 3 parter at least, that another 50 hours AT MINIMUM.

So you're right it's not an comparison the remake blows the original out of the water.

ashcroft1844d ago (Edited 1844d ago )

People need to stop saying this isn't a full game. The FF7 you know is not the same as the remake is a reimagining, certain plot points and scenes remain to please the veteran fans, but the story changes substantially past the halfway point of the game.

FF7 is now a series, not one game. Who knows, Episode 4 could be called Crisis Core.

Germaximus1844d ago

That's an excellent point, Mr_Writer85. Thanks for reminding me of that. Although, that also reminds me that we're paying more for the actual full game than before. And of course, this mini-series probably costs way more than the original one game so I don't mind.

dumahim1845d ago

The Kotaku review claims to have finished with all sidequests in something like 37 hours.

CaptainOmega1844d ago (Edited 1844d ago )

So we are basing "full game" by how many hours it takes to beat it?

By all intents and purposes, FF7 Remake is so far not a "full game". It's part of one.

Imagine playing Skyrim and the game ends when you finish your initial dragon born training. Sure there are many various side quests and collectibiies in that region but it's not a "full" game. Not in the slightest.

Lighter91845d ago

How would we know? This is about 1/3 of the entire game, right?

CrimsonWing691845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

I think it’s safe to presume that each installment will be around the 30 hour mark. I suspect it’ll be a trilogy and there will be the inevitable “Complete” edition that’ll clock you in 80-90 hours to rush through just the main story add 15-20 hours extra for all the side content.

Not a bad amount of game if you ask me.

You can beat the original in about 30-40 hours and that’s the whole game if you just go through the story beats.

RpgSama1845d ago

Final Fantasy IX has a trophy where you need to get to the endgame within 12 hours, so you can certainly take your time or rush through everything.

Tross1844d ago

Indeed. If there's a complete set down the road and it comes in a nice box, I'll definitely have to get the physical edition.

RosweeSon1843d ago

Not that’s a bad amount of game once it’s complete and like you say they’ll no doubt do a GOTY edition or bundle all 3? Together but when majority of people have paid a minimum of £40 for part one sure it’s the size of some games but it’s a fraction of the full final fantasy 7 game more to the point the full final fantasy 7 remake gonna set you back minimum £120?! Day1 for bog standard editions just sounds like a bit of a rip to me they wanted to break it down and make multiple collectors editions and I think the fans are just so happy to see it remade properly after all these years that they’ll pay at any cost. Waiting for a GOTY/complete bundle myself, admittedly not a massive FF fan did play a chuck of original FF7 back in the day tho but yeah just seems like they gone a bit the hobbit on it (making the smallest book in the particular series into 3 films?!) 💰 does look pretty impressive tho these games did always push the boundary for visuals on ps1 and FFX on ps2

harmny1845d ago

1/3? More like 1/10. This is just midgar

wwinterj1845d ago

The thing is this remake isn't a 100% recreation so judging what this game only is when comparing to the original seems pointless.

dumahim1845d ago

I don't think the rest will be as stretched out.

Eamon1845d ago

Yeh, in the original game, Midgar could be completed in like 4 hours for first-timers and 2 hours for veterans.

FF7 Remake is most likely going to be a trilogy. The 2nd game will probably be open-world similar to FF15 but with numerous towns, dungeons and locations scattered around. I suspect the 2nd game will end at the Ancient Temple where [spoiler] occurs and is also the end of Disc 1 of the original. The third game will combine Discs 2&3 together. (Disc 3 only had the final dungeon so it's much shorter than Discs 1 and 2).

Artemidorus1845d ago

That's the question I wanted, seems ok to me

jznrpg1845d ago (Edited 1845d ago )

Longer the better for me . I’ll do everything possible In this game !!

snake-OO1845d ago

The original game could be completed in 30 - 40 hours . I. Remember doing that the first time I players the game 20 years ago . Now that’s the full storyline .
And this at minimum is 25 hours for A third of the story .

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit12312350d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

fr0sty260d ago

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle260d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

gleepot260d ago

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
