I have to agree on reno, his new hair is awful. A lot of the tweaks for designs arent the best.

Artistically, The hair is near on parallel to every render SE has made in the last decade and half. Since it's movie.
Not many may appreciate the switch from anime to CG I'm guessing. The original game did however feature near realistic CG for its time. The new characters are made to only match the realistic environments. While still retaining some of their iconic anime traits.
The characters look a lot like the movie and CG renders. I wasn't expecting much change in the art direction from the movie. The characters seemed to have reached perfection from the artists.
