With the way Yo-kai Watch games sell these days it needs all the help it can get. This will be a good advertisement for the series. Whether or not it will help in the long run is another story.

Agreed. Yokai Watch is great but there's no denying that the hype has started to die down. Here's hoping this will help.

looking forward to this on the ps4

Wait, this is coming to the PS4? While the Earth is thrown off its axis, will the localizers stop pretending a concept rooted in Japanese mythology has nothing to do with Japan or am I asking for the moon here?

Well, according to Phoenix Wright the US has plenty of traditional Japanese villages that predate colonialism, so I see no reason to doubt that the country is full of mythical creatures loosely inspired by Japanese folklore either.

what the hell are you talking about my guy?

Tross1985d ago

I'm taking a shot at the 90s-style censor-everything-Japanese-and -change-the-setting-to-the-US type localization that largely fell out of practice by the 2000s but still persists in a select few IPs, but clearly it didn't land if you didn't get it.

Yo-Kai Watch is an interesting case as it's an IP that wasn't created until the 2010s, long after said localization practice generally fell out of use. Truth be told part of me has always found the type of "stylistic" localization intriguing, especially when great leaps of logic are used to try and sweep clearly Japanese things under the rug, although I'm glad this type of localization, which can be considered a form of censorship, isn't commonplace anymore.

I also brought up Phoenix Wright because it's the poster child for huge leaps in logic in the name of insisting the game is set in the US. Memes have been made about it, look them up.
