A frustrated FIFA 21 player has taken to twitter to calculate the true cost, in pounds spent or hours invested to obtain his Ultimate Team. Spoilers, it's one hell of an investment. In this opinion piece we examine the increasing practice of dressing gambling up as microtransactions, and the recent developments in Europe and the World to combat this insidious maleficence.

Don't get me wrong. You can get a decent team by just playing. I have done this my self. Buy I agree to even get just one of these icons it's going to take such a grind to the point where even playing at intended is just not fun anymore or spending such a large amount of money.

Activision Blizzard celebrates success The corona pandemic is named as one of the factors for the increasing value of the company.
That is such a crazy amount of money. Good for them i guess?
"In its most recent financial quarter, the company made $ 1.2 billion from pure microtransactions, which was more than half of total revenue"
This does not bode well.
Didn't they laid off devs last year???? From how Activision started in the 80s to what they have become it's an embarrassment but money talks
According to its developers, (Toys for Bob) Crash Bandicoot 4 will not feature microtransactions, despite the x-box storefront suggesting that it would contain “in-game-purchases”. Game Luster’s Rhiannon Bevan isn’t convinced due to publisher Activison’s track record. In this article, Rhiannon details the reasons for her concern.
Even if not there at launch, they will most likely add them in with an update, just like ctr, wont be a day 1 this time.
I dunno about that.... if you don't have time to put 100s of hours into an experience based tier system but want a specific customization, wouldn't it be easier to pay $3 and get it? Then there's the COD model where you can pay more to skip 20 tiers... that's not better by any means. Sure, the overall idea is better than random loot boxes, but I'd rather pay a little for each customization and save myself the time.
For F2P games sure, but regular progression of unlocking gear by earning XP and choosing what to unlock is still best by far
What’s even better is a game that ships as a complete package you know finished. I don’t mind DLC Done well free is a bonus but burnout paradise had the best and they only charged for the extra island due to EAs involvement... GTA4 has great dlc sure it was paid but great value for money. GTA5 had masses of post launch content, it’s still getting it now, all for free. These companies just breaking up bits of games and drip feeding it at a later day for a price. Proper con
Any form of monetization in 60 dollar priced games can all fuck off. There's nothing convincing me that they're needed, just shady practices to milk more money out of people. If you believe otherwise then you're an idiot, and I'm not sorry for thinking you are.
Yup, paying $20 every 2-3 months for a chance to get premium items after putting in hundreds of playtime hours is definitely better just paying a one time charge for the one or two items you actually want. Think of the sense of pride and accomplishment you get out of giving devs more money for something you already paid for!
