From PSU: "In a time when text messaging and social media are often the preferred means of communication, it’s no surprise that online gaming has almost entirely replaced the more intimate days of couch co-op, LAN parties, or even going to an arcade. I completely get the attraction of online gaming, sometimes after a long day of work, I just want to unwind among the masses from the comfort of my recliner. However, every once in a while, it’s nice to get together in a more intimate setting with friends and relive the past when multiplayer only included the people in your living room."
Pure PlayStation: The MARS System is an interesting oddity in today’s day and age. Light gun peripherals or one of those controllers with twenty games that plug into the TV is more of a 90’s thing. I thought one would be crazy to release a similar device in the present what with all the home VR hardware, motion-controlled video games, and even handhelds like the Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita. I was fully expecting to receive a gimmicky piece of plastic in the mail that was trying to advertise itself as a “cheap” alternative compared to the new, fancy tech nowadays. While the MARS System won’t replace my PSVR, it shows that PDP is serious about carving out a piece of living room entertainment for itself. Even if the full launch experience is over $200 and contradicts its cost-effective selling point.
Pure PlayStation: The company behind the MARS light gun system, PDP, has announced that it will be releasing its new product on November 1st, with the MARS Starter Pack being the opening bundle.
Cool positive is that it's got that couch co-op thing going most of us miss. Light gun games are fun.
But truthfully, light gun games might not even sell now and should be in VR like House of Dead, Time Crisis, Virtual Cop, etc. And just ad multiplayer and cross play with PC and Quest.
The price is also almost half the price of PSVR with cheap games that are hard but fun like Crisis Vrigade. Or games like Mortal Blitz. Or multiplayer horde mode in Arizona Sunshine and co-op in Farpoint.
Hope it sells but that's a hard sell with no name games. Not even one arcade port of any light gun game.
Nice! I've been missing lightgun games. It would be great if we get a House of the Dead.
I love the light gun shooting genre, I've kept 5 CRT TVs in my home mostly because I didn't want to miss out on playing all the classic light gun shooters that aren't easily compatible on modern TVs.
But there are methods to make it work, there's a box called the 'lightgunverter' that allows you to attach a Wiimote to any classic light gun, and then you can play those games on your modern TV.
There recently was a kickstarter called the Sinden light gun which allows you to play all classic light gun shooters, including arcade-only games that never saw a home release on your PC without any sensor bars. The gun is almost complete should be shipped sometime around the end of the year.
Still have my PS3 with Time crisis, Dead storm pirates love it !!. Would love to see Sega, Namco bring VR shooters to PS4. Rush of blood on PSVR is amazing.
This is cool might have to grab two of these.
