"I used to be addicted to achievements and trophy hunting in video games, but Nintendo Switch has none of those things. It helped me break the addiction." | Daniel Thompson, Nintendo Enthusiast
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "PAX East was remarkable for a lot of reasons this year, but the appearance of a playable demo of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake made it truly special. For approximately 30 minutes, I played through select scenes from the revamped versions of both Dragon Quest I and II, to get a grasp on what role-playing adventures await us on October 30, when the package arrives on all current-gen systems, including Switch 2."
WTMG's Oliver Shellding: "But other than that niggling issue, I had such a memorable, gorgeous time with Kulebra. A combination of Paper Mario, Coco and Undertale, this beautiful game brought me on a journey into unknown reaches of empathy, hope and utter heartbreak. It treated the player gently, touching on ideas of life after death without being aggressive or definitive, and it did so with absolute grace. It was a joy to explore, it never flagged, and I was dead set on finding and reading everything. Finally, I am at peace, and I simply must recommend this sweet memento mori to whomever it can reach. I promise: you won’t forget this."
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time offers a cozy single-player experience with flexible jobs and lots to do.
Trophies/achievements are a slight bonus that make gaming a little more enjoyable. It's just nice to look back at your accomplishments and to compare with friends.
Nintendo is way behind with online infrastructure and features. Fans need to hold them accountable instead of spinning their deficiencies into some sort of positive.
It's a bit silly. It's like saying "i used to be addicted to gaming, but thanks to Xbox 360's RRoD i no longer have that problem!". "Thanks for being deficient videogame company!".
“Achievements in this sense are antithetical to the core soul of each game they release.”
Many of Nintendo’s own individual titles such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros Brawl/4/Ultimate, Fire Emblem Warriors, Miitopia, Bayonetta 2, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Xenoblade, & Wario Land: Shake It have separate Achievement systems of their own. You gonna say that is antithetical to their core as well? Why throw shade at a system wide feature yet neglect how this same system has been integrated into individual various games for a far longer period of time as well?
Achievements and Trophies are things that can help add replayability to a game. You can even skip them if you don’t fancy them. They’re a benefit to people who are interested in them and can be turned off by people indifferent to them. There’s no legitimate downside to their existence.
I prefer achievements. I feel like I get my monies worth because it helps me keep track of what I've done. But Nintendo doesn't have it, so be it; no big deal.
I don't think I've ever rolled my eyes so hard in my life.
I know people who would choose a Dora the explorer game over something like a Witcher 3 or a red dead 2, just for the easier platinum.
Trophies can be a problem for some.
