Destiny 2 preloading live on Steam ahead of transition, Shadowkeep expansion

Destiny 2 is going to have a big next couple of weeks as the game transitions from Battle.net to Steam, goes free-to-play, and sees the release of the Shadowkeep expansion.

To make the transition a little easier, Bungie announced today that pre-loading is now available on Steam. This should help ease pressure on their servers and frustration among fans looking to get in on all of the action.

The financial upkeep for Desiny is just too much, it feels like Destiny 2 is going to be a huge experiment both monetization and content wise until Destiny 3.

People paid $60 at launch, $30 for expansion pass, $40 for Forsaken, $25 for annual pass, another $40 for Shadowkeep on top of paying for every seasonal update going forward, a battle pass to grind and eververse microtransactions.

I know this franchise has its hooks deep in people, including me at one point, but they need to seriously refine their model for D3 before I'd consider going back.

I skipped spot of that, D2 didn't grab me the same way D1 did. Changes to crucible (4vs4), eververse and the changes to shaders didn't sit well with me.

I jumped back on recently, all the previous content has kept me and my mates busy. Very much looking forward to Shadowjeep and Armour 2.0.

But your absolutely right about the player investment and monetization, something need to happen to address it.

Totally agree this model needs to be reviewed.

As a caveat tho, people have no problems paying MMO's £10 Monthly, considering you got content patches maybe twice or three times a year so £120 per year on top of paying £39.99 for an expansion every 2 years. And this is acceptable?

Bungie recently owned the fact that Destiny is an MMO and are no longer hiding away from the fact of what it is.

Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.
