Shenmue 3 gets another gameplay trailer, this time full of punching and kicking as our hero takes on a band on drunken thugs.

Coming to PS4 and Epic Games Store.

Most pc gamers assume steam represents PC gaming but it is only one of many distribution places.
PC gamers though were promised a "PC copy". that they can have.

Blizard, I backed them on Kickstarter. All the information through emails and whatnot said that Steam would be the platform it would be released on.

In the survey we had to take in order to choose between PC and PS4, it very clearly said Steam. Been very very clear for 4 years now.

The survey they issued from Fangamer explicitly gave the choice of either a PS4 copy or Steam code. I still have my confirmation email that shows this.

That pic you posted has nothing to do with where it will be distributed, that is about system specifications, you know, like RAM, CPU, GPU......

It actually says in that pic that Steam would be required to activate the game.

Backers have 100% proof. When they donated enough money, they were asked if they wanted a PS4 or Steam copy of the game. Ask anybody that donated enough money to choose and they will tell you the same thing.

Also, let's not forget that they actually created a store page on Steam with a release date.

Throwing around the word tribal doesn't make it more relevant. Steam is a far better platform for gaming, and even Epic knows that. They're throwing more money at exclusivity than building a platform people actually want to be on.

I think about it like Walmart. I hate Walmart, I hate department stores in general but I my least favorite is Walmart. It's not because I truly love Fred Meyer or Costco, it's because I hate the experience of Walmart. That's not tribalism, that's having different taste and standards (not necessarily higher standards either).

I don't see anyone saying Steam is perfect, most of the time it's the exact opposite. That just shows how lame the Epic store is, they could have launched with everything Steam users want Value to improve on and instead sunk a ton of cash into exclusives for a far worse store front that most people would just rather not use.

Ill even address your strawman, epic is working on customer reviews and all that other stuff valve built over the years AND they are giving publishers a bigger slice. Both stores have exclusives (most third party), so I dont even get the argument that epic is doing something so god awful, its a new store thats much better than steam was near its launch.

It is what it is now, and it launched 15 years after Steam into an established marketplace with experienced consumers. Some of those consumers may, in fact, use stronger language to express themselves than you would. That doesn't make them tribal or their criticism less acute.

Limited Run games is going to have a hard copy for PC through a collector's edition. So, you don't have to support the EGS. Only 5000 copies though.

Imagine being such a big fan of a series you desperately want to play it, but then being such a baby about it not being on the storefront of your choice you refuse to buy it.

The absolute ridiculousness, and sheer pettiness it requires not to download a free store (which WILL improve given how successful games have been on the platform, the planned roadmap, the continued exclusivity to the store, the better payout EGS offers etc and so on) is just silly childishness.

I'm impressed by how they maintain the style and look of the previous games.
But how will it stand in this era of gaming with world-class motion animation? If you compare this to the likes of Death stranding...Shenmue 3 looks quite dated.

How do they hold a monopoly? You have no clue what a monopoly means if you think that. Epic are the only ones trying to create a monopoly. They are the only ones stopping choice. Every third party game released on Steam has never been exclusive, devs are free to sell their game anywhere they like.

lets be honest the publisher/dev wants to hedge their bets on the reception of this game. Taking a cash offer makes them more secure than a couple thousand sales they miss also they don't have to give as big a cut to the storefront. Business wise this was a smart decision.

I feel bad for Shenmue fans because it's been a long wait even after having almost no hope for another game in the series.

I get why Sega didn't make another but why not just make another and not spend $900 gazillion on making it? Like, make another with an above-averge budget so it can turn a profit even with pretty mediocre sales numbers? That seems to make more sense to me than dropping a popular but not sales shattering franchise entirely. Companies make sequels to much worse games all the time.
