First photo of a ps5 dev kit

This is a tweet shown from an unknown developer. Developer kits are not intended to look like the final product.

Kribwalker2050d ago

i’m sorry, that’s hideous looking

THC CELL2050d ago

What ya want it to look like a birthday cake

Kribwalker2050d ago

would you want that to be sitting on your entertainment shelf? I’d like something that blends in a little more

Nyxus2050d ago

@ Kribwalker: why would a devkit be sitting on our entertainment shelf?

ApocalypseShadow2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

I'd put it on my shelf. I'm not playing the console. I'm playing The games.

And, with that space in the middle, I could put Sony's "Generation Eight Commemorative Platinum Trophy" win with matching Spider-Man action figure right next to it.

I wonder if there's enough room for the "Last of Us 20 Million+ Sold Trophy to sit in that space as well?

MasterCornholio2050d ago

@Krib

It says that it's a photo of a Dev kit.

-rolls eyes-

_SilverHawk_2050d ago

People complaining about the devkit reminds me of people playing the alpha of a game and saying its rubbish because of a few issues when it's not the final product

2050d ago
rainslacker2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

Looks like a V for the Roman numeral 5. Nit much different than how the first couple xboxes had some sort of x design o n then.

Thing the grates are for airflow out the front instead if the back, which works good when putting it in an entertainment center

It's a dev kit though. They're much bigger than the final product, and usually dont even have that much thought out into their styling

fr0sty2050d ago

I'd buy it just like that. It would look beautiful on my entertainment center. I don't want another DVD player or cable box sitting up there, that is boring.

That said, this is PS4's devkit.

Unspoken2050d ago

That is the ugliest console in the history of console. Sony wins again.

indysurfn2050d ago

Looks high tech! Not just for us software developers.

Knushwood Butt2050d ago

The only thing that would blend in on Krib's shelf is another xbox or a statue of Greenberg.

umair_s512049d ago

Yes, I hope the final version looks a lot better. I love the look of PS4 slim

mogwaii2049d ago

It actually kind of does....with a slice taken out, lol

umair_s512049d ago

Looks good considering it's a Dev kit. Want the final console to look better

TKCMuzzer2049d ago

He wants it to look like an Xbox.......................

S2Killinit2049d ago (Edited 2049d ago )

Xbox fans have been looking at their console waiting for a good game for so long they now think consoles are for looking at.

PS4 Dev Kit looked ugly too but that final design of the console turned out to be great.

battlegrog2050d ago

For sure but point is its the design still of what it will be. A v is not exactly blending in. I dont need a fashion statement

Kribwalker2050d ago

yeah, i’m just hoping this has nothing to do with its final form

kneon2050d ago

@Kribwalker

I wouldn't be surprised if the final product will have some sort of V built into the design since it's a PS5, But I'd be surprised if it were not far much smaller than the dev kit.

Ricegum2050d ago

Krib

Lets not pretend you're going to buy it anyway. Troll harder.

@ MrZay3949

that's for a "early" dev kit. final dev kits are closer.

SkatterBrain2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

OMG NOooooo it looks Cheezy it reminds me of Big Bad BeetleBorgs for some reason its. a Roman Numeral 5 and the other console look like elegant buildings it should look more like the Roman Colosseum it would fit in with the God of War vibe https://www.google.com/sear...

ziggurcat2050d ago

@tech:

The PS3 image is a TEST kit, which is different than a dev kit. Test kits are utilized by QA during the development cycle, and they are exact matches to the retail SKUs just with a bunch of extra debugging options.

@ above
"The PS3 image is a TEST kit, which is different than a dev kit."

"DECH" models are indeed dev kits. and yes final ps3 dev kits are close to final.

@tech:

No. You're 100% wrong. That's not even the dev kit SKU number. This is the SKU for PS3 dev kits: https://www.psdevwiki.com/p...

I worked in QA for 3 years, near the end of the PS3's cycle. The dev kits did not look like the retail consoles, only the test kits did. The links you posted are for Debugging Stations/Test Kits, not Dev Kits.

This was a PS3 dev kit:

And the PSOne you posted is a debugging station, not a dev kit:

This was the PSOne Dev kit:

DevilOgreFish2049d ago (Edited 2049d ago )

they're all dev kits. made at different points in time.
dev kits can also be made with specific tasks. doesn't change their function.
they're designed to access, deploy, program, or test.

Why do you care? It’s not like you have any interest in PS5. Slow news day for Xbox?

Anyhow it’s just a prototype. I’m sure the retail version will be much different.

Christopher2050d ago

Dev kits aren't made to be pretty.

Kribwalker2050d ago

agreed, i just hope it has nothing to do with it’s final design. I’d want something that blends right in

Atom6662050d ago

I've yet to hear from anyone with dev experience explain why this form is beneficial in any way. Typically you get a no-frills tower with the appropriate hookups and switches.

That's the input I'd like to hear. I'm at a loss as to why this form was patented. Is there some proprietary feature to this that we're not seeing?

I know you'd better not bring your morning coffee into the room where this thing is sitting!

rainslacker2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

@aton

The design helps with airflow to keep the system cool. Not sure if they've updated them, but the initial dev kits ran hot due to the early production if the chips not being as efficient as the final form factor. Apparently the hot air is blown out from the front, and pulled in from the sides. I imagine a regular box would work, but it has some sort of ducting system for the heat.

Its unknown if this same design will be adapted for the home market, but many of the inputs seen on the dev kit are things used for dev purposes.

Christopher2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

@Atom666: Tons of heat release region on top on multiple sides without being fully open vented to prevent dust setting. Also, taller spaces to help with air flow and cleaning in general. It also mimics the console design more appropriately whereas tower designs don't represent the standard airflow/heat management of a console device.

This is important because these dev kits, especially the early ones, get pushed pretty hard in testing and can generate a ton of heat. Those tests help to create standards for memory management and processing early on as well as help engine developers to create tools for specifically using their features without causing issues.

SkatterBrain2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

a Place To Flop Your TallyWacker on and make it warm on a cold day , DUH

Atom6662049d ago

Guess I just don't get why a tower with more air flow and a big ass fan/ cooling solution wouldn't be an easier option?

It looks like one of those hideous prototype models that were always drawn by various artists of what the next consoles would look like.

Funny how this is the "first photo" of the dev kit, but hasn't this image been used in other articles about PS5? I was expecting something completely different.

TheKingKratos2049d ago

Lol it's cute that i always see you two backing each other in comment section all the time

gangsta_red2049d ago

Two replies using the word "cute". I feel so cuddly inside.

NarutoFox2050d ago (Edited 2050d ago )

@Kribwalker
It's what's under the hood and devs kit aren't supposed to be pretty😁 but you shouldn't worry about the PS5 😊

JetP06192050d ago

Lmao @Kribwalker
Devkit doesnt mean final. but what do you know? all your comments are about hating on Sony's infrastructure, console and games, and high and mighty praises for the xbox one lol. Still will sell more than the next xbox :D id rather have that sit on my shelf than an actual box that has no exclusives.

Godmars2902050d ago

Its a dev kit. The retail version will be different, though certainly collectors will do everything they can to get one.

kneon2050d ago

This is a case of function over form. Do you see that little shelf surrounded by air vents? That is where the developer can put their coffee mug, all the hot air coming out will keep it warm while they work

UnSelf2050d ago

idc if it looked like plankton with a tumor. Ill buying it day -1

Mr_Writer852050d ago

Why do you care what a dev kit looks like?

F0XH0UND9222050d ago

You're not too bright, are you? You know a troll is running out of material when he has to bash the looks of a dev kit lmao

zahdab2050d ago

quick look at your comments history and i can see the reason for you logic

Ceaser98573612050d ago

Krib
Dude thats a dev kit.. So nobody cares what it looks like.. The Final product will look way too sexy.

frostypants2050d ago

Good thing it's a dev kit and not the consumer product. Dev kit design has exactly Jack and poop to do with what we'll be buying.

yoshatabi2049d ago

Can you not read? It says it's a Dev kit and it clearly states that it's not going to be for the customers

neutralgamer19922049d ago

Ps4 pro patent was perfect copy to release so I don't think major design will change

But sony will make it slimmer, shiny new toy look. Ports and stuff will be more aligned etc. BTW with next Gen consoles neonb powerful they need things to keep them running cool. I like this design if it means system heat up and loud air plane engine noise will be a thing of past

Artemidorus2049d ago

100% will not look like that.

DarXyde2049d ago

It.

Good grief, you're the worst. That's not what's going to be in a gamer's entertainment system.

Death end re;Quest Code Z (PS5) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Thomas Froehlicher: "Death end re;Quest Code Z marks a stunning comeback for Compile Heart and a treat for fans of the first game. Visually underwhelming and not very ambitious at first, it eventually boasts surprisingly complex rogue-like RPG mechanics and a compelling level of challenge. Compile Heart’s bold CERO Z bet makes no compromises in terms of gore and horror, making Code Z the hardline experience I really desired."
