Atelier Ryza, the twenty-first entry in Gust’s long-running Atelier series, tells the story of Reisalin Stout, a young girl living on the quiet island of Kurken who desperately dreams of escaping on far-flung adventures alongside her childhood friends Tao and Lent. Ryza lives on a farm with her stern, overbearing parents who try at every opportunity to stymie her dreams, preferring that she stay at home and live a quiet, simple and safe life.
Let's begin today's tale with something of an unorthodox comparison. You see, I recently watched a fantastic hentai series (stay with me, I promise it's relevant), inspired by the Atelier game series. It's called Rune's Pharmacy if you're interested. As I was watching, I couldn't help but find more relatability and likeability with protagonist Rune than I ever have with Atelier's protagonists.
The Japanese animation studio Liden Films (Senyu, Goblin Slayer) will be taking on the responsibility of adapting the 2019 video game entry into an anime. So far, some key art has been shared along with a teaser trailer. You can see the main cast of characters and a release date confirming it will drop at some point in 2023.
Combined shipments for Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout and Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy have surpassed 1.6 million units, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust announced.
