Super Mario Maker 2 only lets you upload 32 levels

Nintendo Everything: “Super Mario Maker 2 appears to have a hard limit in the number of courses players can upload. Once you’ve shared 32 levels online, that’s it. It seems there is no way to increase that at this time. In the original Super Mario Maker, 100 was the maximum.”

Of course Nintendo always has to find a way to create mishaps with their games that feature heavy online centric features

GottaBjimmyb1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

Makes sense, they don't have unlimited storage, and people who have high ratings or community downloads I am sure will be offered more space. Not that unbelievable.

It also incentivizes people who are content creators to really make sure their levels are good, which I see as only a plus TBH.

You would prefer to go through 7000 crap levels to find one good one? Or have a more curated/limited marketplace where the levels are more likely to be thoughtfully done? It was the pitfall of the first game, though a better curation by Nintendo would be the correct best answer.

rainslacker1772d ago

Less is more huh?

LBP had tons of great levels, and community ratings being the only deciding factor? I played some great LBP levels which had maybe one or two ratings. Then you have those that go around being a**hats and downrating, which can make great levels get lower ratings.

Oh, and then there are those that make good decent levels, maybe not great, but are really into it, and just want to share. Limit them so Nintendo can allow a subjective audience to decide what is suitable? That's just backwards, and even limiting them to 100 shouldn't be a thing. It's not like it costs them tons of money to host all these levels.

GottaBjimmyb1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

You literally just complained against your own argument. Not sure how you don't see that. Fewer levels = more ability for Nintendo to curate, incentivizes people to create better levels since they have less storage (though realistically effecting almost noone) and allowing Nintendo to reward creators who are doing good work with larger upload counts. As well as making user ratings and play counts to be the only measuring stick.

None of those things are solved by unlimited uploads. You are arguing for one things, but want the results of the other. Makes no sense.

32 uploaded levels will pretty much effect noone, but will make people FEEL like they have less room, and thus put more thought into what they upload, spin it however you want.

XabiDaChosenOne1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

@GottaBjimmyb the problem with your argument is that it only works THEORATICALLY.

First off, how inept does Nintendo have to be to limit players to 32 levels in order for Nintendo to properly curate them? Maybe Nintendo should have put a 32 stage cap in SSB Ultimate to limit the amount of sexually explicit stages that were being created.

Secondly, a 32 level limit only hampers creators that actually make good levels. To assume that Nintendo will give these guys an increased cap is wishful thinking since than the discussion of "why is my 60 dollars less valuable than his" arises.

GottaBjimmyb1772d ago

"how inept does Nintendo have to be to limit players to 32 levels in order for Nintendo to properly curate them?"

Right, with 4 millions copies sold (for the first, probably more on switch) 100 levels is potentially 400mil let's say only 1% of players create 100 levels, that 1% alone is 4 million levels. But sure, it is ineptitude, not volume that is the limiting factor.... not even worth arguing with you, you clearly have made your mind up on being upset no matter how unreasonable.

Of course you always get Nintendo haters whining over nothing. Only 32 levels? I can't even make 1

badz1491773d ago

and of course the "oh-so-credible" big site reviews like IGN don't cover this point and reward the game 9.5/10 anyway.

Sirk7x1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

Does that limit have anything to do with how good the game is though? I do admit, it could be a downside to some of the most prolific creators, but there is still the choice of keeping levels on local storage and choosing which 32 you'd like to have uploaded at any time. Those people with the most popular creations are most likely going to be active in the community, on discord servers and forums where this can all be discussed and potentially voted on. I do hope they expand it in the future, but that limit isn't really incredibly small, nor does it really take away from one's ability to enjoy the game.
But yeah, IGN does have far too many reviewers to create consistent reviews of games. That is true.

Lighter91773d ago

And? I don't really care. Making a good level is pretty impossible for me. And it seems I'm not the only one. I'm glad it's not LBP difficult to make a good level anyways.

rainslacker1772d ago

But, being able to play other people's levels is good right? So, the good creators have to limit what content they can make, which you can play?

badz1491773d ago

actually went to the source site of this article and Nintensheep over there are actually defending this and even praising it as a "great move".

King_Noctis1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

Why isn’t it a good move? Instead of having thousands of useless level, people are now most likely to create better levels as the upload slot is much less than before.

What is the problem you are seeing?

rainslacker1772d ago

Instead of having thousands of great levels from good creators, you have 1/3 the potential levels from those creators.

Goes both ways.

King_Noctis1772d ago (Edited 1772d ago )

How many creators would spend time to create and upload 100 good levels? How many people would spend time to create useless level and upload them just for the sake of it?

I’m not saying limiting the upload slot is fine, I’m just saying this way it helps iron out most of the useless levels that alot of people won’t play.

Also, maybe you are forgetting that originally, SMM1 only allow players to upload 10 levels. The only reason they can upload more is due to the Star system. The more star they get, the more level they can upload. So who to say that this system won’t be implemented here as well in the future?

Ricegum1771d ago

Trust King Noctis to defend this. Dear oh dear.

Deathdeliverer1773d ago

I guess they want to limit the trash levels and had to hit the good creators as collateral damage. Makes you upload only your best stuff and not EVERYTHING. I can understand both sides of this argument.

The 10th Rider1773d ago

In the last game they had a system where you started at 10 and could earn the ability to upload up to 100 courses. It's possible they'll expand and allow top creators to upload more.

However that system was kinda broken because a lot of the "top" courses were clever gimmicks and didn't feature much in the way of level design.
