Smash Pro Retires, Faces Lifetime Ban After Dating Teen Competitor

The Super Smash Bros Ultimate community is often a tight-knit one. That’s why the sudden retirement of Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce was a shock to many. Why he was retiring was an even bigger one.

This seems to happen a lot in that sort of community. Hopefully something can be done about it

Eonjay1753d ago (Edited 1753d ago )

What do you mean it happens alot? Do you mean people in that community dating? I mean if you are about the competitive scene and you hang around the same people all the time...

As far as the age thing goes, I am personally against dating anyone outside of a 5 year age gap than me, and especially is someone is younger than 18 or the gap is more than 10 years (although I think if someone is like 40 and the other is 50 no one is going to care.) And again this is just my opinion. As long as they are both able to legally consent then we only have our opinions, and nothing else.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is why they call it smash bros 😎
Okay I will leave now.

Oh come on now, there is nothing about being obsessed with video games that stops me from getting laid (outside of the fact that I am already taken and don't feel the desire to be a complete whore anymore lol). And believe me if you want to get some, just go get it. Its everywhere. You guys kill me. Someone will throw you that good good if you give yourself a chance to being with!

@SkatterBrain

Most of us on here have girlfriends/boyfriends. Most of us are adults. A lot of us are married with kids and nearly all of us have jobs and some form of social life offline. The old stereotype of the 'gamer' is dead. We are not basement dwellers. We just happen to support the biggest entertainment industry on Earth.

Pretty sure there was a Smash tournament organizer that was caught trying to get with underage kids in recent years.

Rynxie1753d ago (Edited 1753d ago )

Retiring or facing possible jail time?

Bluemaster771753d ago

@AK91 why do you have do many down votes for speaking the truth? 🤔🤔

CaptainCook1753d ago

The down voters probably done the same, dating minors.

KillZallthebeast1753d ago

16 is actually the legal age in a bunch of states.

Bluemaster771753d ago

@Killzallthebeast if you think its ok to be a grown man and date what is essentially a kid youre a perv

KillZallthebeast1752d ago

Just pointing out it was likely legal. I wasn't saying everyone should go out and date 16 year olds. For future reference you'll come off as more credible if you don't sound so militant in your posts.

Cobra9511752d ago (Edited 1752d ago )

Before 18 and after 65, the government protects them. Anywhere in between, they're fair game. In some places, like merry old England, make that 16.

Depends on the state. In some states 16 is legal so there would be no jail time.

No one seems to have a solid answer - How old were they both when the "relationship" started? I doubt the answer is good whatever it was.

Notellin1753d ago (Edited 1753d ago )

"At the time of the incident, Elliot was 26 years old while Zack would have been 16."

This quote is from another news story that presented significantly more facts.

rainslacker1753d ago

I doubt retiring would cause him to avoid jail, assuming there was sexual activity at all.

In any case, 16 is legal age in most states. Just the age difference makes it less socially appropriate.

Was the "teen" 16 years of age? Isn't that legal in certain states?

There's worse things to get riled about...

"OMG 16!!.. He is a sick pig"..... 2 years later she is 18....."They are such a wonderful young couple"

TricksterArrow1753d ago

@above Doesn't matter, the example still applies. I'm particularly against dating anyone below the age of 18, but I digress.

Wasn't it? The apology notes on twitter are titled "My Ex-Girlfriend and I"

I hope you never have a daughter.

Software_Lover1753d ago

If I read it correctly, this was a man and a boy. I could be wrong though.

goldwyncq1753d ago

Just checked again and you're right. Doesn't make it any less worse though.

Notellin1753d ago

Or in this case a son because the 16 year old was a male. Both were males.

rainslacker1753d ago

Boy or girl, it shouldn't really matter if one is discussing the age difference, or if it's appropriate, or legal.

Not just certain states, but the vast majority of them. Most of them also have a number of years over the age of consent where it's still legal...like if a 14 year old were involved with someone who's 17, then it's not considered illegal because one has to be more than 4 years older.

I'd say their age difference here was certainly frowned upon from a social context though.

One thing I notice is these kinds of articles do really end up showing who is ignorant of the law in general. Not you, but many going around calling the guy a pedophile, or saying he should serve jail time.

Duoma1753d ago

personally( and i emphasize personally) i could give a crap less what the law says. if someone who was 10 years older than my nephew or neice (both 16 and still in school) tried dating them , the'yd get beatdown and worse. if you are an Adult trying to get with someone still in jr high/ high school you a pedophile in my eyes.

When either my nephew or neice can pay their own bills, live in their own house and have their own jobs then i would care less until then theyre both children in my eyes dependent on being taken care of. The people in this comment section shrugging it off like its nothing are clearly showing A) they are probably horny teenagers/kids or B) live somewhere where they condone that sick crap.

and before anyone says some dumb shit like "oh get off your high horse" , stoning people, rape and other abhorrent behavior is perfectly acceptable in some countries/cultures, that doesnt make it "right".

rainslacker1752d ago

Well, the people involved here are neither your nephew or niece, nor do you pay their bills, nor do they live in your house.

Don't get all pissy about saying how you'd handle it personally when it's with someone related to you, when referring to someone who isn't related to you. You know nothing about their relationship beyond their ages, and the controversy that arose around it.

I personally find it inappropriate, but I couldn't care less what they do, because it doesn't affect me, and I prefer living in a civil society where the law takes precedent. Sometimes laws are unjust or not proper, but beating the crap out of some guy because the law doesn't favor your opinion does not make you a better person.

And trying to deflect to worse stuff in other cultures doesn't make you more moral or upstanding.

warriorcase1753d ago

16 is the age of consent not just in the states but in a lot of countries. Doesn't mean people still won't get grossed out by it. It's to be expected.

As a side note on age laws. Same goes for drinking ages, 21 for America seems crazy to me.
