As far as the age thing goes, I am personally against dating anyone outside of a 5 year age gap than me, and especially is someone is younger than 18 or the gap is more than 10 years (although I think if someone is like 40 and the other is 50 no one is going to care.) And again this is just my opinion. As long as they are both able to legally consent then we only have our opinions, and nothing else.

Not just certain states, but the vast majority of them. Most of them also have a number of years over the age of consent where it's still legal...like if a 14 year old were involved with someone who's 17, then it's not considered illegal because one has to be more than 4 years older.

I'd say their age difference here was certainly frowned upon from a social context though.

One thing I notice is these kinds of articles do really end up showing who is ignorant of the law in general. Not you, but many going around calling the guy a pedophile, or saying he should serve jail time.

Well, the people involved here are neither your nephew or niece, nor do you pay their bills, nor do they live in your house.

Don't get all pissy about saying how you'd handle it personally when it's with someone related to you, when referring to someone who isn't related to you. You know nothing about their relationship beyond their ages, and the controversy that arose around it.

I personally find it inappropriate, but I couldn't care less what they do, because it doesn't affect me, and I prefer living in a civil society where the law takes precedent. Sometimes laws are unjust or not proper, but beating the crap out of some guy because the law doesn't favor your opinion does not make you a better person.

16 is the age of consent not just in the states but in a lot of countries. Doesn't mean people still won't get grossed out by it. It's to be expected.

There's often a huge disconnect between what is legal, and what is socially acceptable. Things like this make that painfully obvious. One can't just state an impartial fact of law, with no desire to broach the social aspect of if it's right or wrong, without some people coming down on them hard with what I assume is an attempt to either shame that person into feeling bad, or their own frustration because they may feel that it's the only way to make a change to the legal systems which they feel are wrong. I'd wager most of the ones in here fall in the former category based on other subjects of similar social connotation that crop of from time to time.

I think in South Australia, 16 is the age of consent but only if the partner is 16-18, 18 is the minimum age for any partner above 18.

Just because you wouldn't date someone older than X years difference, why should everyone follow your ideals? If you don't like dating another race, such as black, white, Asian or 'other', does that mean it's 'wrong' if someone dates one of these races? No, it isn't...

The call for a 'ban' seems a bit harsh, but we aren't given the whole story (as it's nobody's business). If the tournaments and professional relationships are looked at as we see in 'standard' jobs (as some are), then they may have had a zero tolerance on people dating one another. Again, limited information is causing people to freak out and assume it's because of an age difference between two guys.

I don't know all the details here, nor the people involved. I find the age difference to be questionable, and in general, I'd find it inappropriate. But, I don't judge them based on what I do know. What I don't understand, so many people call foul because there's a 10+ age gap between those involved. There's also a lot of missing information regarding the relationship, and yet people are missing the root issue here. Not one person bought up the fact of actual players of the same game are in a romantic relationship; but instead so many people are going off about the age difference, especially when one is mid 20's and the other is still teen.

Where's the parents? Why date someone that young? Why date someone who competes in the same game as you? What makes this person a dating candidate over someone else?
