Gears 5 - Easy Allies Review

Along with solid multiplayer, improvements in both the campaign structure and the story help Gears 5 to elevate the series once again.

Spurg1686d ago (Edited 1686d ago )

Not the best review from easy allies.
It should have been reviewed by Ben or Blood.

LoveSpuds1686d ago

Nonsense, seemed well written with a score that reflects the body of the review. Care to explain why you feel it was a poor review?

Spurg1686d ago (Edited 1686d ago )

The review is barebones, with no explanation as to how the story does things better than previous games. What is concerning here is how quickly mentions the biggest part of Gears 5; the story. He spoke about the story for just 20 seconds in this review, as if it was an afterthought, there was no insight on the story whatsoever. The story is one of the biggest and most improved parts of Gears 5 and deserves a better review than what Bradley Ellis jotted down. This is why I mention Ben and Blood who are the best reviewers for Easyallies.

-There is no mention of how gameplay really changes the way you play such as the addition of stealth and how varied Jacks abilities adds to the tradition Gears formula.

-Calling escape a mode that gets repetitive is one of the stupidest things I've read. The whole idea behind the Escape is to keep playing until you get the best time possible. A game mode made to be attempted several times.

-No mention of the ridiculously fun arcade mode for multiplayer.

-'While Gears 5 looks great visually', this is the only thing that was mentioned about the graphics. Gears 5 is one of the best looking games this gen and he summarised it one sentence which is followed by a complained about performance. it's like saying, Hey, it's good but....(followed by a huge negative)". He spent the amount of time complaining about the performance than he did with the story.

-No mention of the beautifully orchestrated soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi.

-'If you are a fan that has been alienated by recent entries', this quote is trying so hard. What has Gears 4 done to alienate Gears fan? Its the penultimate Gears game. In fact Gears 5 is the game that will alienate fans not the Gears 4. This goes to see how Bradley Ellis is waffling and seemed to have reviewed this game similar to how you review an indie title.

What the metric for performance?
If the game becomes unplayable and has game-breaking glitches then it's a mediocre game with a lower rating than 8, maybe sitting at a 4-5. Similar to how Ben reviewed Fallout 76 where it got a 2 for being unplayable. The 8.0 score doesn't reflect the quality of the content you receive in Gear 5. It is a score slapped on just for the sake of finding a middle ground between quality content and performance.

In other words.

“It’s not a 10 so the person who reviewed it suckS”

SyntheticForm1686d ago

Indeed.

This sort of thing has happened a lot this year, no?

P_Bomb1686d ago (Edited 1686d ago )

An 8/10 isn’t bad Spurg. You’ve ripped some and gone easy on others (eg. RDR2’s “perfection” and how the MP would evolve into something tremendous). Different strokes.

Livingthedream1686d ago

Lol they give control and iceborn 9's

shuvam091686d ago

Just how they should be...

Brave_Losers_Unite1686d ago (Edited 1686d ago )

Because Iceborn is really good. Compare Iceborn and Gears on metacritic. Iceborn is better

CaptainOmega1686d ago

Gears 1 physics and detail shits on Gears 5.

Spurg1686d ago

Didn't know gears 1 had physics

rainslacker1686d ago

Gears 1 was basically an showcase game to show off UE3 physics and lighting engine. So yeah, it had physics.

DaDrunkenJester1686d ago

I do agree there needs to more environmental damage in Gears 5, but who cares about shooting random cans and shit? I'm assuming you're referencing Crowbcat's video?

Brave_Losers_Unite1686d ago

When I launch a grenade at a wooden bench, I expect it to break.

SyntheticForm1686d ago (Edited 1686d ago )

@Brave

Come on, now. Not all games need those levels of physics as they're expensive and there are arguably better things to spend resources on.

Have you held every game or most games released this generation to that same standard? That's a big ask and I think you know it.

It's a pretty positive review. Just relax people it's not like they are trolling for hits or anything. The Meta is an 85 so it's not like an 8/10 is way below that.
