5 Things Gamers Aren’t Worrying About, But Probably Should Be

There’s no doubt there are so many great things that come out of gaming, from success stories to pure enjoyment, but there are also some real disappointing and harsh things that seemingly go on too. Then there’s also the things that go on in the background that I suppose we probably all know about somewhere in the back of our minds, but we don’t seem to think too hard about... perhaps we should shouldn't ignore them?

Don't group me in with you, i've been worried about these things ever since Online Passes were a thing back on the PS3/360. Everything is so disposable these days, in the future when people want to go back and play their favorite "retro" PS4 games, all they'll have are severely broken games with no servers to patch them anymore, games that are pretty much unplayable cause you can't get the required day 1 update (see COD WWII & Spyro trilogy). Hell i LOVE No Mans Sky but even i know once the severs go down on that game everyone will just be stuck with the terrible launch version unless they held onto their install for that long. We'll start seeing consoles sold at insanely high prices based on what fully updated games are still installed on their HDD. Preservation and ownership are going down the drain, and we're letting it happen

"Don't group me in with you"

It's a broad sense man. If you're already worried about it, then good. We need to talk more openly about it like you just did because I don't see these problems talked about enough

Beyond just got a physical release so good on the nms front xD

I think that people who rely heavily on an online connection for gaming will have a fairly decent one and the risk of them losing progress is minimal. If you know your internet is piss poor/non existent you're going to buy physical.

I get that you don't truly feel like you own games you buy digitally but how many times have people actually lost the ability to play their own digital games? It's never happened to me and I don't know why it would.

Yes after a certain length of time ultimately unsuccessful online games will shut down their servers, it's a natural thing and nothing to worry about.

Health is an issue for some gamers I imagine as it's a passive and time consuming pastime but I lift weights and eat healthily so I'm not going to assume nobody else does and it's a widespread problem.

So you can't see anything until it happens.
sounds like a person that never has cash because his visa card has never gotten worn before replacing.

It is in the print you CANT get a refund for digital ever.

EA shut down NBA 2014 in 2015!!! go play your xbox original online games. You cant without building a private server. Ditto for PS2 online. Go play Socom online. At any time microsoft can say you said the word .f@ck. We are banning your account. Bame no games. Same with the other two. EA can say These servers are not making us money and are costing us. Bam no games. Microsoft can say we want every one to migrate from xbox two to xbox three today. All they have to do to force it is turn off servers.

"how many times have people actually lost the ability to play their own digital games?"

Dunno. How many people brought games from GFWL?

I personally have had one game removed from my library on PS3 digital titles which I can't download anymore. R-Types, a PS1 classic game released early in the PSN days.

There are quite a few instances of content being removed from iTunes or Google Play which aren't always game, but it's digital content.

While it may not be everything, or everyone, and it may not be as big of a deal or relevant to people when it does happen as if it were a say some big game, it still happens. On top of that, as services become more prolific, and everything throws their hat into the ring, the more failures there are going to be, which means more people are going to lose their content. The more time passes, and the more people that buy into digital, and the more times that content can't be made available anymore, the more that these things are going to happen.

It's just an eventuality that people that want digital are going to have to accept is a possibility, and for all the people that say us physical proponents need to just accept the future, I think digital proponents also need to accept that their digital future isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and that nothing is perfect.

Even worse is when games are stuck in licensing limbo and cannot be even re-released on modern platforms. So these games are to old to work on new and old platforms alike and are just left to be forgotten.

Tross2113d ago

Yeah, there’s a reason why I’m primarily a single player gamer and why I’ll never buy my games on a service that requires internet connectivity to access. I also don’t buy games with MTs, period. I’m not worried because only games that deserve my money get it, and if those go away, then I will just stick with the backlog I have.

I've been worried about all these things for years now.
