The most impressive game that will never be finished..

Oh and that sweet ship you see there.. costs $725 US Dollars!

Abriael1715d ago

Or... nothing, since all ships will be available for purchase in-game with credits that you can earn playing. Most already are, actually.

Neonridr1715d ago

earn playing or buy purchasing via MTs I am sure. Not to mention I would love to know how many in-game credits would be required to purchase this and how long it would take a regular person to acquire said credits.

I am not trying to downplay the game, it's actually technically quite stunning. It's just a shame that the guy behind it all will never be satisfied and thus will never stop dreaming of what next to add to the game. The mere fact that they have the audacity to charge that much for a digital ship is a little crazy though. And I have no doubt some people will pay that.

Abriael1714d ago

You're sure of a lot of things of which there is no trace at the moment. The price of ships in-game is pretty reasonable, and comparable to progression in most MMOs.

It is not in any shape or form "audacity." Backers are given an absolutely and 100% optional way to support continued development, and they do it. That's all there is to it, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Neonridr1713d ago

@Abriael - uhh ok. Didn't know I deserved that response for questioning the motives of the game. Pretty reasonable, please.. do share. There's nothing wrong with predatory behavior that encourages players to spend money to help "fund further development"?

I understand you can spend in game money to buy stuff, but I guarantee you, much like a F2P game, they have set it up in a way so that that would require intensive amount of time and effort.

Abriael1713d ago (Edited 1713d ago )

You guarantee a lot of things for someone who hasn't tried the game at all. I wonder, what are you basing it on?

Incidentally, abusing big words like "predatory" completely out of place doesn't add more solidity to your argument which is already based entirely on perception with no experience.

There is nothing "predatory" in letting people finance the development of a game, completely optionally beyond the price of the basic package, when that money is going into creating the game *they want.*

People finance Star Citizen's development because they WANT Star Citizen to be made and to be the best it can be. That's how crowdfunding works. No one is being "preyed upon." People want something and are ready to pay for it.

It's funny as hell to see outsiders that simply don't care bash this process. Most of the people who backed Star Citizen spent the equivalent or less then what they would spend in your average AAA game, and I assure you, they already got more enjoyment out of it than your average AAA game would provide, even in alpha.

PS: Star Citizen isn't a F2P game.

Neonridr1711d ago

you mean besides the people who have spent 25,000 on the game..

Why are you so defensive about this title. Are you a player of the game? It's ok to not like the model they have set up.

"It's just a shame that the guy behind it all will never be satisfied and thus will never stop dreaming of what next to add to the game."

I'm sorry, but I think taking this as a negative is a really bad take. You have the two facets of the game: Squadron 42 and then the persistent world portion. Dreaming up new things to add in a game universe is exactly what the latter portion needs.

I understand that a lot of people don't see the value in what they're trying to do, and what they've done already, but I think it's awesome.

If it succeeds, you'll still be right: the game will never be finished.

Watch the end of this video, they have some really cool UI tools.

I see that the dev kits are still struggling to push 30fps which means there is still a long way to go.

Personal Hangars sound brilliant for what is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious games in the galaxy.
.
And worth it too, you only need to make a $10,000 donation…
.
..to get on the waiting list.

Just a giant blackhole simulator sucks up everything in sight really loves money from the fools.
