I'm having fun with the Steam version. It's a beautiful game with a lot of details in the background. The characters have unique personalities and aren't just lifeless robots like some games. I have no knowledge of Doraemon and it's not necessary.

Waiting for friends of mineral town instead. Doraemon seems wierd lol but I may pick it up on sale.

This strangely is a lot of fun. I love it more than the past Story of Season games. This one has lot of likeable characters.

I played the japanese version some months ago. It had a lot of problems that were not bugs, but bad game design decisions, like upgrading tools being useless (for example, charging an upgraded tool was the same as using the tool the same amount of times as the charging, both in time and stamina spent, so there was no reason to upgrade). Oh, and the main quests to advance the plot weren't even displayed in the "quests" screen.

These kinds of problems are unforgivable for a company that invented the genre and (supposedly) has been refining it for decades. So I hope they made some good changes for the western release. I should play the japanese version again to see if they updated the game to an acceptable level.

It's good to note that given its lack of options and things to do when comparing to previous games in the Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon series and even to other games in this genre made by other people (like Stardew Valley), the game relies on the charm of Doraemon and its characters to attract gamers. If you aren't charmed by them, the game will just feel like a shallow and generally not very good common farming game.

As I explained in the article:
"Continuing with the series of best anime games, this list comprises titles based on manga or the anime of the game. Additionally, titles that went on to receive an anime, manga or a light novel adaptation are also qualified to appear on this list. However, games with an anime style that have no relation to a manga source or anime will not be included on this list."

Personally, It's confusing to call these titles "anime games" without having any connection with any source material. It's better to call them anime-styled games to clear any confusion.

Edit: the only exceptions here are Senran Kagura and Catherine since they've gone on to receive a manga adaptation. Hmmm, Clannad too since it's based on the manga. Other than that, these all fall into the anime-styled category :)

Yeah but tons of those titles received anime adaptations.

The Grisaia Trilogy
Clannad
Steins;Gate
Chaos;Head
Chaos;Child
Island
Senran Kagura
Persona 4
Persona 5
Witch on the Holy Night
Aokana: Four Rhythms Across the Blue
Nekopara
Little Busters!
Danganronpa

Or do you mean the opposite where it was an anime that got a game adaptation? There's very few examples of that such as Danmachi, Miss Kobyashi's Dragon Maid, Made in Abyss, Summer Time Rendering and theres around four Quintessential Quintuplets visual novels that sadly never got an English localization.

@yui-Suzumiya

Yes, that's what I meant. Anime shows that received a game adaptation. However, looking at the scarcity of some of them, I also included video games that eventually received an anime adaptation. E.g Monster Hunter Stories 2, .Hack GU, NieR Automata, Tales of Vesperia..etc. Frankly, I wasn't even aware of a Nekopara or Senran Kagura anime until you mentioned it. I was aware of a manga, though.

" and theres around four Quintessential Quintuplets visual novels that sadly never got an English localization."

Doesn't matter! If they're good, they're worth the mention (and to be played too if one can understand anything...). Thanks for the suggestions there, btw. My hope is to make the ultimate anime games list out there!

Doraemon Story of Seasons PS4 Review - PlayStation Universe

From PSU: "Doraemon Story of Seasons PS4 Review – Franchise mashups are always fun outings for fans of both franchises. With Doraemon, a long-running, beloved family-friendly manga and anime, and Story of Seasons, a beloved generation-spanning farming sim, mixing together, there’s a lot of room for excitement. At the same time, the history of this genre and the successes of more modern games leave a more-than-healthy level of competition to the formula. Does Doraemon Story of Seasons have what it takes to stand up to some of the more recent heavy hitters?"
