The newest Mario Kart Tour update allows players to purchase Diddy Kong for a whopping $39.99, which is almost the same price as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Nintendo finally figured out mobile gaming. People don't want to pay a one time fee like with Super Mario Run. They want to be nickled and dimed. Just look at Dragalia Lost, FE Heroes and that AC game. All made more money than Super Mario Run. A game with no microtranactions and a game that failed as a negligible amount of people paid for the full game. $10 is apparently too much for one game outright but spending hundreds of dollars in another game over time is just right. Its crazy but that's what a lot of people who frequent smart devices want. They love the chase and are willing to spend money to get want they want faster even for things things that can be unlocked through normal gameplay. As a traditional gamer I never understand that but I also don't have a gambling problem. Its a shitty practice but I can't stop people from buying into it. If they want to blow their paychecks its on them. lol

I think the issue is we live in a time where people want everything now and not have to work for it. This is the same in gaming. People want the best guns, cars etc now not next week or to work for it.

But as you say its up to people on how they spend there money and if they want to do this on in game things they can. For me I like the satisfaction of earning my levels, cars, character, armour etc in games rather than just paying for them.

It should be noted that you're not just buying the character. You're also getting 90 rubies. If you were to buy 90 rubies in the quickest way, it would cost $50 for 93. The next step down is $27 for 48. So you could look at it like getting rubies for a discount as well as a character.

There are many characters you can buy in the shop with coins you earn in-game, but they know what they're doing, locking the characters people actually want behind these mega-packs. Rosalina is in one, as well, but hers is $20 (probably due to the fact that it gives exactly half the ruby amount as Diddy Kong).
