i prefer smart over agressive investments but hey...

fr0sty1959d ago

New IP is always a smart investment, especially for Square, who we know will milk each of its cows to the bone. They'll throw out a bunch of new IPs, see which ones stick, and we'll get 20 sequels and spinoffs within 5 years.

TheCaptainKuchiki1959d ago

Couldn't have said it better.

jbrock111959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

They have one of the best franchises in gaming history in Final Fantasy. I don't see why they just don't invest more in making great games in that franchise again. Pay Sakaguchi whatever he wants to get him back on board and let him head up a team with Kitase, Nomura, Nojima and Uematsu and let them create a masterpiece.

Zeldafan641959d ago

If you want masterpieces go play the Xenoblade Chronicles games.

pietro12121959d ago

The first is great and X has a fantastic battle system. XBC2 on the other is alright it suffers from bad pacing and the game drags on way too much for no reason whatsoever.

TheCaptainKuchiki1959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

But something different from a FF-style RPG please.

meep3161959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

Instead of making the best game possible they are trying to cater to an audience who doesn’t like the genre... it might work a few times, but eventually they will kill the series.

nommers1959d ago

It’s been several games after FFX and FFIX (the supposed last traditional main ff games). The sales of the series are still doing just fine.

meep3161959d ago

With ix people are referring to the art style mostly. X still played like a console style rpg, 12 still did as well but with some influence from mmos. 13 was the first time they specifically tried targeting western audiences who don’t even like role playing games. 15 got to the point where most of the gameplay feels pointless, honestly I would have enjoyed the “game” more if it just played like an interactive novel since battles felt like a waste of my time.

pietro12121959d ago

Remember Sakaguchi left on principle. It would take a lot to get him back on board

rainslacker1959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

Some time ago, they said they were going to focus on Final Fantasy projects, because it's about all they were making a lot of money on. That whole time was a pretty dark period for them, and the franchise became stale pretty quick. Square is one of the few publishers out there who can still make meaningful new experiences, so I'd like to do that.

If they want to focus in on established franchises, I think they have a ton of great franchises to explore. I'd say Xenogears, but wouldn't want that without the original creator, and he's off with Nintendo, and the Xeno inspired stuff has several variations....all of which are good.

But Chrono Trigger would be good...or Earthbound.

pietro12121959d ago

Earthbound is a Nintendo franchise

rainslacker1958d ago

That's true. I don't know why I was thinking SE. Been a long day I guess. Would still like a sequel.:)

Nier Automata one of my favs this gen

Casepb1959d ago

Nier Automata was okay. Don't see why the story got so much love. But the combat was fun.

Teflon021959d ago

Because you clearly didn't get it or didn't play all 3 playthroughs to get the whole story. If you've only played 2B's initial story it's whatever story wise. But the ending and Big moment in the third that changes everything made the story too good. I was actually caught so off guard by it because it wasn't spoiled at all by Reviews and such by the time I got through it. Story was great. Not a masterpiece but it's great.

notachance1959d ago

it was unusual in that they separated story into 3 playthroughs not chapters, even though all 3 playthroughs are different

well if you played only the 2B ones the story was just okay I guess

Can't wait to hear how the corporate bootlickers defend this.

seanpitt231d 15h ago

This is the world we live in and people seem to think it's acceptable

Cacabunga1d 13h ago

550 probably consultants.
GTA6 is in tweak phase, no need for massive number of people for that.

PRIMORDUS1d 13h ago

Best way to get rid of people like this is to make them disappear, permanently.

purple10120h ago

Bury them deep, plant an endangered species of tree ontop- body can never be recovered 🧐

Don’t ask how I know this 😂

JackBNimble20h ago

So don't support take 2 by buying games... pretty easy to vote with your wallet.

Profchaos1d 19h ago

They also just held a leadership vote I don't think there was any changes

Software_Lover1d 18h ago

I really don't even think CEO's should get bonuses. If I were a CEO and I made millions, I would like to think I wouldn't. Or if I had to legally, I would maybe find a way to disperse among the lower tier employees. Take my bonus and turn it into stocks to disperse out to those employees evenly.

DarXyde1d 5h ago

That would be the way to do it. Imagine thinking a CEOs "leadership" is worth that much money while the talent makes the product.

Insanity.

FinalFantasyFanatic1d 2h ago

I remember when I started working, my department manager used to gift us stuff each year, one year I got a bottle of Scotch, another it was a small basket of treats... But that was also a lot less money than what we're talking about here.

It would be ideal if the CEO could gift a bonus to everyone under them.

thorstein20h ago

Monetary company bonuses (often referred to as Christmas bonuses) were astoundingly common.

The entire premise of Christmas Vacation was set around Clark's bonus.

MrDead1d 17h ago

CEO's work for shareholders and are shareholders they also rely on share price to receive their multimillion dollar paydays and they will happily fire thousands to protect shares. CEO's are there to extract the most value out of a company and give it to the wealthy few.

redknight801d 17h ago

That is so god damn fucked up!! Unfortunately...I know damn well I will be still buying their games but shit like this should seriously have some sort of repercussion of some sort. 550 people get their lives totally up-ended and the leadership get a bonus on top of an already high salary. 25M could set those 550 people up with an annual salary each of $45,000. Depending on where you live, that is a very livable salary even...

Wonder what happened to the leaked medieval game that they were working on ... hope that's still on going and gets released sometime after GTA VI

gold_drake4d ago

eh wat?

its been on "break" for 11 years now ha 5 came out literally 11 years ago

isarai4d ago

Seeing as how it's been like 12yrs between releases, i don't think taking even more time is a good decision for the series

TheNamelessOne4d ago

So GTA 7 in around 2045 or 2050 lol

Mr_cheese2d ago

So make one GTA every human generation instead of every other console generation?

Come on...
