I think it's a thing that they have access to, but like violence, the impetus is probably more of a psychological thing of being pre-disposed to such things. They aren't problem gamblers because of loot boxes, they are using loot boxes to fulfill the need to satiate the desire.

Granted, when it comes to kids, you don't give them access to things which can be problematic.
