Gears 5 quitters are being banned for 640 days

Developer The Coalition isn’t taking kindly to Gears 5 quitters, throwing the ban hammer so hard and so far that it is hitting players for 640 days.

_SilverHawk_2069d ago

They should have had something to deter quitters from day one. I cant tell the last time I've played a proper game in gears 5 until the end that didn't have quitters

VenomUK2069d ago

If you’re playing multiplayer then it is annoying if people quit and potentially loses you the match. But 640 day bans are so beyond excessive. At times who, when playing multiplayer, hasn’t had to answer the door, or deal with a kid or a partner? This move could backfire, yes it will get rid of quitters but regular players too thus cultivating a loyal community that is small.

For persistent quitters I would have a system that tracks all players for quitting or being idle. If they are logged for being a quitter then inform about their behaviour with a warning message, then at the start of a day if they quit once ban them for 24 hours.

Clearly they enjoy the game but lack online manners, This way there’s a chance you can train them into becoming Better team players.

RosweeSon2068d ago

Which will probably leave them with no players by the end of the year 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷 🏻‍♂️😂

NarutoFox2068d ago

Hmmm I see a lot of trade ins after this 😁

bouzebbal2068d ago

Lol I quit playing fifa because of the quitters..640 days is a lot, I'd do it progressively

bluefox7552068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

@VenomUK Tbf, they are giving a warning. Although, such a hardline stance might decrease the lifespan of their MP. Sometimes people don't really have a choice. Probably would have been better to start with softer suspensions.

Pickledpepper2068d ago

@venom
If you've got kids then you should be paying attention to them instead of playing video games.
I used to be a hard-core gamer, 2 kids later it all stopped, 1 is 12yrs and the other 7yrs and they take all my time up when Iam not working.
Sometime when I do play video games it's always together and age appropriate, castle crash, mine craft, roblox, Mario kart.
The only time I get to game now is if I finish work before they finish school or the weekends when they are in bed.

Im surprised to hear that. I would say 80% of my games go fine. The other 20% someone quits or DC’s or idles. Which is still way too often imo. I dont have that problem on overwatch and it has more players.

RacerX2068d ago

What is it about the game that makes people want to quit during the match? That sounds like the real problem.

Concertoine2067d ago

@RacerX

If i had to guess, the skill ceiling on Gears is really high and if you dont put a lot of hours into it you will get bodied by good players which leads to frustration. Its not like COD or battlefield or even overwatch where you can pick it up and have a rough idea of how to play. Gears 5 in particular is frustrating because the weapon balance isnt quite right.

Another thing - gears is BIG in Mexico for some reason, always has been, and that can lead to connection issues when they get matched in US servers.

SpineSaw2069d ago

"They should have had something to deter quitters from day one"......I agree with this or ....
1-Ummmmm how about make a better game?
2- You purchase a game, any game you should be able to play it as you wish.
3- maybe some have internet issues. Not all that bail on a MP game are quitters.
4- the holier than thou crowd that exist in every MP game told them to leave or quit.
4-The Gears 5 developer should get off they're high horse IMO.

2069d ago
shiva12069d ago

So you talk as if there are no quitters in any multiplayer games in this industry.

I see the problem from casuals who dont understand the game but want to jumpin.... And then react like you did on this thread.

KwietStorm_BLM2069d ago

Is that list supposed to serious or you being sarcastic?

QuackShot2068d ago

@SpineSaw

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic because I don't believe anyone would post something this stupid, what's more worrying is the 9 people that have agreed with you :/

But just in case you're not I'd like to point out the flaws in your post

1-"Ummmmm how about make a better game?"

Gears 5 is currently sitting at 85 on Metacritic with an 8.6 user score.

2- "You purchase a game, any game you should be able to play it as you wish"

No. That's fine for single player games but not when the way you play affects other gamers in a negative way. By your logic cheats and hacks would also be acceptable because you're playing "As you wish".

3- "Maybe some have internet issues. Not all that bail on a MP game are quitters"

Again, why should other gamers be at the mercy of a players poor internet connection? If you have bad internet then I feel sorry for you, but if constant disconnects, lag and drop outs affect other players negatively then you should not play online until the issues are resolved.

4- "the holier than thou crowd that exist in every MP game told them to leave or quit"

This point is not even worth discussion. In thirty years of gaming not once has someone from the "Holier than Thou crowd" told me to leave or quit a game, here you're simply reaching.

4-"The Gears 5 developer should get off they're high horse IMO"

FYI - 5 comes after 4, however putting this aside is this really a point? It's their game, they own the servers and if they decide that quitters are affecting the enjoyment of other gamers then they are quite within their rights to impose whatever restrictions they deem fit.

TK-662068d ago

You can play a single player game however you like. You've basically advocated for cheating with point 2. You're either trolling or a dumbass. Quiting is not playing the game.

Platformgamer2068d ago

@cannofpoo it's ok at best

InUrFoxHole2068d ago

Gears 5 is fab? You are jk right? The ping is horrible and the campaign is buggy as hell.

MadLad2068d ago

Damn this was a lame response. So you don't like the game; that doesn't change the fact it's received pretty much across the board. There's only so many ways to address a multiplayer issue such as this. Many developers don't address it at all. The developer actually puts into place something to incentivize not bailing out of a game …. and your take on it is to *ahem* "get off they're high horse".

That's, uhhh; it's an interesting take.

ChristopherJack2068d ago

The coalition is a drugged horse?

2068d ago
jeromeface2068d ago

So make a quitters pool. after lets say 5 disconnects in a 30 day period you get your first warning and after 5 warns you are sent to the quitter pool for 30 days. 2nd visit gets you a 60 day visit... so on and so forth. Show them how their practices ruin gameplay by forcing them to be exposed to it.

I can't tell you the last time I played a game without people having 150+ ping. Here's a novel idea. Make a game that works properly

indysurfn2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Maybe they should have a quitters area. People that quit only get matched with other quitters. (Unless all eight others give them a pass). Once they learned there lesson they are allowed back with a modest rating. The reason being A baby/kid may have started doing something dangerous/SCREAMING. So they HAVE to quit. Maybe the smoke alarm went off. Some times life happens. Sometimes people are the quitters. Have a quitters area. Let them put up with themselves this is the way to get them to change. A 640 day ban? Most people are done with games near 2 years old. The next gears is coming in 2-3 years.

lodossrage2069d ago

I can understand punishing quitters on games, but 640 days? That feels too extensive to me. Again, I'm ok with punishing quitters, but they need something a little more reasonable.

The 640 day thing feels like something that should be given to cheaters or hackers. But that's just my opinion.

Sciurus_vulgaris2069d ago

Quitters can be banned for up to 640 days. Getting a 640 day ban would require excessive quitting.

lodossrage2069d ago

Ah I get you now. So basically you're saying you have to be a repeat offender. Makes more sense then

shiva12069d ago

I got the banhammer on halo 5. It was for frequent suicide on a particular map husky raid...i try ground pound but end up suciding. Ban is for 10 min and still i can play warzone during that time. But quitting is not ok and frequent qutting in ranked modes should have 640days or permenant ban...im fine with it.

Juiceid2069d ago

And quitting from ranked matches.

execution172068d ago

I believe it's because of excessive quitting during ranked matches since there was someone that quit like 18 out of 21-22 ranked matches in an hour

GottaBjimmyb2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Yea, people are acting like if you quit or get DCd from one game you get ban, quitting 1 game is 5 min, 2 in a row is 10. IDK after that, but if you quit more than 2 in a row, I have no real sympathy and it is only for comp matches, not quick.

Think the bigger issue is they don't have selectable play modes in quickmatches so you have to play comp to play certain or specific modes. Think that would be a better first step

Livingthedream2068d ago

@gotta the game tends to know if you get DC'D it will generally give you the option to jump back in the same game if it happens

TK-662068d ago

Dota 2 recently introduced an automatic mute on players below a certain behavior score and if during that period their behavior somehow gets worse they're perma-banned. I think this is great as it keeps those who're the typical culprits in the game from destroying teamwork by consistently flaming a single member of the team and thus removing the motivation of that player from playing their role.

This sort of thing is fine as long as their is good warnings given to the player in question so that if they continue this behavior they can't claim they didn't know they would be banned for it.

kayoss2069d ago

Well if you’re a legit player, enjoy not having these quitters ruining your experience. This will make sure they don’t quit.

2069d ago
MadLad2068d ago

@gahl

I mean, this is the sort of situation where the ban happens to, and gets more excessive for, repeat offenders. I would like to think there's at least a way to try and speak to support and explain the situation prior to, or even post, the ban.

Mopedgames2069d ago

How are they going to buy MT's?

TheColbertinator2069d ago

Sea of Thieves is available too.

MadLad2068d ago

What's innately wrong with throwing a couple extra bucks into a game you enjoy?

2068d ago
IRetrouk2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Or maybe it's the way they are implemented? Mts are fine on their own, if they are priced fair.
If you have to buy silly coins, iron or diamonds to get them, and also suffer a grind to get some of said silly currency or if you have to grind excessively to unlock what's hidden behind those mts then it's the wrong way..... especially in an AAA paid for game.

Majin-vegeta2069d ago

How do you tell the difference between someone quitting and someone losing connection?

Sgt_Slaughter2069d ago

That doesn't change anything, they can still get random disconnects added up over time and be penalized for doing nothing wrong

porkChop2069d ago

There is a big difference between someone being DC'd every once in a while and someone constantly quitting the game. The context is important. You're assuming they're just going to ban you once you hit some arbitrary number after a year's time.

rainslacker2068d ago

I'd normally agree with you, but, back when I was more into mmo's I had one ISP for a while that would just start being randomly flaky on the connection. Could run fine for a week, then suddenly I'd be disconnected repeatedly.

Might say that o shouldn't be playing online games if that's the case, to which I'd agree, but it may just randomly disconnect, and then no further problems, so it could be 3-4 disconnects before I'd give up. That could accumulate over time in a game and being banned for it would suck considering it was a game I paid for.

Anecdotal case of course, but just pointing out that not all frequent disconnects are due to quitting

ziggurcat2068d ago

Not everyone has the most reliable internet - should those people be punished because of that?

Easy. If I’m playing, the other team quits.

2069d ago
KwietStorm_BLM2069d ago

Quitting a game requires you to quit.

BEASELY2068d ago

Doesn't matter, if your net can't handle online gaming then you shouldnt be online gaming. Ruins the experience for those that have their life in order.
