Death Stranding Will Take "a Lot of Time" To Complete, Says Kojima

Death Stranding might feel like a short game at first glance but it will take a lot of time to complete it.

I hope half of that time won't be spent walking aimlessly.

IRetrouk1663d ago (Edited 1663d ago )

That notion is dead and buried now I think, so far we seen a bike and a truck you can use, not to mention the hover sled, plenty to do besides walking...

goldwyncq1663d ago

I hope so. What concerns me is Kojima himself saying the game probably won't be fun until halfway through the story.

IRetrouk1663d ago (Edited 1663d ago )

seemed like he was talking about upgrades and the like unlocking as you play, much like other open world games, I have a funny feeling hes been trolling us the whole time, I don't think he has shown much at all really, character and inventory managment was the main bulk, with a bit of foot, vehicle and hoverboard action thrown in from part of one mission, I'd say there is a lot more there than we have seen, I'm genuinely excited to unwrap the puzzle man.

Well the main premise is to connect everything, that's the loop, not unlike a lot of open world games, hes already said there is other optional things to do including side missions and building, then you have the other side, the 2 or 3 different enemies, plus the story, what more do you need?
What kojima said about the game being fun sounds exactly how every open world game works, at first you know nothing and as you progress you learn and unlock more, this is easy stuff to find out man,

"Some people say it’s almost like the movie Alien, where you are gradually finding out what the whole world is about, what you can do and not do", Kojima explained. "Maybe it gets really fun when you have completed 50 percent of the game."

"The player, like in shooters and other genres, go into the game with a known rule and you think you know what a game is about. I didn’t want to have that feeling. Everyone should start from ground zero. Not knowing how to pick up and play the game. What I have shown makes you puzzled, but it all really makes sense when you play the game."

But to answer your question, I would trade it in and never buy another kojima game again, but I know that wont happen, kojima makes good games.

@ shaggy, What if, what if, what if. What if you just waited for reviews when the game comes out? Just what if you did that? I mean what if

Dont get the disagrees. Im quite on the fence on the game too with it being just an open world exploration walking sim. Something I always thought was boring in all open world games. I just want to get to the story. Why I always prefer more linear games. The game could be amazing or....horrible, we wont know yet. Dont overhype even if its a game done by some amazingly well known dev.

IRetrouk1662d ago

It's ok to be on the fence, but to call it a walking sim is not only giving this game a disservice but kojima too, especially after vehicles and such have been shown in use. You may think I'm overhyping, which I disagree with, I'm just showing my excitement for the game and explaining that there is far more there than just walking, we know kojima likes a good story, and we know he makes solid playing games and now has had the freedom to make something he truly wants to and not just another mgs. I don't think my excitement has shown over hype at all to be honest, not once have I called it game of the year or the best thing ever, it looks interesting and I want to dig in, like plenty of other games coming.

Walking sim... the same thing Xbox fanboys said about Hellblade until it released on their platform and Microsoft purchased Ninja Theory.

I feel quite sure there is much more to the game than meets the eye. I'm willing to bet on that. In case you're not sure who Kojima is...

He had people believe Solid Snake was the protagonist of MGS2 until people played it themselves.

Depending on your chosen option, he had you believe at the beginning of Snake Eater that you play as Raiden again.

MGS4 not only has you wanting to use Raiden at times, but the early trailers had you thinking there was a younger Snake.

P.t. was unclear that it was the next planned Silent Hill unless you beat it or saw the news.

MGSV was honestly just unheard of levels of trolling with regard to the protagonist.

My point is that Kojima is notorious for being "that guy". Sony isn't going to let him put out a game with such little activity on their dime. They're just not. I am sure it won't be for everyone, but it'll be a Kojima game, through and through. We've seen nothing yet, and that's a hill I'd die on, honestly.

Dragonscale1662d ago

Its not a walking sim fgs, thats fake news from a certain fanbase lol.

Z5011662d ago

"Kojima himself saying the game probably won't be fun until halfway through the story"

And yet he never said that. "Maybe as fun"

seanpitt231663d ago

If you have a full time job and commitments etc... Then this game might take along time to complete I just hope the time I invest is just not walking around place to place because I still havnt got a clue what you do in this game ... But we will see soon enough

first emulation, now this
even though I don't play Garry's Mod, it is still bad

Inverno23h ago

I was reading it's all just false reports from a troll who's done things like this in the past and not Nintendo themselves.

-Foxtrot14h ago

Well the games creator Gary Newman confirmed it himself on Twitter.

Seems that's still being debated.
