Observation is by no means a bad game if you’re interested in stories like 2001: A Space Odyssey and the like, there’s enough here that you’ll truly want to engage with it. It tells an interesting and winding narrative that during its course provides some excellent puzzles and moments of intrigue that pull you through its often messy and often unpolished design. However, it seems fitting that you play as a subordinate artificial consciousness in Observation as, at times, that’s who it feels like it’s been designed by. Unfortunately, Observation aims for the stars but falls short under the weight of its own ambition, which is a shame as there are some great moments.

Gareth writes: "This 6-to-8-hour game is a perfect indie title, especially when you take into account the low price compared to the amount of production that has gone into every molecule of it. The story is fantastic and works beautifully from beginning to end, and the concept and AI interface gameplay ensure that Observation on Xbox One is the most unique thing I've played for a long while."
