The Last of Us is a perfect game and doesn't need a sequel

Naughty Dog was always going to make The Last of Us Part 2, but we wish they'd left the original well alone and moved on to something else.

I would say the last of us ended perfectly and could have been a stand alone and at the same time perfectly created an engrossing world that can be revisited at any time because there's so much that can be told.. I'm glad there's a sequel coming and this is ND we're talking about.

It ended wide open for a sequal. They didn't just look at that town, go there and live happily ever after. It's the end of the world. Anything could have happened between then and the years after. Ellie has grown a lot and become more hardened. She didn't do that by visiting that small town, happily drinking cups of tea for her teenage years. Roll on TLoU2!

Well regardless the second game will mess up the ending of the 1st game, because rather then being able to interpret the ending in different ways like so many did, its going to tell you instead (i mean Neil kinda already did that too). I never wanted a second one, literally the next week after beating the 1st. I wanted ND to keep moving from game to game, and throw that logo on it and get sales. I didnt want more Kratos and GoW either... but ill be damned if i didnt freaking love God of War and am excited to Last of Us part 2. Ultimately, I think Guerilla added to my next point as well with Horizon, as long as the devs are excited and all in on the game they are making, then we will receive an utterly phenomenal game, whether it be a sequel or new ip.

There were only two ways to look at it. 1: Ellie knew Joel was lying (I think most people thought that). Or 2: Ellie believed Joel.

While I loved the way the game ended, I always felt that it was left the way it was so that the story could be continued. Keep in mind that they are saying that The Last of Us Part 2 is not a sequel but a continuation of the story. I have complete faith in Naughty Dog.

This is interactive drama and Naughty Dog is the best in the business. TLoU was one of the most lauded games of all-time, of course it was going to get a sequel and ND can easily make the continuity work and literally make a superior game to the original.

This is a studio with FOUR hit IPs on their jacket, they aren't afraid of creating something new, but on the other hand, they created an incredibly rich and intriguing world on a new IP that sold 17 million units.

Bottom line, people are happy and TLoU II will be a great game.

Playing through the PS3 version right now for the first time if you can believe it. I bought the game back in 2012 as a download, and was just burned out on gaming at the time, and never went back to play it.

So far, i'm at the area where you meet up with Bill, and we just tried to get the car battery out of the armored truck in the schoolyard. Pretty intense game if I do say so myself. The first big group of infected you come up on in the game, while searching through the highrise towers, with the one clicker, where they are all really close together was pretty tough, but I've heard that is the toughest encounter in the game.

For the section with the generator just start the generator and run straignt for the door with the key card. No need to fight anyone. Ive done this method on all of my playthroughs even on grounded. No lost ammo or stress. Get the key card, start the generator, and run for the door!

There are a lot of difficult parts of the game. I am not sure what difficulty you are playing on so that will make a difference of course

The school is one of the most intense parts of the game once you get inside. On grounded mode, you can spend hours trying to figure out the best way to get through it...especially if you're low on supplies. The town I think is next for you, and that's pretty crazy. Then the winter section is kind of somber, but has some good parts to it. The final stage is like the school interior regardless of if you try to stealth it, or get noticed along the way.

I just made it into an area where you jump onto the elevator, and it goes crashing down. Found a generator, and then infected started rushing me, and one I got the generator started, 3 or 4 more infected come, including a big guy.....man this is crazy! I had to put it down for the night, and I'll start fresh tomorrow or the next day.

I dunno about that. The first game was about Joel's growth and return to humanity. Without that catalyst, it's hard to imagine that the story would be as powerful. Unless, he somehow redeemed Tess, and she was the focus of the story, but I didn't get the impression from her character that she needed redeeming.

I could see there being some story around Tommy and Joel, with Tommy growing as a character. Sure they could fit Bill and Tess into all that as well.

The problem was that the first game jumps from Joel being a legit person at the beginning to 20 years later and he's a scumbag, but you don't see that transition, you are just expected to accept it. We don't know why or how Joel got there. We are only left to assume it's because he lost Sarah, but without explanation we are just left assuming . It would be better to show it and make it more believable and empathetic.

Watching Joel became a broken man would undermine what they did in the 1st game IMO. We knew why he was broken. We saw why he was the way he was. That loss impacted him enough to make him into a bad person....although it's questionable if he was really bad. But he didn't really care about life in general, and had a hard time connecting to others.

The loss of his daughter was why he was the way he was, and it was the connection to another child that let him come back to being able to connect to someone again. It wasn't a complete reformation at the end of TLOU. It was just to show that he was now capable of connecting again. Hence, finding his way back to humanity.

I can't really see how it'd be that compelling to watch him just become a smuggler. What he was like to come back to a complacent normal isn't really that interesting to me. Not saying it couldn't be made more interesting, and ND could probably make it happen, just that I think that making him the focal point of the story would be maybe not be the best use of their time.

This I agree with. The only thing left for Joel and Ellie s story is what happens after Ellie learns that Joel lied. But that was better left unsaid. As our own minds will fill in the rest by remembering a time like that where we were lied too and how we reacted. That was the genius of the ending In TLOU.

Therefore a new story with all new characters would have been preferred.

I agree the first ended perfectly, even though I don't know if I'd call it a perfect game. It was about as close to perfection as one could expect nowadays(or in the days it released). It certainly met the criteria for being a GOTG, GOTY, and highly rated.

As far as a sequel....yeah, it doesn't need one. But doesn't mean a sequel is a bad thing. There is potential the sequel could fail to live up to the standards of the first in many ways, but Naughty Dog is a dev I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to. If it ends up failing the original, I'll express my concern then, not before.

I agree with this sentiment, but I also believe Part II could've had the potential to surpass TLoU if it hadn't gone full raging SJW with what they thought should be an important pillar of the game.

An emotional lesbian and her relationship (via the super necessary lip lock during the reveal)... yea that absolutely has a place in TLoU's gritty world. They didn't go ahead and make it an undertone, no they went and shoved it right into our faces.

I prefer the more visceral, raw, SJW-free narrative of the original, which won't be topped by this sequel.

I prefer when Joel's sexuality wasn't the forefront of the game, just a man who lost his family and his will to live, trying to find a reason to get up in the morning other than to simply survive.

Not a character who had such an unimportant, miniscule part of himself becoming the focal point of his identity and the game's narrative.
