Unless you choose to select the harder difficulty modes (the best being "Death March") you probably won't bother with potions, oils and bombs which are all upgradable (decoctions are not oils but can be useful) such that the game effectively becomes a hack and slash adventure which IMHO makes the combat boring.

I found it was well worth upgrading your signs skills (blue) first followed by attack power skills (red) when you go to Skellige but one perk I strongly suggest selecting and equipping first is "gourmet" (part of the "white" skills) which allows you to consume one food/drink item and the effect lasts for 20 minutes. If you don't do this then expect to consume a huge amount of food.

Note1: Mutagens allow the player to increase the effectiveness of your skills and before you go to Skellige "red" mutagens are very difficult to find hence my suggestion of upgrading your signs first.

Note2: Personally I found the Alchemy Skills (green) not very useful but other players may disagree.

No matter what difficulty level you select you can always change it which "sort off" can be considered a cheat but since the game does not have an online component the only person you cheat is yourself. As I have said if you want to play a reasonably challenging and interesting game then select a harder difficulty mode and "don't" change it, after all, if you encounter a difficult enemy (and you will) you can always come back when you are stronger.

BTW. When you start the game I suggest selecting "The Witcher 2" setup then when you are getting a questioned during a shave (Royal Palace in Vizima ) you answer that all protagonists in "The Witcher 2" are still alive, you will get additional quests.

Hint: Being ethical can actually make friends and allies out of possible enemies.

-Don't use cheap whirl.

-Kill lots of grave hags. Their fighting style is easy to predict and they give a lot of xp. Just watch out for their flying mud balls they throw at you. Seriously that stuff will mess up your vision so bad haha!

-Be as virtuous/noble as possible when you get to Tousaint because you won't be able to get the best sword in the game (sort of) if you fail to qualify for all of Tousaint's virtues. So be respectful to that cheeky knight character when you do the tourney.

-Look up all the places of power right away and just get them. Don't bother looking for them, there are more of them spread out all over the place than you'd probably estimate so it's worth it to just mob up on them and cop them all faster sooner than later.

-Make sure you sell armor to armorors and swords to blacksmiths. Don't miss out on big money by selling to the wrong people.

-Never complete the "hard times" quest. Leave it unfinished. Don't ever let this blacksmith at Kaer Trolde find out about the bad news. He's really useful and he refuses to ever speak with you ever again if you complete that quest.

-Get dragon's dream and grapeshot bombs.

-Get Ydren magic trap ability.

-Upgrade your poison stuff. One can kill dudes 15 levels higher than they are just by poisoning them and then falling back and chilling in a safe corner for like a minute.

-There's a guy who will buy runes and the heads of slain monsters at a high price every 2 or 3 days right outside Novigrad. He might buy runes as well.

-Don't ever sell off any runes nor glyphs because you need them all for the runewright later on.

-Increase max toxicity level and do whatever it takes so one can drink as many friggin' potions and decoctions as possible. I remember it taking forever for me to finally be able to drink more than a single decoction at a time, but boy was I OP once I could down 3 or 4 at a time.

-Get alchemy perks that support a high toxicity level because it's good to have a high toxicity level in general so might as well benefit from it. Just be careful to not accidentally die from the toxicity.

-Get the white rafford potions.

-The giant spider enemies have the rare red mutagens.

-Get exploding quen or at least the health restorative quen it's super useful on Death March.

A switch 2 update might be a nice way to celebrate it for people who brought the switch 1 version

This is exactly what I was thinking too.

It will be for a price. unfortunately not like the PS5 where a majority of them were free.

anast27d ago

Cool, can we get a controller sensitivity option for the PS5? Geralt going full sprint when I barely touch the controller is keeping me from playing this game a 3rd time.

I would have included the Uncharted games as well. Good list though.

Island would be #1 but that would be anything from Frontwing.

Haha it is not lost on me that two of the games in the top four were already novels before they were games

Actually just picked this up yesterday on Steam, since it's $9.99 for the game and all the DLC. I've owned it for years on Playstation, but honestly never put a whole lot of time into it. Though I knew I had to play through it one day because I loved what I did play. It runs so buttery smooth on PC. Still a really beautiful game with everything maxed out settings-wise at 4K.

Damn man that’s a long ass wait for a game you were feeling good about. I beat it the first time over 9 years ago
