Alan Wake publishing rights reverted to Remedy

From GameWatcher: "Alan Wake has long been in an odd sort of publishing limbo, where Remedy wished to make new games, but simply couldn't, due to various legalese that is as arcane as it is dense. Now, though, the company has regained full publishing rights!

At the moment of writing, Alan Wake publishing rights have reverted to Remedy in relation to their 2.5 million euro royalty gain in the form of a one-time income. Does this mean there are more Alan Wake games coming in the future? We don't know, but we are excited."

Hell yes! Now lets get Alan Wake 2 after Control!

sushimama2174d ago

You know what would be funny? If the rumors were true and Sony aquired Remedy and they released Alan Wake 2 as a PS5 exclusive. I've seen so many Xbox fans ask for Alan Wake 2 and it always falls on deaf ears.

DarkOcelet2174d ago

I would rather just Alan wake 2 comes to all platforms plus Alan wake 1 and American Nightmare making their way to the ps4 and the next-gen consoles. Not every game has to be exclusive and sadly exclusivity didn't help Remedy with their sales i just want them to make their games available to as many people as they can so they can keep making awesome games.

VenomUK2174d ago

Alan Wake PS4 Ultimate Edition with all the dlc, I'm up for that.

Donnie812174d ago

Sony is to poor to acquire a headache remedy much less the studio. Out of the big three there’s only one buying studios right now and it sure isn’t Sony

Ju2174d ago

"Sony is to poor"...of course it is.../s

MasterCornholio2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

@Donnie

Sony is currently looking to aquire new studios. And as for Microsoft they haven't been aquiring really large and expensive studios so I can see Sony doing the same quite easily.

"President and CEO Jim Ryan stated Sony’s strategy to acquire first-party studios for more exclusives. Knowing Sony, we could be looking at potential studios that are considered to be the best in the business."

https://www.player.one/sony...

KyRo2174d ago

Donnie, there was a article just this week saying how Sony want to buy timed exclusives ready for the PS5 so I'm not really sure where you've got the impression that Sony is to poor. This isn't the same Sony it was 10 years ago which was in a ropey financial situation.

majiebeast2174d ago

Microsoft only buys bargain bin studios that can churn out mediocre trash for gamepass.

MasterCornholio2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

@Donnie

Oooo look what just got submitted.

https://n4g.com/news/227603...

:)

AmUnRa2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

No, not gonna happen, the game ( franchise probably) is now full in the hands of Remedy so the realese of next game will be multiplatform. However, a release of the first Alan Wake on the PS4 is possible😉

Hyperstrada2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

They gave out the Alan Wake games free when I bought QB. I didn't like them much. I stopped playing not far into the game. I am not sure why so many Xbox fans ask for Alan Wake 2. QB was ok Control looks ok.

agnosticgamer2174d ago

@Sushimama
Where are the rumors Sony will buy Remedy link, please? Whether Sony acquires or Remedy simply makes the sequel on their own I would love that. And Sony looking into acquisitions doesn't mean they are buying Remedy.

Babadook72174d ago

"Tragic irony" you mean.

x_xavier_x2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

@sushimama

Why would that be funny? Explain to me the basis for finding humor in your scenario.

Silly gameAr2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

That would actually be kind of missed up.

@donnie81
A company with billions is too poor? Where do they make guys like you at? Made me feel like this was the ps3 and xbox360 gen again, where Sony was supposedly going to go belly up.

hiawa232174d ago

Put the games on all platforms. Better for all gamers and the industry, imo.

DJStotty2173d ago

@majiebeast

So the developers of Hellblade - senuas sacrifice (Ninja Theory) is a trash developer now?

Game was amazing. bought it at launch and been waiting for a sequel. If it comes to ps4 you should buy it, and hopefully now a sequel will be made

DarkOcelet2173d ago

I already have it both Alan wake and American nightmare on both Xbox and PC and actually just replayed both games on Steam almost two weeks ago. And definitely agree that the game was amazing. Lets hope Mr.Scratch makes a comeback when Alan wake 2 happens.

GameStallion2174d ago (Edited 2174d ago )

Woot! Can’t wait, the story kind of left on a see what happens in Pt. 2 note.

BTW wondering who they got the rights back from though, just curious. Article doesn’t say unless I missed it.

DarkOcelet2173d ago

Microsoft had the publishing rights for Alan wake. Hope that answers your question :)

zsquaresoff2174d ago

Maybe now they can release it for Ps4. Always wanted to play this game but didn't want to buy an Xbox for it.

coretone2174d ago

It's also for the Windows PC, If that helps at all.

Livingthedream2174d ago

Lol, sorry just all the PS FANBOYS always say they don't need an Xbox cuz the games are on PC as well.

badz1492173d ago

@Livingthedream

what's so funny about it? it's the truth. I've never own any xbox in my life but I have both Alan Wake games on PC. not my cup of tea but I just got them for cheap before it was pulled out from Steam store back then.

it's Xbox fanboys that are feeling insecure about their purchase because non-xbox owners are getting all their "exclusive" games and not having to pay a dime for XBL Gold as MP is free on PC.

Brave_Losers_Unite2173d ago

@Living

Yeah that would be me. I still dont need an Xbone. You must have a rotting brain if you think this is made up lmao. Like for real? Im not spending $400 on something for no reason.

Imalwaysright2174d ago

It's a game that many PS fans would love.

aconnellan2174d ago

I hope it does come to the PS4, it’s a great game.

That said, I have a genuine question (unrelated). You said you wanted to play it, but didn’t want to buy an Xbox for it, which is fair - but isn’t that the kind of problem MS wants to solve by having their games launch on PC as well (and the xCloud when it’s out)? And yet people instead say “but now it doesn’t give people a reason to buy an Xbox”.

Isn’t making their exclusives more accessible to people who don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars for the console a good move for gamers? Or is there something that I’m missing?

Rude-ro2174d ago

The issue is the words “their” & “exclusives”..
Most are just paid for and or rented for an extended period of time.

Halo, forza, and NOW, gears of war(first ones were ea games paid to be exclusive)

The point is, they do not have the games at all.

The only valid conversation to this day for Microsoft is all about the 360 days and most those games were not Microsoft’s either.

OMGitzThatGuy2174d ago

I was under the impression that all PS4 gamers owned gaming PCs the way they try to justify themselves not buying an Xbox One

ILostMyMind2174d ago

You are missing PlayStation. If Microsoft wants to make their exclusive games more accessible, drop them on PlayStation.

UltraNova2173d ago

We should not use the term exclusive when it comes to MS anymore. IPs, that's the word.

To answer your question if they had desireable exclusives they would entice more people to buy their console. That would lead to a Gold sub, then to more games simply because no one would buy a console for one or two games they might like. That would lead to more more engagement thus more money for MS, but as long as those one or two MS games I might be interested in can be accessed elsewhere (with no subs required) I' wouldn't buy a MS Console.

DJStotty2173d ago

Exactly Microsoft releasing their games on other platforms, just creates another game sale for them.

And after all, the software is where the money is made not the hardware.

darthv722174d ago

I play it on 360, xbo and pc. It's worth a play. Get it on pc for cheap if you dont want to play on xb.

Ok now this is interesting, add the recent tweets from Shu Yoshida visitng Remedy and their developers visiting Naughty Dog and Insomniac and we should have a good dose of speculation on our sight.

MajorLazer2174d ago

Alan Wake is a truly fabulous game

Ju2174d ago

They should re-release it for PS4 and see what that does. I'd be curious.

Bronxs152174d ago

That’s a good idea. I think it would sell gangbusters in PS4 and cement an assertion out there that PS4 is a platform full of gamers that just want great games and great games sell well there.

No one buying PS4 for 4K graphics and UHD playback like the one x. It’s the choice console of people they love great games and variety from persona to Spider-Man.

gam3r_4_lif32174d ago

@bronxs15 gamers that only play games if its on their preferred device sounds more like fanboys. A gamer would have found a way to play the amazing AW by now.

rainslacker2174d ago

@Gamer

Not everyone is going to buy every console just to play every game out there. One console is actually enough for any one person, because there is more than just exclusives to play. Some people go the extra mile, like many of us, but the vast majority do not.

So, it's not a matter that they are choosing to not play it because it's on another console, it's because they choose not to buy another console which can play games which aren't on their preferred console.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8423d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto423d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia424d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger423d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie423d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

423d ago
Profchaos423d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie423d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh423d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

A thermos is upending the Alan Wake community

Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
