The year 2019 is coming to a close. Ending another year, no, another decade of video gaming. And with a new decade just around the corner, it’s fitting that the industry will celebrate this new decade with new hardware. I probably know what some of you are thinking about.

I really want to know what's going on with docked vrr cause cyberpunk at 40 fps docked seems to be a choice driven by vrr
The recent PS5 price increases have proven that the old format of console generations are no longer viable for game companies.
It's greed. Next gen prices aren't gonna be much better. I won't be surprised if next gen games are at 80. Then Sony, MS and other devs will do the usually PR of the most powerful console ever or fastest SSD or whatever to "justify" the price hike.
They'll further push ppl to PC.
I find myself playing games on my pc more and more this generation. I have my PC which I built myself, hooked up to my 65 inch oled tv.
I got Indiana Jones for free with my gfx card, my steam library is 500+ deep. I’m only buying consoles at this point because of physical games. Once the consoles go all digital, I will just be a pc gamer, because I can build whatever I want, without any limitations.
It looks like we are going to a new video game crash like in te 80s. Games are going to cost too much, the PS6 and next Xbox will be a huge and costly dissapointment.
I’ve already decided that I won’t get a PS6 until the PS7 is released. That way the console will cheaper as will the games and most will be complete editions with all dlc.
I’m too old to be worrying about playing games as soon as they’re released, just so I can say I bought it day one. I will continue to play my last gen and vr games in the meantime as I wait for price drops. This will not push me towards PC gaming though.
"no longer viable" as the PS5 out paces the PS4 and that's before GTA6 releases. The Switch 2 will almost certainly be a smash hit also.
Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! Ryan and Max are back as they discuss what the Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing means for the eventual PlayStation 6 and next Xbox. Can any console going forward reach the same success as the original Switch? And for handheld gaming PC's and the Xbox handheld, can we expect those to cost $450+, just like the Switch 2? .
probably not much.
the new gen will have its big appeal for alot of people.
the big question will be if the dwitch 2 will be left behind by devs again due to the games being too demanding, again.
but, and ive said this before, nintendo will be fine without it.
their big selling point is nostalgia and people eat it up.
and thw handheld option, but we are yet to see how the battery life actually holds up.
doesn't even matter for me, because my Switch 1 was 80% a handheld system for me throughout its lifetime. PS5, then PS6 will continue to be my proper console, bc Nintendo will always stay gimped in that regard. With that said, I'm excited for the Switch 2's extra power solely as a handheld. I don't find the system price unreasonable, but I do find the game prices crazy.
The Switch 2 is, what, $629 CAD? I'm not paying that, I'll wait for a price drop. But I'm just wondering how expensive the next PS and Xbox are going to be. I'm definitely not buying them at launch.
This is where shit is just getting too expensive to be worth it for me. Smaller jumps in visuals each gen, poor quality games in general, many games broken or borderline unplayable on launch, mtx out the ass, higher game prices, etc. For me it's not worth paying so much more for so much less. I'll stick with PC where I have a higher cost but so much more utility and usability for the money.
Its interesting read and I agree the companies have different approach that we saw coming long ago already. However theres a lot of wishful thinking emphasized in the conclusion.
'There aren’t console gamers or PC Gamers. We are all gamers, period.'
Is just denying the facts with virtue signalling magic powder. We are all gamers doesn't contradict the tact that people have preferences and different approaches to playing video games even including on mobile phones. I see the so called 'console war' getting stronger than ever from the companies and even more so from gamers who started on all forum, discussion, youtube and social media, to push their own preferences and propaganda.
Console wars will never end
If you have a mind of your own there was never any console wars. No amount of trolling is going to move me from what I prefer. If my preference changes, the change was motivated by me and me alone. Not anyone talking negatively on my preferences.
"Console wars" ended a while ago. Once the "craze" element in gaming ended, the "wars" ended. Even in the 360 generation, gaming could still be seen in what i like to call, "the exciting" period where getting your ps2,GC,xbox,360,ps3 and wii was "exciting" and it just felt different.
However, you could even argue that it ended with Nintendo vs Sega. Can we really say there is a "war" between Sony and Microsoft when 3rd party games have been more or less the best selling, most popular and most memorable games on their platforms? Mario vs Sonic is the only real company battle there has really been.
The Console Wars are a relly fun way to troll many.
