My guess is a new updated Switch as well as some new games. Probably just before PS5 and Xbox Series X launches. I'm going to maybe guess a slightly more powerful CPU/GPU and possibly 1080p in handheld mode this time. I know I will trade mine in for a newer one :D

Nintendo never drop another variation of a system after they just did one

At least make a post that have a little sense to it

indysurfn1970d ago

Nintendo has not been announcing games way ahead of time for two years now. People where saying 2019 looked bare because of the lack of announced games. And it turned out to be the largest AAA game lineup since it has been out. Infact, it lead all consoles in the number of AAA games this year. When will article writters catch on?

Besides I vote for golden sun and bravely II.

XxINFERNUSxX1970d ago

Nintendo will most likely will drop a newer system. If you paid attention to the 3DS' life span Gemmol you will see how many iterations they released. While your at it look at the plain old DS, how many versions of that system they released. I do make sense unlike you, shit bag.

I read your second response and it stil had little common sense

If you did look at their handhelds after a revision they don’t make changes for another 3 to 4 years, that would mean 2023 to 2024

Please just use common sense

Games wise will be the same old. I doubt there will be any big surprises ie new ip or anything. Zelda will be out end of year, doubtful a new mario, maybe a 2d one. Metroid is long away and might get bayonetta 3 at a push.

I do think they need some new revision of the hardware to continue interest that will go over to new consoles.

“ I doubt there will be any big surprises ie new ip or anything”

Yeah, we all saw the announcement of games like Astral Chain or Deadly Premonition 2 coming from a mile away.

Fraggle19871969d ago

Yeah they werent good surprises ultimately. Im talking about quality software.

Astral Chain got 87 on Metacrtic. Luigi Mansion 3 got 86. Super Mario Maker 2 got 88. Fire Emblem Three Houses got 89. Zelda Remake got 87. All those games were released this year mind you.

So you think Nintendo is gonna drastically drop in quality of their titles? You’re surely kidding yourself.

We’ll get a direct in either January or February and we’ll see what they have planned for 2020.

I wish they would make a real console to compete with ps5 and Xbox sX. Since those days are gone, however, I expect we’ll see an updated switch that will still mostly be the same switch - maybe a better battery or a different screen or better joycon or something - or a pro version that can actually run things in 900p-1080p (now that 4K is pretty common)... Or another handheld. Not holding my breath for anything I’ll be interested in personally.

Gemmol1971d ago

I prefer hybrid system which I play mostly in handheld mode

If it was only tied to the tv I probably play less games

WickedLester1970d ago

Unless you're a 10 year old who rides in the back of your parent's car or has long commutes to and from work using public transportation, I simply do not understand why anyone actually prefers to play Switch in handheld mode over docked to their TV. I literally see no advantage to it.

Gemmol1969d ago

@wicked

Sounds like you the kid, you could not think of anything else beside calling me 10 and saying I ride behind in my parents car

“ I wish they would make a real console to compete with ps5 and Xbox sX”

We already have both the PS5 and Xbox SX, so why do we need another similar console? Why can’t we have variation in our consoles and our games?

VariantAEC1969d ago

Because people would like to see Nintendo at their best for a change.

Being real BoTW - outside of allowing players to climb practically anything - offered literally nothing new. The story was also basically non-existent the world empty and quiet outside of some small battles with a few AI at a time. The world wasn't really even THAT large, but it was pretty big for their first real foray into a 3D open-world game (unless there's something I'm forgetting).

Super Mario Odyssey looks fun but for me outside of MK8D and SMO there's not much to be excited about and I think I'd be disappointed in the games (I've not played a Nintendo home console since Wii or even seen a Switch unit in person up close and why would I need to? There's nothing on the system that I want to play and can't already play elsewhere with better visuals and smoother performance. It still is a system for Nintendo 1st party games and a couple of niche JRPG and Japanese action titles.

I also have a laptop and smartphone that covers most other Switch and Xbox One 3rd party games that peak my interest. Sunset Overdrive is on PC now, Asphalt 9 is also on PC and Mobile and GRID is on PC, PS3/X360, Switch and mobile! Basically all 3rd party games on Switch and XO can be best enjoyed elsewhere. If I were getting a Switch for a child I certainly wouldn't be buying them TW3, Bayonetta, Doom ('16) or Wolfenstein and that's probably why these games don't sell. The system is great for young children and preteens.

What is the point of Switch for working adults? None, unless you have tons of down time and aren't at home and even then PS4 has you covered with Remote Play. PC has remote streaming, but it's a convoluted mess to use in any official capacity making PS4 the default streaming option and this feature will probably be in PS5 too.

There's plenty of exclusives on Switch but with all the hardware problems and Joy-Con drift that still hasn't been remedied. I can say I wouldn't buy one myself. Honestly I'm getting a lot of Vita vibes from Switch. Don't get me wrong I used the Vita for nearly everything daily at home, but when the games stopped coming in I slowly drifted away from it after eating through the backlog there was nothing that drew me back in. Eventually I started playing on my 3DS again for a few while before beating Nintendo's Easy games and then I dropped it coldly and upgraded to the N3DS for SNES games. I still have my Vita and N3DS but I only play GB and SNES games on the N3DS these days which isn't saying good things about Nintendo's newer games.

I like some frustration, it makes me feel like I earned something. Nintendo gave that to players back in the 80's (before they were even making home consoles of their own) and 90's, but not really since the GameCube. Some N64 games were a bit too easy and even the original Pokémon games were very easy. Nintendo gears it's hardware and software for younger crowds and that was fine for me when I was a kid and that is still fine for most kids today. Make no mistake Nintendo's core is still children. Switch was advertised to hipster adults and is doing well probably in spite of that.

Switch is not a console for seasoned gamers who are looking for decent challenges. Collectors and enthusiasts with money to burn will pick them up; some will burn out or age out and most don't keep their old hardware which tells me the hardware wasn't worth saving.
But I digress.

“ Switch is not a console for seasoned gamers who are looking for decent challenges. ”

Again, don’t we have the PS4/Xbox One for that? Why do we again need another one that does everything the same to those two?

“If I were getting a Switch for a child I certainly wouldn't be buying them TW3, Bayonetta, Doom ('16) or Wolfenstein and that's probably why these games don't sell. The system is great for young children and preteens.”

So you said the Switch is not for season gamers, but then listed 4 games which are all rated For mature audiences. Ok....

“ What is the point of Switch for working adults? None, unless you have tons of down time and aren't at home and even then PS4 has you covered with Remote Play”

So instead of getting one console for everything, you prefer to get two, and one with streaming at that. Aren’t we hating on streaming? And do you even know what the “Switch” name mean?

“ Super Mario Odyssey looks fun but for me outside of MK8D and SMO there's not much to be excited about and I think I'd be disappointed in the games.

Smash? Splatoon? Arms? Xenoblade? Astral Chain? BoTW? Luigi Mansion 3? Fire Emblem 3 Houses? Zelda Remake? Are you seriously just ignoring those games?
