Final Fantasy VII Remake is wonderful, quite honestly. It still has the famous scenes, classic lines, and pivotal moments that defined the original, but is setting an all new standard of quality for how remakes can and should be treated.
This shouldn’t be a standard though. It’s fun that this remake is trying something new, but not every other remake going forward should have to revamp itself to this degree. That’s been the case for decades now
Yeah the quality and standard for this remake is remarkable however, try to keep in mind how long it's been in development now! But I can understand why SE is giving FF7 the royal treatment. it is what put Suare on top in America for jrpgs after all.
It's been in development for the standard amount of time for any new game. 4-5 years is average for AAA games.
Ocarina of Time should be remade to same degree as this one. With voice and motion capture
That would be amazing! And much better than BOTW.
If only KOTOR could get this remake treatment.... Its the only game that needs improved visuals they can literally leave all the voice acting as is.
*looks at the RE2 remake* Really?
was gonna mention the same lol
I love RE2 Remake just as much as you, but FF7R is a different beast when it comes to production value.
RE2 stayed so faithful to the original, definitely my favourite re-make this gen. As a huge fan of FF7 this re-make worries me that it might be style over substance, I really hope I eat these words though!
RE2 is definitely up there as the best Remake so far. I think FF7 just has a much bigger scope so it seems like a more grandiose project.
Day. Motherfucking. One!
I feel like Resident Evil 2 Remake did just that. Same with the Ratchet & Clank PS4, Shadow of the Colossus, Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy. So no, Final Fantasy VII Remake is not setting the standard for remakes when it's been done already.
The new standard, no one is taking away from the other games
Ffvii is a special case. This is a massive undertaking and not every good old game needs or deserves what is happening to ff7 and its remake.
I'd rather have a quick and polished remake like RE2 than one that's been in development hell for a long time and then when we do get it we still dont really get it cuz its episodic and it will be another decade before we get halfway though all the episodes they milk out.
Which game are you talking about that has been in development hell? FF7 remake has been in the making for 5 years - That's standard for any new AAA game. Also, it's not episodic. Do you consider Uncharted 1-4 to be episodic? Or Gears 1-5? Multiple FULL LENGTH games are not episodes.
You must have never played the original FF7. The game doesnt end when you first leave Midgar, where as Episode One of the Remake does. SquarEnix themselves have called it being "Episodic" in nature. On top of that it's been in development for over five years. It was in development way before it was announced at E3 years ago and even longer if you count the PS3 tech demo that was worked on.
The Resident Evil 2 remake was in development for five years. The same length as the first part of the remake
When it comes to the FF games Square always tops each installment with fantastic production, visual & graphics.
How so? By only remaking a third of a game? Yeah, okay.
Its expanded to be a full game
The entire story is being remade with lots of added content. What are you on about?
I'll get downvoted for being stupid, and I accept that, but....Square can go ahead and just take my money. FFVII is THE game that changed it all for me back in the day; I still play it today. Even if it was widely panned as terrible, I'd still pay 60 bucks just to revisit the characters and explore for myself. So, cash grab, milked DLC, complaint about this/that/whatever, they have my attention and my monetary support. Get it done, I want to play.
Did the author completely forget about Resident Evil 2?
RE2 set the standard earlier this year. Damn game was damn near perfection. Played it 4 times back to back to get the Platinum and still think about it to this day. That is the mark of a truly great game. If FF7 can come close to this damn. I’m excited.
I think RE Remake 1 already did that.
