A great, but sad story. It would’ve been nice for him to play a little bit of Cyberpunk or one of the upcoming games he may not be around for... but wants to see before he leaves this earth. God bless you dude. I love that you are spending your last few doing for you. Just think of the graphics you’ll see on the Xbox 100 inside the pearly gates. Where ray tracing flows like wine, at infinite frames per second at 16K.

Cmv382075d ago

Maybe THIS is the game he wanted to play....

VenomUK2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

I'm very sad to read about this chap Trevor Eastman's and his poor health; stopping all treatment and administering morphine means his time is short. I hope that in his last days the game gives him some fantastic moments of fun. When you're a gamer you never stop loving playing games. My best wishes to him and his family.

2075d ago
Ricegum2075d ago

The first sentence says he's a Borderlands superfan. He didn't want to play Cyberpunk.

Skuletor2075d ago

I had no idea being a Borderlands fan excludes you from wanting to play Cyberpunk, I learn something new everyday.

Ricegum2075d ago

SickSinceSix

What are you talking about? The article is regarding a "Borderlands Superfan." They got to play the game which is nice.

You're speculating he wants to play Cyberpunk, which is completely irrelevant to the article. Get a grip.

DaDrunkenJester2075d ago

I'm confused, so a "borderlands super fan" would have rather played Cyberpunk than his favorite series?

This may be one of the more cringey opinion projections I have ever seen.

ginsunuva2073d ago

Poor soul, didn't even spend his final hours playing a CDPR game.

Praise CDPR!

PlayableGamez-2075d ago

Unfortunate, but you really going to play video games on your last days?

Smitty20202075d ago

If the person Is in pain maybe

CooliSushi2075d ago

It's what I would do. Sitting there waiting in pain doesnt sound any better. I hope he's having a good time with bl3.

goldwyncq2075d ago

It's no different than reading books or gardening or playing sports on your last days. If that's what he loves the most then he is very much entitled to it

Tross2075d ago

Well, if I ever come down with a terminal illness I sure as heck won’t be pushing myself to run a marathon, especially if I’m in a lot of pain. I could see myself taking one last trip somewhere while I’m still well enough but once that ship has sailed, I’ll take my virtual escapism, thank you.

xTonyMontana2075d ago

If I was terminally ill, playing new games I was excited for but was potentially worried I wouldn't be around for would be very much a part of my plans

DaDrunkenJester2075d ago

I'd buy a bunch of hookers and cocaine and go out in style

jznrpg2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

I’d rather have some MDMA or something . Cocaine sucks . Keep the hookers tho

Mainman1872075d ago

This guy knows how to have fun.

jznrpg2075d ago

Why not? He loves games , is bound to his bed because he is dying . Your mind is still there it’s your body that’s giving out in his case .

Pozzle2075d ago

Sadly, terminal cancer patients who are in such an advanced stage can't do much besides lie in bed and wait to die. They're either far too weak or in pain to do much else, and some people aren't even fully aware of what is going on around them because of the pain they're in :(

Ainsley922075d ago

The guy the article is about is one of my very good friends and he barely stays awake half the time because of the meds he’s on and videogames are the one thing he loved to do before cancer that he can still do when he’s so close to the end. So yes, he will spend whatever time he has left to play playing his favorite game

NarooN2074d ago

"Why would someone terminally I'll waste their time doing something they love doing rather than just sitting in pain doing nothing instead?"

The absolute STATE of n4g users lol

deafdani2074d ago

It's his last days. So yeah, he's gonna do whatever the fuck he wants to do. If that is playing games, more power to him.

Not how I'd be spending my last days, but hey, you got a raw deal, you can do whatever you want.

Fluttershy772075d ago

I hate these "stories". There's always a kid with cancer that wants to play some game before dying, or the kid that wanted to see the new star wars... What I feel about it, is that they get used, for publicity, but if I want to play a game is because I like the game or like the developers, not because the developers are so kind that let him play the game before release...
My last days I want to be near my family, just talking... just near them

link2Dpast2075d ago

Mannnnn you better go out there and get some of that poon tang pie or man butt hole which ever is there preference but still find a way

VenomUK2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

Normally when a person is in their last days because of terminal illness their body will be very weak and in pain leaving them confined to bed.

MasterCornholio2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

Unfortunately I've seen this in person and confirm it to be true especially with cancer.

link2Dpast2075d ago (Edited 2075d ago )

I get it. It was just bringing some light to a dark situation. The world is just full of gloom and despair and that mixed with a scenario where someone is on their last legs is beyongn tough for the immediate family attached to that situation. Ive always gone through life knowing stuff like this happens , accepting that it’s an inevitable part of life and the notion just live life to the fullest is easily and most said cliche but the weighted truth it holds is undeniable

Yui_Suzumiya2075d ago

I worked in nursing homes for almost 9 years and currently work in a hospital. When cancer is that advanced, you're lucky if you can even talk or move. Most of the time you're not even conscious and you're also incontinent. Sounds so sexy right? You gotta do all that stuff way before it gets this advanced.

Psychotica2075d ago

The only thing that would matter to me is if I was right with God since I would be meeting him soon.

2075d ago
DaDrunkenJester2075d ago

Ah yes, you mean getting right with that loving god who let a child get terminal cancer and is now dying miserable and in pain at only 27 years old... yeah make sure you get right by the big guy lol

Psychotica2075d ago

Yeah that God that lets people have free will and choose to reject him which caused disease and sickness to come into the world

KwietStorm_BLM2075d ago

Why is there always people who say oh yeah the God who *let this happen*? Even if you did believe in God, which I'm sure you don't, would you really presume that he controls life? Flips switches, pushes buttons and "allows" things to happen or go unnoticed? We're all given life, whichever way you believe it to have occurred. But it's our life to deal with. If you believe a higher power "let" things happen, then you would inherently give up your right to live a free life. Isn' that right?

DaDrunkenJester2075d ago

He gave me free will? I must have missed his ToS when my parents birthed me and gave me life.

Psychotica2075d ago

Adam & Eve had free will and they chose to reject God by being disobedient. That brought sin into the world and we are all reaping the consequences.

Damn, the Fallout tactic but reversed..

Inverno281d ago

I am glad the movie is bombin, can we stop making horrible adaptations now?

ChronoJoe281d ago

There have been some good adaptations recently though. I think the Gran Turismo movie is really good and The Last of Us and Fallout TV shows are great too.

If they're going to try, some of them are going to fall short. That's just inevitable. If anything we should encourage more effort so that they learn more about what makes some of these work, while others don't. Honestly I think Borderlands should have been a hit, but I think it would have been much better as an animated show akin to the League of Legends TV show on Netflix.

Inverno280d ago

Yea but the good to bad ratio still leans more to the bad. All the ones you pointed out have been pretty great, can't wait for season 2 of all those shows. With that said, you can't "fall short" unless it's on purpose, in this case it's Borderlands. These characters, the world, the lore is/are fleshed out, there's a ton of source material, there are 7 games!

Kosic281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

But BL3 is the worst one in the series....should do #2 and experience Handsome Jack

Michiel1989281d ago

there was no actor handsome enough available to play Jack

DustMan281d ago

Nah. Tiny TIna's Wonderland is the worst in my opinion. I enjoyed 3 more than the "pre-sequel" and Tiny Tina's Wonderland.

Dudeson281d ago

Agreed, at least 3 felt like borderlands, gameplay was great, bosses were interesting. Wonderlands was just a turn in the wrong direction, the idea seemed great, but playing through the game just didn't feel like borderlands to me. Also dlc scam.

porkChop281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

My issue with TTW is that it's supposedly a new IP in the Borderlands universe, not just a Borderlands game. Yet it plays and feels just like Borderlands with some magic tacked on. For every cool new idea there's a handful of ideas just rehashed from Borderlands. They really didn't do enough to make it feel like its own thing. It's still just an FPS with guns, except the guns are magical now. Why not focus instead on crazy melee weapons, bows, and magic/spells instead?

Lighter9281d ago

I'd say the pre-sequel because of the low gravity. That was horrible.

porkChop281d ago

In terms of gameplay BL3 is the strongest in the series. It's the narrative that really lets that game down.

ChronoJoe281d ago

Eh...

The story is definitely worse but there's more to these games than that. Gameplay, loot, endgame and build variety is definitely better in 3. I think they did a great job with the game, some of the DLC is fantastic too.

Kosic280d ago

I agree with people are saying. There's sole really good ideas in the games followed by some odd choices. I loved Bl2 , and I liked the presequel because it tries to explain Handsome Jack's downfall (YouTube game theory handsome jack).

Also PreSeq, has this really cool team play where talents could help pick your friends up from bleeding out. Athena throwing her shield if it bounces of a player they are picked up from dying. Head shots Aith the sniper chick etc.

BL3, I cannot get past the annoying social media influences, it's meant to be funny, it's just unbearable. Gameplay feels solid though. But I've not made it past lvl 20 ish on 3 tries. The story does not interest me, the classes are poor and talents feel bland.

gold_drake280d ago

i didnt like 3s sotry villains, like at all.

but i dont think any of the borderlands mainline games were "bad". i nejoyed all of them

but im not part of the community and play them mostly with my friends or alone.

there are worse games rly.

Like they said...a bad publicity is still a publicity

jznrpg281d ago

I totally forgot there was a movie coming out. I’m not a big fan of adaptations mainly because most of them suck and they take away from me playing video games. I didn’t get into Borderlands 3 game. 1 was my favorite 2 was pretty good but a third with more of the same didn’t interest me much to begin with.

Seems like I'll finally play my first NHL since the PS1 days

OtterX327d ago

Yea, I honestly have never been a follower of hockey, but I did grow up occasionally playing games here and there with some of my friends. Especially Blades of Steel NES and I honestly think my last one was one of the NHL ones on PS1 also! This may stir up some nostalgia. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise, but I'll give it a go w PS+.

monkey602328d ago

Well that's a lot of nope from me.

Doesn't Among Us sell for a whopping €2.50 anyway?

328d ago
phoenixwing328d ago (Edited 328d ago )

Never bought borderlands 3 since they picked that Jesus mockery of a photo. Was not impressed. There was literally no reason to use it other than to be blasphemous. There's no angels or demons in the game yet they had to be profane toward God and go out of their way to do it.

monkey602328d ago

I'd have said that cover art was easily the best thing about the game. Shame they neutered the humour in game so much.

BISHOP-BRASIL328d ago

Driving boring ass mainline Christians into rage fits is reason enough. Are you not entertained? 'cause we are...

(Also the third game revolves around the radicalization os Bandits and Psychos into the cult Children of the Vault which see the female twin as literally a goddess, in fact the whole franchise always made extensive use of tropes such as cult like factions and villains with a Messiah complex, so it's fitting, however a logical rebuttal to your whining is just less fun).

phoenixwing328d ago (Edited 328d ago )

No the point is they could easily have pictured a character from the game who they're worshipping but instead go after Christians. If they were so altruistic to stop and point out radicalization as if they're brave people they would have put Allah on the cover but oh no we can't upset them because instead of taking it in stride they'd have to actually confront the Muslims who would be outraged. But yeah let's do our weak attempts at being edgy on people who are more mature toward others. Basically all you atheists like to punch down why not go to an Arab country and protest.

Hofstaderman327d ago

@phoenixwing Allah is the arabic word for God used by Christians in the region too.

DarXyde327d ago

phoenixwing,

I can think of a few reasons why the Jesus imagery works better.

1. The intended audience would understand Christian imagery more than Islamic imagery. I'll also add that it's fascinating to observe Christian whataboutisms largely run to Islam to criticize when they feel attacked.

2. If you're trying to sell a game in more countries, there's literally only one Christian theocracy in the world. Do you think B3 not selling in Vatican City has the same impact as being shut out of the multiple Muslim theocracies globally?

3. Islam has an image problem in countries with high Christian populations in the modern era due largely to 11 September. There are people outraged by Hamas' actions without any willingness to engage with the context of how it happened. The Zionists are pretty supportive of the ongoing genocide of innocent civilians. In light of this, your imagery complaint feels very entitled if I'm being honest.

If you want to take it as a W, perhaps the devs in a weird, islamophobic way see Christians as being more tolerant of such imagery being used...? That you can disapprove and boycott without violence? I don't really know.

It's fine if you don't play the game on the basis that it upsets you, though as a member of a racial group that either gets dunked on routinely or pushed forward to further some tolerance agenda, I've learned to laugh at it. If I can learn to do that for immutable characteristics, you can for your beliefs.

You don't have to.... But you can.
