Odd. I was under the impression that they had upgraded the visuals since the 2015 reveal, but these new images look like garbage in comparison. The textural detail has been completely neutered, they are very blurry, and the overall image is slightly washed out. Metallic objects look like plastic now.

Hopefully they port it to the PS5 and restore the original visual quality.

Kind of makes you wonder if it really was "in game" at first. I mean, if it were it should match as it wouldn't have been changed (since it was already done). Unless I'm missing something. Then again, looking at trailers and things elsewhere they don't look "bad" like the new set of pictures. Maybe whoever took those took bad ones.

I've been keeping in the dark about this game so haven't seen this until now

these screens appear to be from a compressed video.
it wouldn't surprise me though of a definitive release to be at a later point.
judging by how most artists these days work on uncompressed assets by default.

Some slight changes made here and there. Cloud though changed for the better.

WTF are you talking about? The visual look just as good if not better.

Kados2020d ago (Edited 2020d ago )

This is what happens when you forget to put your glasses on.

The first image of the eye is the only one of the 4 main comparisons, where the new could possibly be seen as being better, but even then the eye looks like a polished chunk of quartz, not a human eye. The human eye does not reflect like that. Detail is a split, with the old image showing hair follicles and a bit of oilyness on the bridge of the nose that are no longer visible, while the new image shows some dimples that were not visible in the old image. It appears to mostly be due to the major changes in lighting in this scene though.

The second image, the lighting is better in the new image, but the textures on the outfits are completely plastic looking. It looks like a cutscene from a PS1 game, with no textural detail at all.

The third image is the most obvious downgrade, with Wedge's pauldron and gun looking like plastic toys. Again near zero texture. The 2015 image the pauldron actually looks like worn metal, and you can clearly see the rivets. The new image, the rivets are barely visible, and there is a very noticeable blur over it. The leather straps on his armor looked like actual full grain leather in the 2015 image, while they are very smoothed over and lacking detail in the new image. Clouds sweater is also washed out and lacking detail now. Even the lighting in the old image looks better here, due to how washed out everything is. The only upgrade here is Clouds face and hair.

The fourth image, it is harder to tell as the blur is so heavy on the 2019 image. But you can still see a substantial loss of texture detail on the clothing and armor.

The image of Aerith at the end is the only real upgrade. They actually removed DoF on it, which is nice. But this is only May-Dec of this year, not 2015.

Well that’s a little disappointing. Still looks good though and without the comparison shots I’d have never known.

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit123123112d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle322d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
