Destiny: better shooter by miles.
Borderlands: better looter, no contest.

Both are great on their own.

I picked up BL3 yesterday, have to say the gunplay and movement felt surprisingly fluid.

I've played both, and Borderlands 3 is a better shooter.

Destiny doesn't even deserve to be put anywhere near Borderlands, they're both looter shooters, and that's about all they have in common.

Borderlands doesn't take itself too seriously, meanwhile you got Destiny over here taking itself WAY too seriously, ESPECIALLY considering the below average plot it delivers.

With Borderlands it is ALL about the loot, with the whacky characters and story are basically just there as a way to help you enjoy the ride to getting the loot with your friends, having a good laugh. Meanwhile Destiny just uses loot as an excuse to pad out their short boring campaigns with endless grinding while you wait to be able to play the raid, or wait for one shop to have an item you want, not to mention the guns have much more variety in Borderlands, they're much more creative and unique, same goes for the playable characters and their abilities.

In Borderlands 3 the only 2 gripes I have with it is the huge focus on the newest and most annoying character (ava) and the weird censorship. They show people committing suicide, decapitated heads, hung bodies, blood bath murder scenes, yet for some reason they censor curse words and blur the middle finger, their censorship is backwards. Meanwhile in Borderlands 2 when you were the gunzerker using your ability made you give two middle fingers, something has definitely changed over at gearbox.

The censorship is a minor gripe, but Ava is definitely a really confusing ordeal...

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE PLOT DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T BEAT THE GAME------------

Ava literally get's her mentor/surrogate sister Maya killed by disobeying a direct order from Maya and Lilith, she then whines and complains about it and blames Lilith for Maya's death.. literally makes NO SENSE. But it gets even worse when they start letting Ava call the shots for some reason, then she leads the big raid on the Children of the Vault at the end of the game... WHY?! What has she done to prove she is worthy? Not to mention as she is leading the charge, she doesn't do anything other than blow a hole in one wall to let you through. Then the cherry on top is when Lilith sacrifices herself to stop Pandora from opening up and releasing the destroyer... she says she leaves Sanctuary and the crimson raiders IN HER HANDS?! WHY?! Literally ANYONE ELSE would be a better choice than Ava, she has literally no experience and has JUST become a siren. Like the writers literally killed off Maya JUST to make it so Ava could be the one to take charge instead of her.. not to mention Maya dying, was entirely HER FAULT, I honestly am certain they had different writers for the main story, but other than Ava being the worst character ever, the story is good.

Borderlands 3, not even close.

I was never ever able to like BorderLands, I have them all and after a few hours I just find a big disconnect with the game. I'm almost angry at myself.
Both are great games. Great support and fan support.

What If... Destiny 2's Gambit Was a Hit?

In a world where Gambit thrived, Destiny 2’s seasons, storylines, and even its endgame might’ve revolved around PvEvP as a core foundation.

Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.
