Final Fantasy 7 Remake Changes One of the Original's Most Iconic Scenes, And Not for the Better

What Cloud's first meeting with Aerith says about the differences between the remake and the original.

SegaSaturn6691664d ago

I agree 100% with the statement about how populated Midgar is here. In the original, it was like the city was locked down/ under martial law to deal with the terrorists.

naruga1664d ago (Edited 1664d ago )

i agree about the article s opinion...such artistic moments (Cloud /Aeris random but destined 1st meeting) are rare anymore and remakes tend to ruin them 90 % of the time ..

Eamon1664d ago (Edited 1664d ago )

Well, this is a reactor exploding. Even under martial law, there'd be rescue workers. Maybe reporters on the scene is a bit of a stretch. Midgar is far from a democracy.

I think we should remember that technological limitations would have played a role in the scenario brainstorming back then. Maybe we didn't see huge amounts of carnage because it was a PS1 game. Cutscenes were mainly simple low-polygon animations over pre-rendered backgrounds and voiceless speech bubbles.

I disagree with the author about Aerith flower scene being one of the most iconic. I didn't even remember who Aerith was after you meet her for the second time. Probably because the flower purchase scene was so brief as well as the low-polygon Aerith.

I'd say Cloud waking up in the patch of flowers after falling into the church is far more memorable. It occurs after a dramatic moment and properly introduces Aerith this time.

As for the 'dementors' in the remake, I'm also unsure about them. Kitase and Nomura have said that they're an important addition to the storyline but I'm still skeptical. My prediction is that they will make the 'Reunion' event a bit more realistic. When you're suddenly seeing hooded cloaks everywhere in Nibelheim, and Cloud's party are just reacting too normal around them, it felt pretty out of place.

rainslacker1664d ago

In the first game, the attack had just happened, and in this game, the demo didnt show enough of the scene to really make a judgement about what is happening.

Oh, and midgar is a large metropolis. They can make it an active city now, whole on ps1 that was limited.

From what little was shown, it did look like the martial law was just starting. All those soldiers taking to the street and all that. Just like the original where you could farm these guys indefinitely if you wanted to

I think I’ll just refrain from reading about ff7 until I play it. I don’t care about nostalgia goggles and comparisons to the original game.

It’s gonna be a long month...

CptDville1664d ago

This is a remake, not a remaster. Enough said.

i think people are really just trying to find every little detail andcomplain about it. i wont he reading these things anymore, cause they're kinda spoilery anyways. i play the original atleast once a year but if things change, i dont wanna be spoiled by someome trying to tear it apart.

Games journalists need those clicks for their websites.

Spenok1664d ago

... every website in existence needs those clicks...

rainslacker1664d ago

Clouds hair has more spikes in it. Game sucks.

That's basically how it goes...and of course if one person mentions it, it means "fans are furious"

"What Cloud's first meeting with Aerith says about the differences between the remake and the original."

they changed that too. dang. :( remakes are hit and miss at times. hopefully they retain as much of the dialog options.
that was the most memorable part of FFVII to me.

Spenok1664d ago

It's a remake, not a remaster. I.E. there WILL be differences. Hell, they have even confirmed many things have changed. Just the very fact Sephiroth is in Midgar is a huge difference.

This Guy Rebuilt The Original Final Fantasy 7 In LittleBigPlanet 2, And It's Awesome

Nearly 27 years after the original game's release, Final Fantasy 7 superfan Jamie Colliver has finished his magnum opus: A shot-for-shot remake of the original PlayStation 1 game, created entirely via LittleBigPlanet 2. The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle46d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.

No mention of fixing the audio issues the dialogue audio is too low this has been reported many times on social media the volume has to be turned up and music has to be lowered to hear the characters properly :(

Babadook7110d ago

I have a question as someone who is considering buying the game soon. Is this a fixable issue? Can you just lower the volume for music and sound effects and keep dialog at default?

shadowT110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

yes, it is no issue at all. Just go into settings. Do you have already played the first Remake or the OG?

M3talDiamond110d ago

There are a few youtube videos and reddit tips with some tips on fixing the sound issues but sadly they didnt work for me

M3talDiamond110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

@Babadook7 There are a few videos on youtube with tips on how to fix the dialogue audio this but sadly they didnt work for me. There is an option to lower the music and sfx and keep the dialogue audio at 10 but you have to keep the volume up high (well for my TV I do) but when you are in battles and cutscenes the audio is higher so you have to adjust the audio again.
@shadowT The audio issues doesnt affect everyone there are some people on reddit complaining about the audio and there are other people saying they dont have any issues at all. I think it depends on the TV I have a Samsung QLED 4K and FF7 Rebirth is the only game I have audio issues with.

Babadook7110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

Thanks for the answers all.

@Shadow yeah I have the Remake and finished it and loved it (loved the OG also back in the day). My understanding is this is even better than Remake.

Yes Tonberry is terrifying..

MeteorPanda141d ago

The way it was handled was so dumb. One shots in melee...your teammates are to ostupid to get away from its attack. So you most often end up alone in a certain fight.

Hofstaderman141d ago

Two words, one accessory....Safety Bit

MeteorPanda141d ago

Needing an accessory to keep a.i from dying and only one of them isnt great.
