To sell a game from 1997 on a modern console, you pretty much have to fully reboot it. And as the trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake that premiered Wednesday at the Tokyo Game Show demonstrates, that approach can make flaws in the original material painfully obvious.

Nearly 27 years after the original game's release, Final Fantasy 7 superfan Jamie Colliver has finished his magnum opus: A shot-for-shot remake of the original PlayStation 1 game, created entirely via LittleBigPlanet 2. Colliver's remake reimagines the original game as a platformer, with every scene, every location, every line of dialogue, and every song from the game's OST painstakingly implemented .

Really now? Would you prefer they handle this like Dragon Quest in Japan where there’s initially no voice acting?
I’ll admit that I cringed with the voice acting in the trailer but I feel it’s the way they edited the trailer. It reminds me of the E3 2018 Kingdom Hearts trailer where the cringe was strong due to how they edited grunts and weird snipets of dialogue.
I’ll probably switch to Japanese audio given the choice.
The VA is fine, IMO.
