The Blair Witch: Will it be scary and faithful, or boring and frustrating like Layers Of Fear?

The Blair Witch on Xbox One is due at the end of the month, but is it destined to be a worse games of the year contender alongside Layers Of Fear 2?

Apparently there is some light combat to fend off attacks. But expect it mostly to be like Outlast where you'll be mostly hiding, avoiding, running etc. Maybe with an occasional weapon to stun or slow down an attack.

well Outlast and something like Layers of Fear are completely different. If it's like Outlast then yes please.. if it's like Layers of Fear then ugh..

If you ask me layers of fear 2 is better than outlast. Outlast is generic and unengaging. Layers of Fear 2 and Observer are more artistically interesting and to me, scarier.

Both games suffer from being frustrating imo

I barely even played these 2 but Soma and Amnesia are just boring. SCP has neat ideas but it gets old quick and the gfx are just awful. Slender and Agony are hot trash. Eerie is a mess. I get lost in Grave. Meanwhile I enjoyed Detention, Neverending Nightmares and Darkwood. Exactly 3 out of 10.

Slender is FAR from trash (and thankfully most who've played it agree). Neither SOMA nor Amnesia are boring (and also were reviewed well by gamers and critics alike). 'I barely even played these two' says a lot, because your view of things can't be taken seriously with such an admission.

Thus, the '3/10' you speak of is very much a personal issue, not at all indicative of a real percentage of bad→good in Indie Horror titles.

Slender has 6s all over the place. Soma is boring that I gave up. You just walk and get stuff, nothing scary at all. I played some of the Amnesia sequel and there was nothing happening besides doing some puzzles. AAA horror this gen is just clearly better since they're quality over quantity. I hate it when Indie developers add filler to stretch their game or fall flat because their game is too ambitious since they're trying to be like an AAA game.

Last I checked, a '6' wasn't trash, but then, this generation of gamers think anything under 8 is bad. So no shock there.

Nothing wrong with saying that AAA is of better quality than Indie (though that doesn't take a Master's Degree to know), but a lot of your issues are not reflected among the majority and critics/feedback agree.

LoF 2 was a really good game, the story and narrative were a bit iffy but the actual mechanics and creepy-factor were spot on. At least the story for The Blair witch is about as simple as you can get, so there isn't much to think about whilst focusing on the visuals and spooks.

I mean it'll be more akin to LOF obviously but I actually liked that game (didn't play the sequel), it's true that Bloober team games are lacking in the gameplay department but they are all about immersion and atmosphere.
