One Exchange in Final Fantasy VII Remake That Shows Just How Bad the Dialogue Can Get

They really need to tone down the swearing in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Snookies122171d ago (Edited 2171d ago )

The original had quite a lot of swearing. They were censored, but there regardless. It's nothing new, and I'm glad they're keeping it that way. Besides, they're just prepping us for Cid's entrance. The man needs his tea after all.

naruga2171d ago (Edited 2171d ago )

to be honest i like a toned down swearing BUT NOT censored when it is needed (aka nervous characters ike Cid or Barrett or explicit like Corneo s probably dialogue).......for example in Cid s occasion must leave it intact , but having continuously Barrett swearing with no reason degrades the aesthetic of the game and the specific character ..one same (and bad )example was that abysmal black character in Killzone 2 where i could literally smash my TV whenever he spoke

Here we go, the US 'gaming' websites with their agenda to attack games with content they don't like so that developers are forced to change it.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. I want the game and I don't want no cry-babies telling me what isn't allowed in the games I play.

@Mr Pumblechook

This comment is hilarious 😁

@Pumble, USGAMER... Not "US" gaming. There are many good ones, just most don't live on the 'left' side of the country.

Babadook72171d ago (Edited 2171d ago )

Here’s the quote that triggered US Gamer...

“"You really hear that?" Cloud coldy responds. "Damn straight I do." And here's the kicker: a deadpan, "Get help," which enrages Barrett. Cloud at the start of Final Fantasy 7 rightfully sucks as he always has; he strikes me as the sort of person who throws plastic into non-recycling trash cans and doesn't take global warming seriously”

Wut?

define quite a lot? I am replaying it on Switch and I think I have seen Barrett make a few gestures that could be interpreted as swearing, but no other character to this point has said anything like that.

rainslacker2171d ago

I wasn't aware that swearing was a problem nowadays. I know people love finding a reason to shame others for accepting such things, but this is a stretch. There's more dialogue in this game, but most of what we saw was in game during battles. Given Barrets personality, there was nothing out of character, nor was there anything that offended me, because everything he said is in the common English vernacuar which you can hear daily, whether one likes it or not.

Pozzle2171d ago

There was lots of swearing in the original game too, but it was censored for laughs. But it makes sense that AVALANCHE doesn't have the cleanest language, because they are terrorists who are very passionate about their cause. Barrett gets emotional about the planet being destroyed. He's a passionate guy!

As for the complaint about the corny language...I can live with that! FFVII always had some pretty screwball dialogue and jokes. How is Cloud telling Barrett to "get help" for hearing the planet's cries any worse than Cloud saying Barret looks like a "bear wrapped in a marshmallow"?

MeteorPanda2171d ago

The crowd cheered at "lets mosey"" ffs. We accept ff7 for all its flaws lol

Pozzle2171d ago

Haha exactly! There's lots of great, cheesy dialogue in FFVII. It's part of the game's charm! I'd hate for the remake to take itself too seriously when the original game had so much comedy and weird moments.

robtion2171d ago

They should just include an option in settings to beep the swearing, for those who want it. Sunset Overdrive did it and it can be pretty funny.

I personally couldn't care less about swearing but I have young children so it makes it easier to play with them around if there is a no swearing option.

AK912171d ago

The swearing is fine quit your whining

Obelisk922171d ago

It's not even that much swearing. This wasn't supposed to fit 3 years old.

Snookies122171d ago

If you're an adult, I'm pretty sure you can handle a few swear words.

FalconofLucis982171d ago

The swearing just makes me love the game even more

Yeah. That’s the first I’ve seen it anywhere near #1.

Mario 64 is great but I wouldn’t put it over Mario World.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list is a crime.

CUnit12312377d ago

Sorry lol. I wrote the article but 5 of us voted for many different games and majority went on the list then we worked on the list. If it were just my personal top favorite we'd seen some xenoblade and star ocean as well as some others. Thanks for checking out it!

Chrono Trigger at 31 makes my heart hurt.

Not having any Xenoblade Chronicles games on the list at all is a crime.

The effort here is impressive. Hope it doesn’t get taken down.

fr0sty287d ago

He should have done it in Dreams though, the limitations of having done it in LBP are obvious.

solideagle287d ago

ah Dreams had so much potential, I think they should have released it on PC. one can only dream about dreams sale and popularity on PC. PC has modding/creative crowd and I think it would have been a hit

I love seeing projects like this. So much passion and time.
