The Witcher 3 on Switch – Ugly as Never, Fun as Ever

Gamepressure writes: "Can you run a game that strains modern gaming systems on a hand-held? The Witcher 3 attempts to prove that you can. Although Geralt had to lose some weight along the way, he ultimately managed to squeeze into Switch."

I always like the euphemisms used for switch games because people cant handle being truthful about the lack of power which results in poorly performing games with the worst graphics. I dont have to wonder how much this old port of a game will cost while being the worst version

so you know better than someone who has actually played it....

interesting

I played the demo yesterday at gamescom and I must say they have done an amazing job. Yes the textures were low, the draw distance was poor but the frame rate was stable and all the game mechanics seemed to work perfectly.
Is it worth buying???
If you do not own anything other hardware than a switch then yes, but if you own a ps4 Xbox or pc then no. Especially when you realize you can get it for less than €20 on these platforms compared to €59 on switch.

@Ratchet75 - thanks for sharing. And who knows if that was even a final build. I am always of the impression that if you can get it cheaper on another system then that might be money better spent. But if I purchase it for my PS4 I'll be lucky to get playing time vs getting it on my Switch where I can play it wherever I happen to be (lunch break at work for example).

I always have to consider these things when buying games for either system.

Have the game on my pc and it runs and looks amazing on my gtx1060. But ive only played like an hour lol. Being such a slowpaced and heavy story game thats an rpg, I just find it a huge drag to sit there in my chair/couch all day playing it. With the portability of the switch and being able to play the game no problem laying in bed or on the couch will work WONDERS for me and if I feel it, I can "switch" to my tv.. From the gameplay videos, the game still looks good and seems to run well so Im quite tempted to buy the game at even the full $60 price. I LOVE rpgs on the go.

It’s not lacking power - for a handheld..

It’s incredibly impressive what devs are squeezing out of such meagre specs. It’s portability makes it a very different - not worse - version.

I don’t understand people who don’t comprehend the core function and use cases for the Switch. It’s not that complicated.

lellkay2101d ago (Edited 2101d ago )

I'd love to have this version, but I'm afraid you are right. It'll be £50-£55 no doubt, and probably never reduce in price (Like Skyrim and Doom) I'd love to own all of these ports, but when I can buy the superior versions for sometimes less than 1/5 of the price, It puts me off.

From all the videos I’ve seen this far, it seems the frame rate has been really stable. That for me is the biggest key for a game like this. You know the graphics are going to take a hit for the portability, but terrible frame rates can easily make or break an experience.

The game looks god awful on Switch but Im sure handheld mode will make the issues hard to see but dont ever play on docked mode.

Neonridr2101d ago

god awful is a bit of a stretch, but obviously flaws are easier noticed, especially on bigger TVs.

A switch 2 update might be a nice way to celebrate it for people who brought the switch 1 version

4Scarrs_Gaming1d 13h ago

This is exactly what I was thinking too.

gigoran81d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

It will be for a price. unfortunately not like the PS5 where a majority of them were free.

anast1d 16h ago

Cool, can we get a controller sensitivity option for the PS5? Geralt going full sprint when I barely touch the controller is keeping me from playing this game a 3rd time.

I would have included the Uncharted games as well. Good list though.

Yui_Suzumiya27d ago

Island would be #1 but that would be anything from Frontwing.

Haha it is not lost on me that two of the games in the top four were already novels before they were games

Actually just picked this up yesterday on Steam, since it's $9.99 for the game and all the DLC. I've owned it for years on Playstation, but honestly never put a whole lot of time into it. Though I knew I had to play through it one day because I loved what I did play. It runs so buttery smooth on PC. Still a really beautiful game with everything maxed out settings-wise at 4K.

Damn man that’s a long ass wait for a game you were feeling good about. I beat it the first time over 9 years ago
