New Left 4 Dead Game Reportedly In Development

Valve is ready to resurrect a number of its long-dormant franchises, it seems.

For those that missed the big news last month, the publisher confirmed, following a number of leaks, that its iconic Half-Life series is finally set to receive its first release since 2007’s Episode Two expansion. Much to the surprise – and disbelief, considering how long fans have been waiting – of many, the reveal didn’t come in the form of Half-Life 3, but a spinoff title developed exclusively for virtual reality, no less.

I wonder if it's the rumoured L4D VR game.

Shuckylad350d ago

To fast paced for VR IMO. A full AAA L4D3 is what’s needed.

Neonridr350d ago

Serious Sam worked perfectly fine in VR.

This is one game I never got a chance to play, and after time has passed idk what the community is looking like...

D__RAiL350d ago

Why are you getting down voted thats exactly what the game is. Valve has two other big VR titles and this is one and probably a original one or Team Fortress VR after.

Neonridr350d ago

1) people don't like VR around here because those who don't enjoy it / embrace it miss out
2) people don't like me because I support both Nintendo and Sony and let's be real, this is N4G.

gazgriff2k12350d ago

hopefully its potal VR not team fortress VR

That's weird, my comment disappeared! Very odd, isn't it gangsta?

I serially hope so, too! L4D is a great co-op game!

OG_TK_Cole351d ago

If this is that VR Game they have been whispering about, the Gaming Community is going to be pissed.

D__RAiL350d ago

its exactly what it is...there is plenty of games like this now anyway ...go play GTFO or Vermintide ...its 100 percent a VR game.

Dom_Estos350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

F*ck em, then.

I'd rather a dev take risks and do what they want, than pander to the lowest common denominator. I mean, just look at the state of the so called "AAA" space now. The recent COD fiasco is proof its f*cked and will only get worse. People want more of that boring, cynical shit? They can keep it. Meanwhile I look forward to see what Valve does with VR, as they seem intent on actually pushing this tired industry forward.

FlyingFoxy351d ago

VR is not the problem, it's whether the game can be played by VR and none VR players is the question. Alienating players from a multiplayer game would be a mistake unless they want a small online player base.. Which I'm guessing they don't.

D__RAiL350d ago

VR adoption rate is through the roof just in the past month...i expect it to continue and it will sell atleast 2 million copies the first week...so yeah plenty of players

mandingo350d ago

VR just isn’t ready yet. It’s cool from what I played but the visuals are so paired back compared to console or pc It’s tough to really get immersed. Just make it for console, pc, and vr boom everyone is happy. Why have ass it.

-Foxtrot351d ago

VR? Are they taking the p***, especially after Half Life...

If true then I don’t understand why people can’t grasp why people are so ticked off.

VR should be an option so all fans can enjoy, we’ve waited long enough.

Guess Portal 3 and TF3 will be VR aswell...sigh

gangsta_red351d ago

If this is the case then Valve is definitely trying to push VR by giving the titles everyone has been waiting for specifically to VR.

Shame.

"If true then I don’t understand why people can’t grasp why people are so ticked off."

Dozens of AAA non-VR games release every year, but all of a sudden VR gets one exclusive AAA game and people lose their shit over it. It's about time a studio, like Valve, stepped up to create high end games built from the ground up for this platform. Disagree? Then you can keep waiting.

-Foxtrot350d ago

And? People have been waiting for a new instalment of Valves big franchises for years...YEARS. We finally get them and it’s like “oh yeah sorry too bad, got to pay big bucks for a VR or tough shit”

If it was optional then fair enough but it’s not

If you don’t even want options then that’s beyond f****** selfish and highly unfair to the fans who have waited forever for Valve to make games again

All they need was one solid game but Half Life and now L4D where does it end.

So yeah f**** me for supporting them for years and just wanting an optional standard mode for their new games. How selfish am I huh 🙄

@-Foxtrot

"And? People have been waiting for a new instalment of Valves big franchises for years...YEARS. We finally get them and it’s like “oh yeah sorry too bad, got to pay big bucks for a VR or tough shit”

And? This isn't an argument. The game doesnt appeal to you, but you're trying claim you have some sort of entitlement because you thought your wallet earned you a direct line to Gabes office. I've likely given more money to Valve than you, so do I now have a more superior claim? Valve have always been more interested in making games that push gameplay boundaries, and if they feel their vision can only be realised through making a VR exclusive game then I'm more than interested.

"If you don’t even want options then that’s beyond f****** selfish"

Yeah, sorry but this argument doesnt work. You're basically on par with the person demanding FromSoftware sacrifice their vision in Souls-Likes by making an easy mode. Valves vision requires VR. Dont like it? Dont buy it. Simplez.

"So yeah f**** me for supporting them for years and just wanting an optional standard mode for their new games. How selfish am I huh 🙄"

Entitled*

Not everything has to appeal to you, but you're more than welcome to buy the game and make an informed/reasoned critique about how this game would've benefitted from a "standard mode".

-Foxtrot350d ago

Oh get the hell out of here with that crap

"entitled"

Really? Please look up the world and start using it properly

It would be totally different if it were free, you are acting like I'm saying get rid of VR because I don't want it when all I'm saying is "give everyone an option so everyone can enjoy it".

It's just selfish thinking from you to be honest.

TK-66350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

@-Foxtrot

"So yeah f**** me for supporting them for years and just wanting an optional standard mode for their new games.”

You fit the definition ^^^

Entitled: believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.

You're literally arguing that if someone has bought a lot of Valves products they deserve special treatment. You're demanding they cater to you because you've opened your wallet a lot for them. If you don't like the basic definitions of words in the English language then find a different language to speak.

"It's just selfish thinking from you to be honest."

The game is built from the ground up for VR. Demanding that Valve spend more time to make the game playable without the platform it was designed for is ridiculous. Requesting options is fine when the effort required is minimal; this is not one of those scenarios. Stop being selfish and demanding Valve alter their vision to cater to your stupid demands. If you don't like the vision you can say it, but don't bullshit in the thread and demand that developers change their entire product to make it so it appeals to you. It's like demanding every FPS have a TPS option BeCaUsE oPtIoNs ArE gOoD.

Not every game is made for you babe; just accept it.

Dom_Estos350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

And then add to the fact they moan that VR doesn't have any AAA games. They get the mother of all AAA games and they still bitch. Couldn't care less. VR is here now. It's everything it promised to be back in the early 90s and then some, and its here to stay, and no amount of crying will change that. I mean, just look at Foxtrot as a prime example. Crying his beans out over a game he's been waiting for as if he's the only one waiting for it. I've been waiting for it too. You want to play it? Cough up the dough and buy into a revolution, otherwise f*ck off and stop your crying.

Neonridr350d ago

@Foxtrot - the difference here is the game isn't being designed for anything but VR. They've been working on this game for years. The index is the perfect opportunity to showcase this game and to deliver on their vision.

Yeah it sucks, but what can you do? Valve has a shiny new piece of hardware that they need to convince people to buy. How do you do that? By releasing some big named games for it. Oculus did the same thing for their headset and they reaped the rewards.

This isn't Resident Evil 7 were the VR was an afterthought and just tacked on halfway through development. Valve wasn't designing a 2D Half Life game and then midway through decided to say "screw it" and make it VR only.
